Neuralgia treatment involves dietary supplements and supports that relieve nerve pain and inflammation. Treatment often involves identifying the underlying issue causing the pain. Nonetheless, various natural treatments are effective no matter the cause.
What is Neuralgia?
Neuralgia can be simply defined as nerve pain. This condition is often characterized by a stabbing, burning or other severe pain that runs the length of a damaged nerve. Neuralgia may occur at any part of the body; however, it is most common in the neck and face.
Neuralgia has a number of causes. Common causes include diabetes, shingles, pressure on the nerves, medicinal effects, infection and multiple sclerosis. Attacks of pain often begin gradually and become more progressive over time.
Natural Remedies for Nerve Pain
Treating nerve pain involves a variety of options including topical applications and daily supplements. Three of the most effective natural remedies include cayenne, apple cider vinegar and bull thistle. Supporting nerve function with regular exercise and movement is also important.
Cayenne stimulates circulation and blood flow in the body. As such, it can treat nerve pain associated with transmission of nerve signals. It also serves as a topical pain reliever as the capsaicin in cayenne delivers a consistent amount of heat to the site of pain.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar combats nerve pain in at least two ways. Apple cider vinegar alkalizes the body and removes toxins that may be contributing to pain. Additionally, apple cider vinegar delivers a variety of vitamins and minerals to the body to restore nutrient deficiencies that may be causing nerve pain and issues.
Bull thistle also stimulates circulation. Used as a poultice or cooked and eaten, bull thistle contains a variety of nutrients that are beneficial for treating nerve pain.
Neuralgia is a chronic pain condition that has a variety of causes. Nonetheless, natural remedies deliver healing and comfort easily and safely.

[YEA] 12/07/2007: Sandra from Guelph, Ontario, Canada: "ACV is a miracle, have stopped taking medication for nerve pain in legs, and for acid reflux. Arthritis is not a problem anymore, and have lost 25 lbs in 8 week. I feel 20 years younger, and will be on ACV for the rest of my life."
[YEA] 02/08/2007: Pierce from Dublin, Ireland: "My wife suffers from neuralgia every so often probably due to damage caused by Shingles 20 years ago. She started taking ACV last week after discovering your site. She is not cured but says that the symptoms appear to have magnified upon taking the ACV. Would be interested to hear if any other neuralgia sufferers have experienced similar effect and how things worked out. Is there any scientific research as to why ACV may be so beneficial? Regards Pierce"Replies
[NAY] 12/13/2009: Garzo3 from Victoria, B.c., Canada replies: "Apple cider in any food or product that I ingest causes my pain level to be three times worse! I have the same reaction from pepper. What is interesting that I have noted is that any antioxidant food or drug does the same. I eat mainly proteins and fats (olive oil, garlic, and onion)."
[YEA] 06/12/2010: 7zeropoints from Toledo, Oregon: "Wonderful Relief for Neuralgia (Nerve Pain).
Bull Thistle (Cirsium vulgare). I use the Bull Thistle and share the liquid with others.
For small quantity: Use the portion of the plant that grows above ground, take a stem of a large plant or the whole small plant.
Place a collapsible 'vegetable steamer' in the bottom of a 1-2 quart stainless steel pot or enameled pot to keep the plant from possible burning. Place the stem in a 1-2 quart stainless steel pot or enameled pot. Cut the Bull Thistle stem into small pieces. Cover the Bull Thistle with water that has been filtered or buy distilled water. Bring the water to where it just starts to boil then turn the heat down to warm, not simmer, and let it WARM for several hours. Don't get the liquid too hot as this kills the stuff that helps you find relief. I perform the above steps before I go to bed and leave the Bull Thistle on WARM all night.
In the morning I place a colander into a stainless steel or glass bowl and dump the pot of Bull thistle and water into this. (The cooked bull thistle plant can be saved for a poultice; be aware that the thorns are still capable of sticking you.) The Bull Thistle liquid can be used immediately as it cools in the bowl. You can add more water if you so choose. Pour the Bull Thistle liquid into clean bottles and place in a cool area or refrigerate.
I placed my hand that has carpal tunnel in the warm Bull Thistle liquid for less than a minute and I found extraordinary relief within an hour. This is great stuff."
09/28/2011: Donna from Susanville, California, Usa: "Two months ago I began having extremely strange symptoms in the clitoral area. Every day for the past 8 weeks I have had feelings of sensitivity, aching, pressure, stabbing pains, tingling, numbness and pinching in this area. Four weeks after these sympoms started, I developed several lesions or sores on the outer labia. My gynocologist took a culture of them and put me on Acyclover to treat herpes... Which I didn't know I had! Within 48 hours my symptoms lessened. I have almost completed the two week treatment and the sores have healed.
My doctor says that the other symptoms which I still have to a lesser degree are called "herpetic neuralgia" but didn't tell me if there was anything that could be done to help them go away. He wants me to stay on the Acyclovir for another 2-3 months. Is there anyone out there who has experienced the same thing and has some advice to help my body heal? I would really appreciate it, because this has literally turned my life upside-down!"Replies
09/29/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "The herpes virus along with many others has a protective coating that prevents the body from killing it. The natural remedy for this ailment is Coconut oil, as it strips the coating from the virus and allows the bodies own defensive mechanisms to engulf it. Taken internally and applied topicaly will fix it for good and all. Incidentaly it might be worth mentioning the clinical dose is about four teaspoons a day. It also causes ketones to be used by the brain without having a starvation diet to get them, which seems to help Parkinsons and Alzthiemers.. Sufferers. One doctor whose husband had early onset Alzhiemers.. reversed his condition, which is unheard of with conventional treatment."
10/21/2011: Sura78 from Florence, Al replies: "Does anyone know of the exact dosage on the Coconut Oil to deactivate viruses and in the treatment of early onset Alzheimer's? Thank you for your help!!"
10/21/2011: Bess from Calgary, Alberta, Canada replies: "Hi Sura78 - I've attached a link to a PDF article by Dr. Mary Newport. Her husband has Alzheimer's and she started to give him coconut oil and recorded his improvement.
Also, naturopath Bruce Fife wrote a number of books extolling the virtues of coconut oil. His latest is Stop Alzheimer's Now! Here is a blurb on it:
Read the customer reviews from amazon.com on the book and then see if it's in your library. It sounds like it might have answers to your questions.
Good luck Sura! Bess"
10/21/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "The theraputic dose for Coconut oil is five teaspoons a day.."
10/22/2011: Sura78 from Florence, Al replies: "Thank you Bess and Gavin for the very interesting and beneficial information. I truly appreciate it!!!"

03/18/2013: Jennifer from Houston, Tx replies: "Per a doctor who posted his results; Vit B12 shots: 1st shot got rid of 65% of my pain; 2nd shot got rid of 20% more pain; by the 3rd shot I was 95% pain free :)"
02/04/2008: A Friend : "Dear Ted, I have an unusual question. I have asked several doctors and they are just perplexed by the question. I have a lower back problem in disc 4 and 5 and every now and then it causes great pain which feel like bad leg camps. I gave up coffee and that helped, then tea, then decaf anything, and then my favorite food group "chocolate". I take no caffeine now and that has helped tremendously. But what is happening? Way is caffeine in even low content causing such severe nerve pain? It also keeps no awake for hours. I used to consume large amounts of all the above now I do not dare touch it or I go into a 9 or 10 pain index in my leg or legs. I sure miss chocolate, tea, and coffee. Do you have any understanding of this at all? What is happening? Thank you."
Ted from Bangkok, Thailand replies: "Dear Friend: This may not be unusual as to why coffee and chocolate can cause nerve pain. I have found very high heavy metals (lead, cadmium, iron, etc.) from processing which also include black tea, but may not be green tea. Black tea are kept before manufacture in aluminum containers and high in fluoride. However a green tea is still problematic with higher than average fluorine.
Therefore, magnesium supplements (magnesium gluoconate, or magnesium malate or magnesium citrate), vitamin B complex and chelation of heavy metals with chlorella/ spirulina every other day may help reduce the spinal pain. Magnesium works by protective effects against heavy metal, vitamin B helps rebuild the nerves generally, and heavy metals is removed with both chlorella and spirullina. Most processed foods tend to add more metals to our body during production process.
Other supplements protective of nerves are one tablespoons of granulated lecithin, by helping with myelin. Electrolyte imbalance can bought some problem and some sports drink once a week for example might help.
High halogens in the diet can also be neutralized with kelp supplements, as kelp is high in iodine or just iodine supplements. But it is the borax that drives out the fluorine.
One interesting L-carnosine 500 mg supplements seems to help detoxify free zinc and perhaps free copper which may might cause nerve damage.
Vitamin C and vitamin E are also protective against nerve damage too, but most help for me is the vitamin B complex and spirulina/chloroella.
The list here is incomplete, but they are some leads that you can look over.
