APPLE CIDER VINEGAR, TEA TREE OIL

[YEA] 10/17/2008: Mia from Chicago, IL, USA writes: "I've had rather intense dandruff for the last year, especially when it starts to get cold and dry outside. Fancy anti-dandruff shampoos, super mosturizing conditioners, cold water showers, even some crazy stinging stuff my dermatologist recommended didn't work. Sure, it might slow it for a week, but then my scalp would get used to it and go right back to it's naughty ways. Tried the ACV last night (50% AVC, 50% water with some tea tree oil in a spray bottle), left it on for about 10 minutes and then showered, and guess what? I didn't scratch my head at all that night, and woke up with no dandruff!! Ok, well, I saw ONE flake, but it was all alone, rather than the usual accompaniment of hundreds of friends. Best of all, it didn't smell as bad as people say after putting the tea tree oil in it.
Cost: $1 for ACV, $1.29 for spray bottle and $7.59 for tea tree oil. Altogether less than that nasty smelling tar shampoo. Yeah! Thank you!"

[YEA] 01/20/2008: Kathy from Mt Carmel, IL writes: "This white stuff isn't snow, so to rid it get Baby shampoo as its less harsh on the hair, shampoo twice then rinse and rinse again with Vinegar ..this will help the dandruff leave. My other remedy for this is to buy the Shaklee hair shampoos and use them instead of the ones with chemicals in them. Most likely folks don't realize chemicals can cause this problem..and nobody wants to tell you this"

BORAX, HYDROGEN PEROXIDE

[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 10/12/2007: Julie from New York, NY writes: "I have been struggling with seborrheic dermatitis on my face for 5 years. I have tried everything - drastic diet changes, candida elimination, probiotics, apple cider vinegar, topical steroids, msm sulfur, betaine hydrochloride, pancreatic enzymes, vitamin C, oil of oregano, flax oil, etc etc etc. A year and a half ago, I also developed perioral dermatitis and ocular rosacea. I read about borax and I decided to give it a try, taking 1/8 a tablespoon of borax in a liter of water for 3 days straight. After the third day, things were definitely changing but not noticeably better. I then decided to try to use borax topically. I combined a 1/2 tablespoon of borax with some hydrogen peroxide mixed with 50% water and I put it on my face then rinsed it off after about 30 seconds. It worked! My face feels as smooth as it did when I was a child, and my ocular rosacea is gone too. I didn't even remember what it was like to have normal feeling skin on my face with no rough patches, flaking, or redness. And I can't believe my eyes are back to their normal shape! I am so relieved. I feel and look like myself again for the first time in years. It seems miraculous. I am so so so grateful. What an excellent site. I suppose my problem was demodex skin mites, and the borax/hydrogen peroxide combo has eliminated them. I hope my experience will help someone else.
THANK YOU"
Replies[WORKED TEMPORARILY] 10/12/2007: Julie from New York, NY replies: "I left feedback for borax saying that it worked for my rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis. It worked initially but it came back today. So I detract my initial claims in the feedback I left yesterday. Thanks."
10/14/2007: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Borax was not taken internally later on of 1/8 teaspoon in one liter of drinking water and only the borax and peroxide was applied externally. That's probably why it didn't work. Of course, getting the pH to 7 is still important. Dietary sugars and acid forming food is what is causing the seborrheic dermatitis."
12/16/2010: Billy72 from Devon, Uk replies: "Hi, I just wondered Ted - are you saying to apply the borax/peroxide externally and drink internally in order to clear it long term?"
12/17/2010: Self from Ny replies: "Hey there Bill,
That's what Ted is saying, oral and topical borax-H2O2 are two popular remedies he suggests for various skin disorders like this (often caused by mites). Oral Borax & H2O2: 1/8 teaspoon borax and half cap (or 30 drops) of 3% H2O2 in one liter of water (drink this throughout the day). When it's done, drink plain water. Topical Borax-H2O2: Add enough 1 to 1. 5% H2O2 to borax to make a paste and apply it to the problem area. Repeat as needed. Borax can cause skin to get dry, so make sure to stay hydrated and use a good moisturizer (e.g. Jojoba oil) on dry skin."
01/08/2011: Billy72 from Devon, Uk replies: "Hi, I can't find 1% hydrogen peroxide to apply topically to my face, only 3%, Is this okay? and can someone please explain to me very clearly how I make a mixture to apply to my face, how many times a day and for how long? I'm finding all the descriptions of topical amounts very confusing. Thanks"
01/09/2011: Oxygen Therapy from Miami, Florida, Usa replies: "Billy72, a 1% solution for your face is sufficient. Simply purchase the regular 3% from your grocer and mix it with 2 parts purified water. Splash on at will. "
01/09/2011: Billy72 from Devon, Uk replies: "Thanks for that, and if I want to mix it with the borax do I just add the borax to that solution until it's a paste? how may times a day would I do that for? Thanks"
01/09/2011: Christal from Kyle, Tx replies: "I found that mixing one half teaspoon Borax with two tablespoons of Hydrogen peroxide worked great for me! You want the borax to dissolve completely and you may have to add a half a teaspoon hydrogen peroxide until it disolves completely."
01/10/2011: Billy72 from Devon, Uk replies: "Was that 3% hydrogen peroxide?! With no water? I want to get it right as I've just had a terrible experience with iodine and my face looks worse then ever! How often did you apply it? Thanks"

CANDIDA CLEANSE
Ratings:
|
[YEA] 01/22/2006: Shari from Tampa, FL writes: "It's great that these treatments are working for most of you. However, like most medical doctors, you are treating the symptom and not the underlying cause. Dandruff (dermatitis, etc) is usually caused by yeast overgrowth in our bodies. Try doing a candida cleanse. Not only will your dandruff dissapear, but a lot of other symptoms you may or may not be aware or suffering with."
Replies01/22/2006: Ted from Bangkok,Thailand replies: "Sorry, this is only one of the many causes. One cause may be fungus in your blood, which is a candida issue. The other is called a skin fungus, however there is no candida present. The third I found when doing microscopes samples of people's scalp is a parasites I have seen quite often, but candida is not present. The fourth cause I found to be a nitric oxide deficiency caused about by a nutritional deficiency. The fifth cause has to do with a circulatory issue caused by the pH acid/base imbalance which caused constriction of vessels which leads to a seborrheic skin which bought about a dandruff condition. The sixth cause is a hormonal imbalance issue bought about by several factors. Trying to cover all the causes in practice is not a practical one, so we narrow the most likely cases for a treatment. However, if you already know the causes than the treatment would be a relatively straightforward one. Suppose you do have a candida problem which bought about fungus which caused a dandruff issue. then a possible treatment is to take antifungal drugs such as Nystatin. There in practice, the most common cause of severe dandruff based on extensive surveys is a skin fungus and parasites issue and this could in most cases be easily remedied with the use of lavender/tea tree/ apple cider. Candida which caused the dandruff does exist but it is not as widespread as people with a skin condition due to external fungus, parasites and nutritional issues. If you do have candida issue, then the treatment would be relatively straightforward to do anti-candida therapy. Unfortunately not everyone has candida."

CAPRYLIC ACID, PROBIOTICS, AVOID MILK

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 11/10/2010: Deirdre from Atlanta, Ga writes: "It only took me about 20 years to make the discovery, thanks to effective muscle testing at a local herb store here in Atlanta, but seborrheic dermatitis on the face can be managed by 3 things:
1. Taking Caprylic acid supplements (used to fight candida and fungal infections)
2. Taking a potent probiotic strain (mine contains l. acidophilus, l. rhamnosus, l. casei and b. longum)
3. Avoiding milk as much as possible
This is not a cure, but taking the above 2 supplements will make the rash disappear. 1-2 weeks to see results. It you have seb derm on the scalp, these 3 suggestions also may work for you too. Please let me know if it helps anyone! "

COCONUT OIL

[YEA] 03/04/2009: Ed from London, Hornsey writes: "At 24 I had my first experience of seborrheic dermatitis, and had it for about 2 years. I can honestly remember one girl commenting 'it looks like his nose is turning green', to be honest I couldn't care less what she said, but there were times when i felt so low I didn't want to leave the house. I might have been exaggerating, but my nose was going from small red marks, to be inflamed burn marks, to a yellow gewy substance which would eventually harden.
I tried so many things. At first the steroid cream I used did the job in the short term. But it was no long term cure I was comfortable with. If I stopped using it it was back in a week. Maybe less. So I stopped using that pretty early. I also used aveeno yeast cream, aloe vera (from a bottle and from a plant), going on a yeast free and sugar free diet (to be honest this lasted about a month and a half, and don't think I went completely all out. But tried to cut the main stuff out), and garlic- none of these things worked.
Funnily enough, when I went to the states, it practically seemed to go on its own.
Then I decided to use coconut oil. externally (100% coconut oil- the brand is pukka). I applied it about once every day, not very much was needed as it is a very oily product. Actually I started by using this and taking it internally, eating crushed coconut from a jar with a spoon. but now I just apply it externally. I've been doing this for about 4 to 5 months now, and it is already feeling like a miracle cure, so I hope it carries on like this! I only had one major flare up since, whereas before I was getting one every other week. I hope I'm not speaking to soon, but it's really helped my confidence, and probably changed my life for the better. And something so simple! Just gotta thank the people on this website (and this website for this).
Of course a downside could be seen as it coming back if I stop using it. But who knows, it might even go for good!"

I had water at the bottom and a cream on top. No oil. I ended up cooking it which gave me that thick sweet compound and the oil. I need someone to help me make the oil . COLD LASER THERAPY

[YEA] 07/02/2006: Hillary from Salt Lake City writes: "I have extreme seborhic dermatitis on both my scalp and eye lids. I went to a naturopathic chiropracter who practes applied kinesology and cold laser therapy. The best dermatologist and doctors in the Salt Lake Valley kept prescribing sterorids, and medicine and nothing worked. I finally went to a doctor who did cold laser therapy on my eye and scalp three times a week for six weeks and it is completly gone, and hasn't come back as of yet, and it has been over six months, I call him my miracle doctor. If you want more info on this type of doctor they use all natual cures, no prescriptions etc. check them out online."
Replies06/28/2009: Lauren from Asheville and Boca Raton, North Carolina and Flori replies: "Hey Hillary, I also have seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp and I have it on my eyebrows as well, I was wanting to try this cold laser therapy, I had a few questions though. At the chiropractic that you went to, had he done this before for conditions like yours? I'm afraid of getting it done at a chiropractic office if they only have experience on using it for muscle issues. Also how is your condition now, did it come back? Have you had to do maintenence therapy? I'm amazed that nothing came back even after 6 months, that is enough for me, but just curious what has happend now."

I didn't believe her so i tried everything -- a pokeroot concoction to meds. I did not like the meds I was on, so I soon found out that SD was caused by a fungus infection so I found a shampoo that had not long chemical names and put half a 4 oz bottle of dmso in it. Within a week it was gone and has been for almost 5 months. dmso will pull anything into your skin so no long named chemicals."

EVENING PRIMROSE OIL

[YEA] 10/21/2009: In from Miami, Fl writes: "Evening Primrose Oil cured Seborreich Dermatitis
I suffered Seborreich Dermatitis on my scalp for the last 7 months and I thought I had to live with this disease for the rest of my life. I had huge, itchy, tight scales on my scalp and I was loosing my hair... I went to 3 different dermatologist and they just prescribed me shampoos and lotions. Completely unsuccessful. Then I decided to have a holistic approach to fight this. First, I read that most of the times SD it's cause due to a "leaky gut", which means the gut is so toxic, that leak the toxins to the bloodstream causing skin problem. So, I decided to have a colon cleanse (2 days) and I stop eating dairies, wheat, coffee, sugars and meats. I did this for one week. At the same time I was taking Evening Primrose oil in caps (1,000 mg), one at breakfast, another at dinner. Almost intermediately my scalp stop itching. That was the first sign I was in the path to recovery. I continued washing my hair with special shampoos, but this time the scales were very soft and were loosing without hair attached. Today I'm cured. Free of this disease. I'm also taking a cocktail of necessary supplements to keep myself healthy (Oil, fish, B-Complex, Multivitamin, Probiotics, and of course, Evening Primrose Oil). Make sure your supplements are high quality and the oils, cold pressed. Hope this helps."

GRAPEFRUIT SEED EXTRACT

[YEA] 12/01/2009: Bogeygolfer from Cincinnati, Ohio writes: "I have suffered from seborrheic dermatitis or rosacea (doctors couldn't decide). I never did take any prescription drugs for this, I try and "heal thy self" and have heard horror stories of steroids, etc. I tried changing soap, changing diet thinking it was a food allergy with no relief. So I started tracing the issue. This started a year ago after a bad sinus infection. I was out on antibiotics for 10 days. As soon as I came off the ATB, the skin issue started. Not sure of the relation to the ATB. I had redness and extreme dryness on bridge of nose, creases on nose and a spot on my eyebrow. Many lotions just made it worse, no matter how "pure" they were. So I found this site. I have read many, many posts regarding my condition and tried many remedies that worked for others. But I found information that seemed to trace this down to the trigger and find a remedy that works. ACV topically was very very aggravating, it made the redness and soreness BAD for days and dryed the skin a ton more than it already was. Honey didn't do anything, even unpasturized. I tried Z cure mentioned on here and it did help redness but still left the skin very dry. Washing my face with dandruff shampoo that contains zinc helped about 70%. I tried supplements and 50mg of zinc and 400mg of magnesium did help a great deal and I still take them along with B, D, C vitamins. But the thing that was the treasure find for me was posts that mentioned fluoride and Grapefruit Seed Extract. I was drinking a TON of water (tap) thinking that water is good for the skin. It's loaded with fluoride. I ALSO was on anti-depressants for years which contains fluorine. I switched to bottled water that doesn't have fluoride (there are only two brands that can claim this - filters do nothing). I also weaned off the anti-depressants and detoxed myself. But the real cure for me was the grapefruit seed extract. I mixed 10 drops with 1 tbsp of water and applied it with a cotton ball, left it on and let air dry and WOW! it is gone. I mean it was gone hours after the first application. Redness, dryness, flaking - GONE! So I am not sure which one did it (GSE or no fluoride or both) but I am continuing this path. I have been doing this for one month now. I apply GSE mixture once a day after showering. I use pure shea butter or pure castor oil as a nighttime moisturizer and I am symptom-free. My skin is back to normal 100%. Thanks to this site and the person who posted about Fluoride and the person who posted in great detail about GSE. I still drink 1 tbsp of ACV with 8oz of juice each day along with a kefir probiotic drink before bed just as an added benefit. I had h1n1 back in October and I truly feel this got me through it to boost immunity along with keeping my lungs strong with exercise. It's bad stuff, even with my so-called "mild" case. Thanks Earth Clinic!"

[BETTER BUT NOT CURED] 09/14/2008: DL from Atl, GA writes: "I've had seborrheic dermatitis around my nose for at least 10 years now. Humidity helps a lot in the summer - my nose merely looks red around the edges, but in the winter it peels and flakes non stop. Milk and chocolate always inflame the condition. After doing a fair amount of research, and having no luck with topical prescription drugs or home remedies, I decided I needed to try and internal approach to the problem. One of the articles I came across said that a certain type of yeast contributes to Seb Derm. Putting two and two together (the foods that inflame it and the fact that it never goes away with any topical application for very long) I decided I needed to treat this condition like candida and get rid of the yeast. So I started on grapefruit seed extract about 5 days ago. I did 10 drops in water the first day (-- uggh! Not recommended. Use juice). The next morning I woke up with headache. I figured the headache was a good sign, a yeast die-off, and continued my grapefruit seed extract - 2 more dosages at 15 drops each dose. The next day I awoke to find that my headache was exactly the same as the day before. . Day 3, headache was gone and my seb derm had improved by about 50%.
I am continuing to use the gse 3x a day -- and will continue to for at least another month or more. I am trying to cut back on sugar and dairy to help the gse do its thing."
Replies[YEA] 09/24/2008: DL from Atl, Ga replies: "Update to my first post about using grapefruit seed extract for dermatitis around my nose... After the 5th day of taking drops of GSE internally and it getting 50% better, but not more than that, I decided to start applying GSE to directly to the dermatitis. I put a drop of GSE on my palm and then touched the drop with my index finger and rubbed it in thoroughly to the dermatis, which wrapped around the underside of my nose and partially up the sides. Instant warming sensation. I kept the GSE on as long as possible, which frankly wasn't very long: 5-10 minutes max. I did this application once a day. It's intense, I must warn you. After a few minutes the dermatitis started to itch and burn. Quite torturous. When I couldn't take it any more I rinsed the GSE off with warm water and finished with cold water. I then applied pure shea butter. The itch then continues for about 20 minutes. It's now day 5 (and I kept the GSE on for an hour, no problem) and my dermatitis is gone around my nose. The redness has slowly receded and this morning when I woke up the area was almost completely healed... the constant redness is gone! You'd think with a remedy so powerful that it would make the skin look worse, but it fact the opposite has occured. It gets red right after application, then heals over night.
Finally! After 10 years of non-stop, itchy, red, flaking skin!! I also know from experience that I will need to continue this remedy for at least another few weeks or it may come back. But hopefully I can eliminate it permanantly. I am thinking now that this condition may very well be caused by mites. So doing a yeast cleanse is important, but you also need to kill the mites on the skin with something powerful. I recommend that people try using grapefruit seed extract for scalp infections, seb derm, mite infestations. It might also work for rosacea, eczema and psoriasis.
Finally, I want to thank Marea soooo much for her thorough posting about Grapefruit Seed Extract on the melasma page. That's what got me to try the remedy out in the first place. Yea, Marea!"
11/23/2008: DL from Atl, Ga replies: "Update to my post about GSE and seb derm around nose. The external application of grapefruit seed extract WORKED! It's been 2 months now and I have no peeling and flaking. Occasionally I will have one postule appear halfway down my smile line after I eat chocolate ice cream or a piece of chocolate, but other than that, nothing. The bump disappears within 12 hours. I kept up the topical treatment every day for about a week, then once every 3-4 days for another week, then stopped altogether. Haven't applied it since then. Yahoo and Yea!"

[YEA] 04/03/2008: Melissa from Alexandria, Virginia writes: "I have finally cured my dandruff. A very simple technique. Here's how.
1) buy a nasal spray bottle from CVS or any drugstore, target, etc.
2) empty bottle of saline whatever is in it by squeezing out the spray
3) purchase GSE - Grapeseed Extract.
4) mix in a cup 1 cup of water and 10-15 drops of GSE - mix it really well with a spoon. Now put the nasal spray bottle into the cup and squeeze the air out so the bottle will suck up the new formula you have just mixed. Every once in a while lift the bottle and let it suck some air so it will keep pulling the mix into the empty bottle. Keep suctioning it in until the nasal bottle is full of the GSE/water mixture. This doesn't take long at all.
5) Every other day 30-45 minutes before you take a shower, mix the GSE and water and use the nasal bottle, squeezing and going all over, soaking the scalp with the solution. This is a great way to get it on the scalp go back and forth til your entire scalp is wet.
6) use a natural Jojoba shampoo after 30 to 45 minutes. Do this every other day for a 2 weeks and your dandruff will be gone for ever. BE VIGILANT about changing your pillow case every single day!!!! Keep extra pillow cases right next to your bed!!
I would do this once a week for further prevention once the dandruff is gone and it will be gone after 2-3 weeks. GSE is one of the best anti-fungals available."
Replies03/13/2011: Vania from Clarksville, Tn, Usa replies: "This reply isn't really about the remedy, but about the method. If you're using the squeeze bottle that some saline nasal sprays come in, the nozzle tip usually pops out (although some appear to be molded as part of the bottle). Just try prying the nozzle up from the base with a box cutter, tiny screwdriver, or whatever works. Then your remedy will be available even quicker!"

HENNA

[YEA] 01/06/2012: Emily from Tampa, Florida writes: "I've had problems with dandruff, and an irritated, itchy scalp for years, especially since I've lived in a more humid climate (Florida). I recently tried apple cider vinegar and hydrogen peroxide, which helped a little, but not that much. I did notice recently, however, after coloring my hair with henna, my scalp felt much better, not itchy and irritated at all.
A little internet research suggested that henna is in fact a treatment for dandruff, lice, and other scalp issues. The only downside to this would be the fact that it's a dye of sorts, so you'd have to be willing to go with that. Worked great for my purposes, however, and I wasn't even anticipating it helping my scalp issues!"

HONEY, PEROXIDE, ZINC PYRITHIONE

[YEA] 03/04/2009: D from Lisbon, Iowa, USA writes: "If you have a diagnosis of SD you will know that there are many sites that say it is caused by Pitisporum Ovale, they are incorrect. SD is caused by Malassezia Globosa. My eight year old had it all over his face and it was spreading rapidly, the doctor gave us a prescription for Eldel, which has a black box warning and was $40+ even with insurance. It surpresses the immune system and I would not use it on my child who is a cancer survivor. My poor son could not tolerate any of the antifungals I put on his face, his skin was extremely sensitive and everything was painful. I finally hit upon non-pasturized honey, it works. Cleanse the area with hydrogen peroxide, put honey on all the areas. I put it on him right after school and then re-applied at bedtime. I also read a study that zinc pyrithione kills Malassezia Globosa, so I also purchased a 1% zinc pyrithione spray called "Z Care" by supplement spot.com on the net. It took forever for them to ship it, but it works. Once you know the exact cause, you have a better chance of fighting what ever it it is. My son could not tolerate head and shoulders on his face whatsover, but the "Z care" spray doesn't burn as long as you wait 10 min after you wash your face. Results with the honey alone were visibile in a day or two, but it is slow going until every little flaky area is gone. It took about 2 months to completely heal him. A note of caution, if the SD is all around the nose area, consider applying the honey and the zinc pyrithione carefully to the inner rims of of the nostrils. I just use a q-tip to appply anything to his face anyway. Don't spray the spray near your face, spray the Q-tip first. The SD was so bad that he also developed a secondary staph infection on the side of his mouth. The honey healed it, and knocked the infection right out. He has a small pink area of scar tissue, where the staph infection was, but I am hopeful this will fade with time.

Good Luck! "
Replies[YEA] 02/05/2012: R from La, Usa replies: "For years I tried everything to cure my scalp SD, including borax, ACV, oils. Nothing worked. Digging deeper as now it started to translate into the beginnings of hair loss, I found it had to be Malassezia and that the only promising treatment for that was zinc pyrothione. Bought some on ebay (hard to find, but I wanted the pure version, without alcohol), diluted it down to about 1%, and put it in my hair for a few minutes before rinsing. It actually works. When I comb my hear with my hands, I would always have strands of hair in them - 'normal', as the hair tends to grow back - but now, I can barely pull a single hair. It's pretty amazing. They tell you it's normal to shed hundreds of hair every day."

HONEY, ZINC PYRITHIONE

[YEA] 02/20/2009: Diane from Lisbon, IA writes: "Honey and Zinc Pyrithione worked for Seborrheic Dermatitis:
If your skin is very sensitive and burns when anything is applied to it, you may wish to try honey. Honey is antimicrobial and anti-fungal. You must use only the non-pasturized honey, not the honey you find in the grocery store. Topically applied honey will also kill a staph infection of the skin.
My 8 year old son had a very bad case of seborrheic dermatitis and a portion of the area became secondarily infected with staph. Very scary. His face was a mess, and it was spreading. His skin was super sensitive and everything I tried caused great burning and pain. The doctor offered nothing except an immunosurpressing cream that turned out to have a black box label on it,(deaths associated with it's use, Elidel). We finally started using unpasturized natural honey. No burning, no pain and not only the rash but the staph infection went away, and has never returned.
I cleansed the area with 3% Hydrogen peroxide, smeared honey on all the areas, and he would wear it to bed. Later I started using a zinc pyritione 1% spray (Z care by supplement spot)on his skin while he was in school. Both have worked beautifully, and believe me I tried everything."
01/10/2012: Diane from Ottumwa, Ia, Usa replies: "Skin Update. Fatty Acid Metabolism Disorder.Supplement with Borage, or Evening Promrose and Flax Seed Oil and Carnitine.
Totally Cured.
Sorry. Didn't know where to post this. Seemed simpler to update a previous post for seborrhea.
Symptoms: red, flaky skin, lifting off in very large flakes with white pustules like small cysts, forming rapidly under the skin. I did not have just the redness and broken veins that some people have. We need to be very specific about the symptoms here, since the symptoms can be easily mis-diagnosed.
It was diagnosed by my Dr. As "perioral dermatitis". Drs should be embarrassed to even say this to patients, I mean we all know we have a rash around our mouths, right? It was a mess, and I had it for approximately 8-9 months before I figured out what it was.
This is for people who have tried everything. Believe me. I tried everything listed on this website and more.
I treated it as: a pathogen (like a bacteria like strep or staph), a fungus, mites, (yes, I drank the damn borax), scabies, leishmania, malessezzia, (seborrhea), acne, I tried three different antibiotic gels from the Dr, (metrogel, ciclopirox, clyndamyacin). I would get excited, because some things seemed to work for a few days, then the condition always returned and got progressively worse. A fatty acid metabolism disorder will mimic the symptoms of Dermatitis with few other noticeable symptoms. My only clue came after I took a big dosage of Cod Liver Oil and I saw what looked like chicken skin under my eyes the next day. I knew something was really wrong.
Started Flax, and Borage Oil capsules the next day. Took L-Carnitine on an empty stomach, (just happened to have it, and knew it was good for fatty acid metabolism disorder from a study I saw on the web regarding Acidura and Carnitine). The Acidura, (a condition of acidity in the body) interferes with fatty acid metabolism processes in the body. This combined with a genetic predisposion called kryptopyluria and six cups of coffee a day meant I was not able to process fish oil of any type. This also explains why some of the other remedies like vinegar and baking soda, alkinalizing the body, and the liver cleanses, and the digestive enzymes seem to work for some people also. You will know within three days if this will work for you.
I saw healing within one day, the flakes stopped in three days and the redness went away in a week. My skin is perfectly clear and has been for two months. I still continue with the Carnitine, Flax and Borage only because I'm afraid to stop. Please note: I did topical applications of Sulfur, (sublimed pwder mixed into mayonese as a carrier) and bought MMS, (chlorine dioxide) just before trying the Flax, Carnitine and Borage. The sulfur may have lessened the white pustules, but I still had the red, flaky skin. If the pustules don't go away, you made want to try the sulfur or the MMS.
Best Wishes."

IODINE AND BORAX

[YEA] 08/28/2009: Leelannee from Sussex, Nj writes: "YEA for biotin (hair loss)
YEA for iodine & borax (dandruff)
After the birth of my son 15 years ago, I had more hair loss every time I brushed or washed my hair than I had ever had before. I always had long, almost waist-length, thick hair. After the birth, I became so distressed over the thinning, dryness, & split ends that I cut my hair to chin-length. I kept trying to grow it long but every few years "chopped" it again due to split ends. My hair is medium-coarse and never seemed thin to people who cut my hair but I could tell the difference.
About a year ago I started taking biotin. I take 5mg per day, and I get a bottle of 300 capsules (10 months' supply) for $12, so this is a very affordable, no fuss remedy! It took a month or two to notice a real difference, but my hair loss became minimal. My hair is now so thick, and has grown past my shoulder blades for the first time in 15 years! Also, there are very few split ends--even though this doesn't make much sense, as only the new growth would be affected by the biotin, but it's true (a few months ago I bought some very sharp scissors and trimmed my split ends, but they haven't come back). And my hair is growing a little faster; it used to grow no more than 1/2 inch per month (I color my hair 3-4 times per year, and occasionally measure) and now it is growing almost 1 inch per month.

Another hair problem I had for about 20 years was dandruff. This started when I was 16. I tried many, many supplements, diet changes and topical remedies over the years with no results (except for a liquid zinc treatment for excema--this helped but didn't cure). I eventually tried a dandruff shampoo, which would give me relief for no more than 24 hours. I really didn't want to do this, but if I didn't I would actually get scabs in addition to incessant itching & painful inflammation.
A few weeks ago I bought a "liquid kelp" iodine supplement, took a dropperful twice a day in water and within 48 HOURS I had ZERO FLAKES! This is after 20 years of discomfort, self-consciousness, and not being able to wear black or use nicer shampoos! I recently found another supplement that has 150mcg iodine per drop, and I take 2-3 drops per day.
About 2-3 weeks after starting the iodine, I had a VERY slight return of the dandruff. But now I am not using dandruff shampoo at all. I shampoo, douse my scalp with a borax solution (1-2 tablespoons in 2 cups of water), let that sit for a couple of minutes, then condition. My scalp is super clean, I can go several days without shampooing (when I had the dandruff I had to shampoo every other day), and my hair seems softer & less frizzy."

JOJOBA SHAMPOO AND TEA TREE OIL

[YEA] 01/02/2009: Thomas from Moses Lake, WA writes: "Bad Dandruff (SD?)
FOR THOSE WHO'VE TRIED NATURAL REMEDIES (ACV), SHAMPOOS, ETC., ALL TO NO AVAIL:
Go to your local Health Food Store, or online, and order an all-natural Jojoba Shampoo. What cured me was using this shampoo + tea tree oil. You will have to find out which way of doing it will work best for you. I have a shaved head so I just shampoo in the shower, rinse, and apply tea tree oil with Distilled water, on a cotton pad, onto my head afterwards (without washing it out; having a shaved head makes that easy for me to do). You may have to start with the tea tree oil, leave it in for an hour (or longer) and then wash with the Jojoba shampoo. You may also want to get Jojoba Conditioner."

KEFIR

[YEA] 04/01/2007: Jim from St. Louis, MO writes: "I have had a worsening case of suborrheic dermatitis for several years. It started around my upper lip and chin and ended up in my ears. Prescriptions mildly controlled it, but not well, are expensive, and frankly I don't trust them very much. I tried several reccomended natural and "home" remedies, none of which worked very well. And then I started drinking kefir, a cultured milk beverage. I started drinking it because it's really tasty and I can digest it (I'm lactose intolerant), but found that when I drink it regularly my suborrheic dermatitis goes away. When I don't drink kefir for several days it starts to come back. Typically I've found myself drinking a 32 oz. bottle every two to three days. I've tried a couple of brands, but the Helios brand seems far superior to the other brand I tried (which I had trouble digesting). So I really reccomend it. At the very least, you'll be drinking something that tastes great and is good for you (live foods rock). And if it works for your skin ailements too, all the better. Good luck!"
