HYALURONIC ACID, CLEANSING RECIPE
[YEA] 03/30/2008: Teri from Seneca Falls, New York writes: "I have been aging so fast in the last few years after a family tragedy. I have researched and researched ways to 'antiage' my face. I have found that Hyaluronic acid syrum is amazing! I just used it last night and this morning and when on, my skin looks so much better! Also a good pore cleansing recipe: 1 teaspoon unflavored gelatin 1 1/2 teaspoon organic milk Mix together and microwave 10 minutes. place a wet warm wash cloth over face to open pores. With a plastic spatula, apply this to nose area, chin and other areas (avoiding eye area) that pores are clogged. Wait 15 minutes and peel off, just like the biore strips. You will see the porcupines!"

HYALURONIC SUPPLEMENTS WITH VITAMIN C
[YEA] 12/28/2006: Katie from Edina, MN writes: "If you want to look younger in one short week, taking Hyaluronic supplements will guarantee results. My husband & I take 2 tablets, 50 mg each of Hyaluronic Acid twice a day. It must be taken with 2 tablets Vitamin C once a day for maximum results It is preferable to take Vitamin C ester. It is a highly absorbable form of Vitamin C. It is non-acidic and much easier on the stomach. We are in our late 40's and the results have been fantastic. Our skin is so soft and it shines. Age spots seem to disappear after a few weeks. Also, wrinkles (especially near the eye area) are diminished and lessen with each day you take it. We have had many compliments. Many thought we have had face lifts! We have not had any surgical or non-surgical procedures done. We started taking H/A for joint support. It lubricates joints, so you have the added benefit of decreasing joint discomfort. H/A has been used on the skin topically for years. It is in many skin creams. It helps hydrate the skin. Look for a brand that says it supports skin fitness. We use Source Naturals brand. It is a little spendy, but shop for deals online. Now you can hydrate your skin from the inside out. Try it, I think you will like the results."

[YEA] 02/04/2007: Ragweed from USA writes: "I mix 3% topical hydrogen peroxide with salt and a little bubble bath as a wetting agent and apply it to my skin. This has been incredible! With the added salt it is absorbed into the body, but does not burn the skin at all. It seems like the salt should make it burn more, but it helps the body absorb it and does not burn the skin. Even if it gets into a cut with the salt and wetting agent it does not hurt anywhere near as much as straight hydrogen peroxide. I first started using it to treat a facial condition, but I was so impressed with the results that I began using it on larger areas of my body. Now about once a month I mix about a half pint of this solution and sponge bath my entire body with it. I have been doing this for about two years with no adverse results, and my body seems to have a more youthful appearance. I believe it kills a wide range of organisms that reside within the body, yet does not harm the body's own cell tissue. I know it sounds wacky, but I believe that anyone who tries this treatment will be amazed by the results."

[YEA] 06/25/2008: Killer Bees from Brisbane, Australia writes: "The best thing for beautiful glowing skin is jojoba oil. I used to use coconut oil and that was fantastic for a while. But jojoba oil is finer and absorbs more readily into the skin. I've also been told about rosehip oil, but I haven't tried that yet. I might give it a go if I can find any.
As for the jojoba oil, it's made my skin smooth, wrinkle free and the rosacea around my nose and chin has disappeared. Plus if I get the odd pimple at "that time of the month", the jojoba oil gets rid of it within a couple of days without it becoming a horrible whitehead pustule. That is, if the pimples actually even show up at all!
I use it on my neck too. I'm 41 now and I definitely don't want the "turkey neck" look that so many women get at my age. It's working because I have no excess skin there at all - just smooth beautiful skin and people can't believe it when I tell them my age.
I also use sunscreen every day without fail over the top of the jojoba oil. Prevention is still better than cure after all. I bought mine from the health food store and it's cheaper and lasts longer than any commercially prepared product. Plus, it's all natural and that's the biggest drawcard for me. I'm not interested in putting chemicals on my face any more.
Jojoba oil is also really good for treating eczema and psoriasis. And it's a beautiful hand moisturiser as well. Absorbs immediately with no greasy after feel. Try it, you'll love it."

[YEA] 06/10/2009: Jonna from Los Angeles, California USA writes: "I've been going to one of the Korean spas in Koreatown once a week for the past month, mostly to dunk in the hot and cold baths that they have. One of the daily rituals that I noticed the elderly Korean women at the spa do is to to scrub their skin vigorously, every inch of it, with one of those cheap exfoliating gloves (sold in asian markets for $2). Their skin looks incredible, very youthful. I decided to try it at home and every day at the end of my shower I scrub away. Then I end with a one minute cold shower. It works, my skin is glowing! I don't do this on my face, I think the glove is too rough for that, but everywhere else on my body that I can reach.
I am very curious to know if, because of this daily ritual and staying out of the sun, Korean women don't get age spots. It would be very rude of me to siddle up to someone at the spa and inspect their forearms to check for age spots, lol, so I hope someone on Earth Clinic will be able to answer that!"

My daily regiment includes an eye cream, moisturizer with SPF and cleansing with a foaming cleanser. I use Aveeno products to moisturize and cleanse. I drink lots of water. [YEA] 05/25/2008: Carolita from New York, NY writes: "Why I look younger than my age: I don't drink, don't smoke, don't do drugs, never got married or had kids, only worked full time for a total of 5 years before going totally freelance in something I love: I look younger than I am because I didn't waste my life!"
06/14/2008: Kim from Red Deer, Canada replies: "I have had 3 kids and married, divorced too lol, everyone is different, I don't mean to be rude, but was reading your post and just in my personal opinion, you haven't lived till you have had kids, life wouldn't be much without mine and if I look older because of it, they are soooo worth it! Just my opinion anyway, I think you haven't lived life till you have had kids, not a waste of life for sure. Life honestly would be less fullfilling for me."
04/20/2009: Rebekah from Jax, FL replies: "In defense of the previous lady, how rude for someone to say another person hasn't lived until they have kids. That's great your life is enriched by children but you need to join the rest of us in the modern world. Women don't need to have kids to be happy and fullfilled. Traveling, pets, career, etc. are all things that deeply enrich my life. For now (and maybe forever) I don't want kids. Why? Because my life is perfection and everything I ever wanted in life, I have. You ARE being rude and judgemental. Shame on you."
04/20/2009: Linda from York County, Maine replies: "Rebekah, It seems that Kim made it clear that she was offering an opinion only, not trying to tell anyone how to live.
Modern world? It ain't so great - some of us long for a simpler time...kids or NO kids...do what makes you happy - sounds like you're a bit defensive for some reason?"
04/21/2009: Rebekah from Jax, FL replies: "I agree, I sounded defensive about someone giving their opinion...didn't mean to do that. My point was that each person should follow their own bliss and don't let anyone tell you what your bliss should be....only you know what you want for your life.Happiness = beautiful skin! (and coconut oil) :)"
[YEA] 05/31/2009: Dove from Ashland, Oregon replies: "People are truly stunned when they discover my age -- look at least 20 yrs younger than my age. I also have never married or had children, knew that wasn't my thing even as a kid. FOR ME, the thought of having children in my life is, at the very least, unnerving. I simply don't want that experience, I don't need to have a child to know that. Freedom is my primo passion, I love being FREE to come and go as I choose. FOR ME, having to care for children would feel like a prison. That doesn't mean I don't think children are sweet and all, I can enjoy that aspect of it via another's child...but it's a rare child that I feel a lot of joy being around. That's just me. I'm not "abnormal" because I don't want that experience. People are different, yay ;) Mothering just isn't part of my "purpose." I know that. We know what brings us joy, and that is key to our purpose.
And it is true that the marriage/children life is a more stressful life, and consequently a more aging one -- studies do show that single women who never have children live longer as well. There are also studies indicating that the happiest ppl are single women :) Interestingly enough, single men are the least happy. Marriage has historically not been a good deal for women... I'm very happy with my life choice to not have children, no worries here about any clock ticking ;) I love being free to follow my passions and joy as I choose -- no one to answer to.
Also, I must add to the person who said her life would not be that great without children, eesh, that sounds very sad. Because those children will not always be there to fulfill you. You should really try to see the amazing things this life has to offer you beyond motherhood. Love yourself, find your joy and peace -- just for you, and in doing so you'll teach your children how to have much more joyful lives, with or without children :)
Peace,
Dove"
09/21/2009: Kerry from Portland, Or replies: "WELL EXCUSE ME! I've earned every last one of these wrinkles and I'm proud of every last one of them too. In my honest opinion- accomplishment is the best feeling on earth. But how can you have that feeling until you've actually accomplished something: work, marriage, and/or kids all fall into that category; in fact, they ARE that category. If you don't have any of those, then what exactly have you really accomplished in life? Some little "freelance" article on how to defeat wrinkles by spending every minute consumed with yourself? More power to you. Excuse me while I go earn some more wrinkles with my "burdened" lifestyle. How selfless of me. Oh, and BTW- my life IS perfect. I have a full-time job which I love and a daughter I love even more. Geez, how terrible."

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 03/01/2008: Lawanda from Tampa, FL writes: "Younger Looking Skin - I use these products - Are They Safe to Use On My Face?
I wash my face with Lye Soap. Why? I saw a picture of my grandmother and her sisters as teenagers and none of them had acne, I asked her what they used she said "We were poor, all we had was lye soap mama made." Then I cut a lemon in half squeeze the juice in a wash rag and pat my entire face with it. I Let it soak in for maybe 1-2 mins. Then if I'm staying home cover my face in extra virgin olive oil, If I going out I pat light dabs of the oil on (so I just look dewy) My main concern is the Lye soap. I think in this regamin I cover cleaning, toneing and moister. I wanted to recomend it to a frind but I'm not sure if it is good advice?"

I like to do this right before I jump in the shower. If you do this enough It will be almostt like a mini chemical peel and you will keep regenerating new cells. Everywhere I go people think im 16 still they are so surprised when I tell them im 22! Also dont forget to use sunscreen daily! especially in the winter the suns rays can be stronger as they bounce off the snow. Eat healthy."

[YEA] 01/09/2009: Dianna from Austin, Tx writes: "i don't even EAT miracle whip. but there was some in our fridge. i read about the exfoliating properties of it and decided to try it... since i had tried everything else. well, i love it. i have dry aging skin with fine lines that gets too dried out by granular exfoliation (brown sugar or sea salt or even wash cloths and/or baking soda).
the miracle whip works like a chemical peel and you just rub off the top layer of your skin along with the miracle whip.
put about a tablespoon onto your face and neck in a very thin layer. wait 10 minutes and then start to rub your skin in circles. the dead skin rolls off into little balls along with the miracle whip. keep rubbing until all the 'shiny' places are rubbed off. for those whose skin can tolerate baking soda - you might try rubbing afterwards with a tiny bit of BS to finish the job. does mayonaise work? i don't know never tried it. but this works great and when i remember to do it several times a week my skin starts to remind me of my skin i had in my 20's. enough said. don't eat it - but it works great for this! and it is cheap and i guess sort of natural....
oh - i tried just using ACV and i guess MW works so well because of it's other ingredients... whatever, it works great! everyone notices how 'perfect' my skin is these days.

[YEA] 01/26/2009: Faith from North Richland Hills, TX USA writes: "After browsing your site, I began giving myself honey facials. I just slightly dampened my skin, patted on some honey, let it dry, and then rinsed it off. I noticed that the deep creases in my forehead temporarily plumped out. So I added a few more steps. After I rinse off the honey, I splash just a little ACV all over my face, and rinse that off. Then I put just a little jojoba oil on my facial skin and let it soak in.
I did this last night, and this afternoon at nearly 4 p.m., the deep creases in my forehead are still plumped out! It's like Botox without needles, and a lot less expensive. So now instead of spending a lot of money on various facial cleansers, toners, moisturizers, and various anti-aging unguents, it only costs a few dollars for the honey, ACV, and jojoba oil."

[YEA] 01/11/2009: Robin from Rocky Ridge, Ohio writes: "Taking one tablespoon of flax seed oil (an omega 3 essential oil, meaning we cannot create it within ourselves) internally twice a day, and/or using ground flax seeds in smoothies, hot cereals, on salads and veggies will moisturize your skin from the inside out. It will take several months of taking it internally on a consistent basis to see a difference in your skin because your body will address its nutritional needs before it will address the skin. Beauty starts on the inside.
Be sure to store either the oil or the seeds in the fridge or freezer to prevent them from going rancid, which this oil does easily. This is also a good preventative against breast cancer.
Also, flax seed oil is an excellent moisturizer and healing agent used topically on the skin. I am experimenting with this oil in making my own lotions and creams. I remember using Noxzema on my face as a teenager and the compliments I got after using it to clear up a few zits. One of the main natural ingredients in Noxzema is linseed oil, aka flax seed oil.
Something else you can do is make a cream using shea nut or cocoa butter instead of coconut oil. Coconut oil is recommended as a moisturizer for those with oily skin. You can take 1 cup of nut butter, melt and add 1/2 cup of another oil like apricot kernal, rosehip seed oil, flax seed oil or jojoba oil plus a teaspoon of vitamin E oil as a preservative. Simmer only or use a double boiler so you don't destroy the healing properties of the butters and oils, then pour into jars for use. This thins the butter and adds other oils for more skin nutrients. The key in applying any cream or lotion on the skin is to apply it to damp skin to seal in the moisture.
Another thing to do that's highly recommended is to a body scrub with an oil and either salt or sugar or both added. In a container, add about 1/2 of the salt or sugar and add enough oil to cover about 1/4 inch above the mixture. This exfoliates the dead skin off so the water from bathing and the oils or creams applied after have a chance to penetrate into the skin. A few drops of an essential oil like rose, lavender, frankincense, carrot seed, or jasmine for dry skin will scent the cream and add healing properties to it.
Make sure you are drinking plenty of pure clean water to flush the body and rehydrate. Not drinking enough will lead to dry skin.
One last suggestion. Do an internal cleanse like Dr.Natura's Colonix internal cleansing system. I was amazed at what this product did for me, and I have written about this on a thread for heavy metal cleansing. The benefits go way beyond cleansing heavy metals. Getting rid of the accumulated gunk on your insides helps you absorb nutrients needed for your health and beauty. There are many testimonies on their website about hair, skin and nail improvements from this cleanse among many other things.
I love the suggestion about the AC vinegar. I've been researching homemade skin, body and hair care recipes and I would like to try that out. My only problem is that I do not have a bathtub. Would slathering it on my body with a sponge in the shower have the same effect?
Blessings and good luck!"

[YEA] 12/20/2007: Nancy from Brunswick, GA writes: "Here is my "Fountain Of Youth" Formula:
Mix a 1/4 cup of Aloe Vera
Add a soft gel capsule Hyaluronic Acid
Add 1 CoQ-10 soft gel capsule
Add 2 Vitamin A soft gel capsule
Add 1 Vitamin E capsule (recently added)
MIX WELL!
Spend 1 hour at least applying this.
Apply in a circular motion pulling skin lightly away from deep wrinkles, so you can get this deep into the problem areas.
WARNING: Your skin will turn red almost immediately, and if you have problem acne you should test a small area first.
Make sure you apply this evenly to your face and neck (unless testing for reaction.)
When this starts to work you want all of the benefits so be sure that you get close to and under the ear, also close to the hairline.
Don't just slap this on your face and expect it to work, You have to spend a bit of time applying this.
Make sure to APPLY EVENLY TO WHOLE FACE AND NECK!
Can be Applied to lips and the back of neck.
Make sure you close your pores with a cold cloth lightly applied, don't rub. For best results apply warm cloth to face before applying to open pores.
Added Tip: Always apply a cold cloth to your face and neck after showering etc to close pores and lock in moisture.
I have noticed a "SIGNIFICANT" reduction of fine lines and deep wrinkles. I
have laugh lines and since using this I have noticed that when I smile now the line does not extend to half of my face, Smile is only around my mouth.
My skin has changed considerably to have such a dramatic occurrence.

03/21/2008: Nancy replies: "I bought a Liter of hyaluronic acid, Highest grade you can buy that will absorb into the skin. It cost $150. Should last a long time.As far as the beauty formula, That is a bit frustrating. 7 or 8 women from Earth clinic site have emailed me and have tried it.( I Think)No one has email me back with results. Maybe they are disappointed, I wish they'd tell me so.People complain about the time it takes to apply, Because I tell them to spend at least an hour on their face.Maybe I'm wrong but feel that it took a bit of time for a wrinkle to appear and if you don't work on it ,trying to reverse the affects,' then it's a waste of time.Personally,' I love the stuff, and couldn't imagine not having it as my beauty regime.I can't imagine why someone would not feel the same, as all the great ingredients in expensive beauty creams are in my cream.
I have literally spent hours, slathering this on my face and the wrinkles have diminished, not so course looking, not as deep and tighter skin. No more bags under my eyes. I thought these results were maybe my imagination, so I stopped using it for a week, then started doing it again.I get results instantly but some changes have taken awhile. I guess it is a bit like botox while its on the skin.I literally have no sagging skin on my neck when I turn my head!I used to pull the ear & cheek area back, which would smooth out the smile lines, although I still do this, I only do it to see how significant the changes are. I pull less skin in this area, I have not gained weight, actually I have lost a few pounds.Another change I have noticed is my whole body is softer, I use nothing, no creams or lotions on my body. This remedy has absorbed and hopefully I'll see some significant changes besides just the soft skin. I would love some feedback from others on this massage formula, please email me your results whether positive or negative. Thanks, Nancy"

[YEA] 10/29/2008: Grace from London, UK writes: "Oil dissolves oil has become a mantra to fans of the oil cleansing method or "OCM". For many people, the simplest way to clear up acne, blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, blemishes, rashes or outbreaks on your face is simple: Stop using soap and other caustic synthetic cleansers, scrubs and moisturizers, and turn instead to the most natural, time-honored facial trick of all: cleaning your skin with oils.
Almost every facial soap sold in drug stores contains synthetic chemicals and artificial ingredients, despite the number of brands that claim to be "organic" or "natural." These soaps can be toxic to your liver and other organs with long-term use - and, even in the short term, they can do real damage to your skin.
Harsh cleansers contribute to acne and outbreaks by adding potentially dangerous chemicals to your face and by cleaning away not only dirt and bacteria, but the oils that your skin needs. When skin's natural oils have been removed, the body's reaction is to compensate by producing more oil - causing oily patches and outbreaks and creating a vicious cycle of purchasing yet more products that work against your body's actual needs.
Escape the Vicious Cycle - and save money and your face by doing so
First, stop washing your face with soap. For some people, the switch to washing their face with water alone is enough to dramatically alter the appearance and health of their skin. We've been fed a beauty myth that we need to do dramatic upkeep on our face with expensive skin care products in order to keep skin healthy, and it simply isn't so.
For some, washing with only water is enough. For most people, however, the effects of years of stress and exposure make a natural skin treatment like oil cleansing indispensable.
What is the Oil Cleansing Method?
All that's required to try the oil cleansing method is the right oils, a soft washcloth, and hot running water.
1. Mix up a blend of extra virgin olive oil and castor oil - or any other natural, unprocessed oils that you prefer - see a partial list here.
2. Massage a small amount of the oils gently into your face. Spend a few minutes rubbing the oils into your cheeks, nose, forehead, neck, and chin, allowing the oils to penetrate into the skin and pull out wastes, bacteria, dead cells and other dirt.
3. Wring out a facecloth or washcloth in hot water, and drape it over your face to steam - it's just like giving yourself a mini facial!
4. After a minute or so, wipe away the oil, along with any dirt, using the washcloth. Your skin should feel clean, soft, and moist with just a little of the OCM oil remaining on your face. If skin feels dry and tight, you can moisturize it using just a touch of the olive oil/castor oil blend.
Personalizing the Oil Cleanse for your skin type
You may want to try combining olive oil and castor in a different ratio, or trying the oil cleanse with only one of the two, or different oils altogether, depending on your skin's need. Some people substitute jojoba for olive oil, or add essential oils to the oil mixture for the aroma and their skin-healing properties.
Castor oil is known to be an excellent skin cleansing agent, but it is too drying for some skin. Extra virgin olive oil is rich in antioxidants and is an excellent moisturizer. Olive oil renews the skin, but it can be too fatty for oily skin types. You can experiment by altering the ratios to suit your needs, based on these properties.
Adding Vitamin E to your olive oil will aid in preventing rancidity by acting as a preservative. Vitamin E is specifically beneficial for the skin, also. It is not itself aromatic, so add essential oils, in addition. Using pure vitamin E from capsules, squeeze the contents (clean hands!) of two 400 IU caps into 4 ounces of olive oil. (Convert proportionately if using different potency capsules.) Vitamin E in oil (bottled) form is normally in a carrier oil so is not 100% vitamin E, hence the reason for using the pure supplement (capsule) form.
I do this once or twice a week and I like the effects because it removes all those excess oils and dirts from my sunblock and lotion and it keeps my skin moisturized. And to top that, olive oil is staple and cheap. A bottle costs 100- 200 php and you can use this for 3-4 months. I use Extra virgin Olive oil (from my younger brother's pile of unused oils for cooking) and add up vitamin E (I extract it from the vit E capsules available on local drugstores)."
[NAY] 04/28/2009: Misha from Binghamton, New York replies: "I tried the oil cleansing method for about a month. It did not work for my skin, fairly balanced, normal skin with a slightly oily T-zone. I combined olive oil and castor oil (1/2 a drop of each), applied to my face, then steamed my face with a hot wash cloth for about 5-10 minutes. I then used the damp wash cloth to wipe away the excess oil. I did this process 1x per day at night and used olive oil soap in the morning. My skin absolutely glowed...for four days. AFTERWARDS, my skin broke out like never before! Hard cystic acne that hurt to the touch! Yikes!!! I actually contemplated going to the dermatologist it was so bad! I figured I was using the wrong combination of oils for my skin, so then I tried jojoba and castor oil for three weeks. This oil combination improved the condition of my skin, but not significantly.
I have since discontinued use of the oil cleansing method as I find it does not work for my skin. I have resumed my use of oil free cleansers and my skin is starting to clear up, however it still has quite a way to go before it returns to its "normal state"!
I still use jojoba oil as a light moisturizer for my face with good results."
[YEA] 09/28/2009: Azg from Toronto, On replies: "I have always had perfect skin... and then I had my baby who's now 2 years old...and suddenly I have skin like a teenager. This has been pretty rough for me, considering I am over 30 years old. I've always had great skin and suddenly having to deal with this has been difficult.
When I became pregnant I more or less swore off all the store bought skin care. Which is ironic because I am a cosmetician and make-up artist.
Oil Cleansing has been AMAZING for me...it took a little while to find the right combinations of oils for my skin. I have pretty normal skin that borders on slightly dehydrated. I'm a make-up artist, so I wear make-up almost every day. I'm not a fan of concealer/foundations so I rarely wear those but I ALWAYS wear at least mascara and blush. I hate having to use a make-up remover and then a face wash - I want it gone in one step. I've also always had black-heads on my nose. Tiny little black/brown/grey dots on the sides of my nose...driving me crazy.
So my mix (in a 3 oz bottle) is approx. 40% Castor Oil, 30% Olive Oil, 30% Coconut Oil, a few drops of Rose Hip Seed Oil, 3 or 4 drops of Lavender Essential Oil, and about 10 drops of Sage Essential Oil. I put about 3 pumps of this oil onto my dry face and massage for about 3-5 minutes. Then I soak a washcloth in hot hot water and squeeze out the excess. I bring it to my face and let the steam rise up out of the washcloth and as the washcloth cools I bring it closer to my face until I have it pressed against my face while still hot (but not too hot). I leave it there for about a minute then gently wipe the oil off. I repeat this process another 2 times until all traces of oil are removed from my face.
The week before my period I will add an extra couple of drops of either Sage Essential Oil into the mix in my hand or a couple of drops of Lemon Essential Oil for extra deep-cleaning.
After I pat my face dry I will use ACV as a toner. I moisturize with a mixture of about 60% Jojoba Oil, 39% Coconut Oil and 1% Sage Essential Oil. I use pure Olive Oil or Jojoba Oil around my eyes, and then seal that in with an organic home-made lip balm (you can use a store brought brand, just make sure it's all-natural/organic and free of mint).
People never believe that I am 30 years old, I am completely wrinkle free, have an even and bright complexion. I don't wear sunscreen (as I don't believe in those chemicals), except when I go to the beach, in which case I *may* wear an all-natural sunscreen that uses Physical Sunscreens (Zinc Oxide/Titanium Dioxide) and a wide-brimmed hat.
The break-outs I've been dealing with are clearing up, THANKS TO THIS WEBSITE. I have been doing the Turmeric Masks, drinking ACV as well as using it as an astringent twice a day, I just started incorporating Blackstrap Molasses into my routine as well (internally AND externally). I just started with Organic, High-Lignan Flax Seed Oil from the refridgerated section. I am drinking at least 8 cups of water a day (I have been for a while) and am a pretty healthy eater...most of my meals are cooked at home from scratch and we rarely eat junk (we follow the 80/20 rule - healthy at least 80% of the time).
Thank you Earth Clinic (and everyone who contributes) for teaching me how to holistically take better care of me and my skin!"
[NAY] 09/28/2009: Tee from Chicago, Il replies: "Well I wasn't so lucky with the oil cleansing method. I wanted to know is there any kind of tool or product that can just suck the junk from under my skin. I saw a pore cleanser advertised a few years ago any recommedations? The stuff is like stuck in my skin til i squeeze it out and it stinks bad. I also have patches of these tiny bumps they never seems to go away on there own. Is there a name for this condition or is it just acne?"
[NAY] 09/30/2009: Ratgirldjh from Austin, Texas, USA replies: "the oil cleansing method did did not work for me either. it ended up making my skin drier (i guess it really does remove oil) and also gave me cystic pimples too.
what helped me a lot - was to start using a tiny bit of baking soda and a wet face to exfoliate. then i use very diluted ACV afterwards to balance my skin back out.
after a few days of this my cystic pimples started clearing up. some are taking longer.
i think that why the oil cleansing method doesn't work for everyone is that you are actually massaging the oil into the pores and some pores are too small for it to come back out very well...
even with the steaming hot washcloth i still has this problem :(
i thought about steaming my face to try and get rid of the cystic pimples and it did help when i did it with water alone or a little ACV over a pot and then used a washcloth on my skin - or did the baking soda afterwards..."
10/06/2009: Twitch from Nw, Ohio replies: "For those of you that have experienced acne breakouts from the oil cleansing method, this is really a detoxing period or reaction brought on by doing the OCM. What is happening is the oils are pulling toxins and debris out of the layers of the skin. If you keep it up it will eventually subside because it will have pulled all the gunk out over time. Also, to the one who used soap in the morning and OCM in the evening...using the soap is just defeating the purpose of doing OCM. What I do is do the OCM in the evening which also helps remove any makeup that was worn, then I just use a warm wet washcloth in the morning. Overnight there hasn't been much to contaminate my skin to warrant using much else on my face and it doesn't strip the skin of its natural oils."
[YEA] 10/12/2009: Saysouda from Nashville, Tn replies: "For a few months now I have been using this method and it has really worked for me. My skin is softer, smoother, and is clearer. I have always have problem skin and now at 36 yrs old I feel like I have found something that really works for me and is less expansive.
In the morning, I clean my face with witchhazel using cotton ball; then use warm damp cloth over face and neck. Sometimes I use BORAX when my skin feels oily, just sprinkle a little and add water to make paste, then rub on face and splash it off with warm water. The borax paste also works like an exfoliant.
At night, I rub VCO on face and neck. Wipe off with tissue, then use warm/damp cloth.
After cleaning, I moisturize with jojoba oil both day and night. In the daytime, I add sunscreen to my routine.
Recently I have tried the mask using honey and milk (a recipe I found here on EC) and I love the way the mask makes my skin feels. Soft and the lines are less noticeable.
I used VCO as a moisturize and found it was not hydrating enough for my skin. But I love it a cleanser. I even take 1 TBSP VCO internally every day and I feel like I have more energy and my skin feels clearer also. Oh, one more thing, yes, I did break out during the first week of trying this method. I think it was due to the impurities coming out of my skin.Good luck and hang in there if you do break out some. Your skin is just detoxing itself."

Also, the lines that run from my nose to my mouth have also diminshed and my dark circles have reduced significantly. I use extra vergin olive oil. At first, my breath stank but I stuck with it and my breath is now fresh and my teeth are strong. My cracked heels are gone and my BP has also dropped and has remained steady. Only question? Can I do this during pregnancy????"

Then I read Ted's opinion on which oils work best, one of them being refined sunflower oil. I switched to sunflower oil and the results were unfavorable, my skin did not glow at all, as a matter of fact it looked quite dull. I stopped used sunflower oil and switched back to unrefined sesame oil. And my skin is glowing once more. I have been acne free since oil pulling and I've been sleeping soundingly too. I have recommended oil pulling to my sister who's had a loose tooth and the oil pulling has since reinforced her loose molar."

[YEA] 06/28/2007: Tumi from GC, Botswana writes: "Oil Pulling and ACV tonic: I just wanted to say thanks so much for your website. I started oil pulling a month ago after much trepidation. I suffered from chronic insomnia and just feeling lethargic most of the time. I had initially started the apple cider vinegar and had started sleeping really well from the get go. I have always had sensitive and really weak teeth and about 3 months ago had had a root filling and crown on a tooth on my left side and was due to fix the opposite one on my right side, so you can imagine my surprise after a couple of weeks when I noticed that I was actually chewing food on my right side the whole time I was eating lunch! No tingling feeling and just an overall healthy feel in my mouth. Although I have had a good skin, I get compliments everyday about the glow my skin has. SO what can I say.....I don't think I will ever stop my regimen as the rewards are getting greater by the day. I have even ventured in including Apple cider in a mask mixture I make. Basically mix:
half of ripe avocado,
tablespoon of honey,
heaped tablespoon of oat bran
tablespoon of ACV
Mix well, and take a dollop of the mix, rub over face, neck (avoid sensitive eye area) for about 10 min. This leaves my skin feeling tingly fresh as well as so soft and moisturized. N.B While face is still damp apply moisturizer (coconut oil, or a mixture of coconut oil and aqueous cream). This is essential as it forms a barrier and helps trap the moisture in your skin. I believe you should see favourable results after a week. I use the mask only at night through and about twice a week. Enjoy! I put any leftover mask mixture in a tight container and place in fridge, but for no more that a couple of days. It usually keeps. Funny enough I also started oil pulling at night before going to bed, and then brushing. This morning I woke up as I had just brushed my teeth!"
