What Is Interstitial Lung Disease?
Interstitial lung disease is a term used to describe a group of disorders that cause advanced scarring of the lung tissue. The scarring typical of interstitial lung disease often becomes so progressive that it eventually affects an individual’s ability to breathe normally and integrate enough oxygen into the blood stream.
By the time actual symptoms of lung disease occur, irreparable lung damage has typically already occurred. Nonetheless, seeking medical attention at the onset of any noticeable breathing problems may prevent or mediate further damage. Common signs and symptoms of interstitial lung disease and breathing conditions in general include shortness of breath, aggravated or stressful breathing and dry cough. Additional symptoms of lung disease include a chronic cough, chronic mucus production, wheezing, coughing up blood and unexplained chest pain.
The cause of interstitial lung disease often appears to be an injury to the lungs that activates an irregular healing response. Interstitial lung disease generally causes an abnormal development of tissue around the air sacs, causing them to become scarred and thick and making it more difficult for oxygen to pass into the bloodstream. Several factors contribute to the development of interstitial lung disease. Airborne toxins in the workplace, drugs and some medical treatments are possible causes; however, the specific cause in most cases is unknown. Additional factors include long-term exposure to toxins and pollutants including silica dust, asbestos fibers, grain dust, bird and animal droppings, radiation and chemotherapy drugs. Some heart medication and antibiotics may also contribute to lung damage.
Natural Interstitial Lung Disease Remedies
While many cases of lung disease require medical attention, natural remedies are also an effective option. Hydrogen peroxide inhalation therapy as well as essential oils diffused into the air offer healing and treatment for lung disease. Additional lung disease treatments include beryllium, silica and serapeptase. Continue reading below for many more recommendations from Earth Clinic readers.

I found this website and I am interested in this Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide. Can you please give more info on how this works? Thank you."
09/11/2013: Mama To Many from Tennessee, Usa replies: "Dear Maria,
I would definitely try the hydrogen peroxide for the ILD. I am not sure if you are asking why it works or how to do it.... I would encourage you to keep reading posts on the how to part and hopefully someone else will share why it works. But, do try it. I have been meaning to post and share that I have recently started Hydrogen Peroxide inhalation therapy for my daughter who has asthma. It IS helping her. But I am trying something else with her that is helping also, maybe more. I wish I had known of these things a few years ago when my elderly father in law had ILD. At that time I felt so helpless and didn't know what to do, but now I am finding many things that help with lung problems and wish I had been able to help my father in law.
For my daugther, I am using a nebulizing diffuser (it was not cheap- maybe $70. But so worth it! It diffuses essential oils into the air so she can breath them. It diffuses without heat or water, so it is the pure oils. ) After weeks of being up with her several times a night (before the diffuser), she is finally sleeping all night and doing so well. We bought an essential oil blend that is called lung healing from heritage essential oils. We diffuse it 15 minutes out of every hour from 11pm to 7 am.
Keep reading earth clinic for other ideas on diet and such that may help your health.
And please keep us posted on what helps you. I was not able to find information on natural cures or helps for interstitial lung disease a few years ago. God bless you!

05/29/2014: Zubda from Uae replies: "Dear ~mama to many~
My mother was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) last year. Doctors started her on steroids but that didn't seem to work. Now she's taking homeopathic medicine only but that too is not very effective. Can you please share more information about the natural remedies or anything that may help her? Please."
05/29/2014: Mmsg from Somewhere, Europe replies: "Zubda, I'm not the famous Mama to Many here on EC, but just wanted to mention the cheapest remedy to try first: have her breathe VERY watered down Hydrogen Peroxide. The simplest way is to squirt a little into a humidifier or similar machine, near her bed."
05/29/2014: Mama to Many from Tennessee replies: "Dear Zubda,
I agree with Mmsg that hydrogen peroxide may be the best thing to try.
There is a lot on this site by Bill Munroe about hydrogen peroxide inhalation therapy.
If you would be able to get a nebulizer (the kind that people with asthma use) you can dilute hydrogen peroxide to a 1% solution and your mother can use that in the medicine cup of the nebulizer. She could use 2 or 3 ml of 1% hydrogen peroxide (you can get 3% hydrogen peroxide in the store and mix it 1 part peroxide with 2 parts water to get your 1% hydrogen peroxide solution.) She would then breathe with the nebulizer 3-4 times a day. The first time she should try it for just 15 seconds or so and then work up from there. My son used this and it made him cough a little bit but was so helpful for him.
If nebulizing the hydrogen peroxide does not suit your mother, consider nebulizing Colloidal Silver, the same way. 100ppm. Or you could try one of these one week and one the next and keep alternating. But don't mix the two. We have found nebulizing colloidal silver to be excellent for lung problems.
Comfrey and Mullein tea would also be excellent to try. Both are very good for the respiratory system. You can add peppermint for flavor. So, you would mix equal parts of comfrey, mullein and peppermint leaves and store it in a jar. Put 2 Tablespoons of the mix into another jar and pour 3 cups of boiling water over it and let it steep for 15 minutes. Strain out the leaves with a coffee filter. (Don't use a mesh strainer or you won't get all of the mullein hairs out and they can be irritating.) She should drink 3 cups a day. It can be sweetened with honey.
1, 000mg of vitamin C, three times a day would be good.
1 teaspoon of turmeric (or 4 capsules) would be another great supplement to take daily.
2 teaspoons of Raw Apple Cider Vinegar an 2 teaspoons of honey in a glass of water twice a day would also be very good.
I would only add one of these things every few days so you can monitor any reactions and make sure each one of these suits her. And I guess it will depend on what you can find where you live.
Dairy products, excepting perhaps kefir, can be hard on the lungs because they are mucous forming. It might be best to limit these if possible.
I am very hopeful that some of these things will be helpful to your mother.
Please let us know how it goes.

it causes the scar tissue in the lungs to thicken and become stiff, thus making it difficult for the patient to breathe. Serrcor NK works away the dead tissue and repairs.
the best you can take is Serracor Nk and serra R 3x (serapeptase )80,000 my girlfriend has ILD, she orders from BioMedic Lab. It is called the miracle drug, no side effects what so ever. She is able to breathe freely again. she shops and drives again.
there is also serapeptase by Good health naturally. But for a serious as ILD Serracor Nk is the best. My girlfriend takes 2 three times a day. serracor NK is wonderful.
I take serrapeptase for sinuses. My other friend takes it for CP (cerebral Palsy) he is able to function much better in life. It help in repairing the nerves that controls our body. I can go on and on."
