WARNINGS!

[YEA]  01/14/2010: Mbs560 from Redwood City, Ca writes: "I had just returned from a long journey to Thailand and of all the exotic foods I ate along the way it was the last meal on the flight home that did me in. Feeling extremely nauseous with pangs of cramping I thought I could make my way through the next day using the old stand by acidolphilus yogurt cure. Not feeling any better after spending half the day vacilating between nausea, hunger and pain I searched the internet for a home remedy. Having heard Apple Cider Vinegar was an age-old use for just about everything including stain removal, I hopped in my car (still in my PJ's) and took a dixie cup full of vinegar, mixed it with half a cup of berry juice and downed the vile tasting swill. Even though I felt like vomitting right there in the store, I agree with a previous reader who said he could literally feeling it working. It felt as though all the bad bacteria were being "sizzled" in acid. It took about 45 minutes or so...but the cramping went away and I started to feel less nauseous. Unbelievable!!"

[YEA]  09/30/2009: David from Little Rock, Ar writes: "ACV is amazing. I came home from work one day and ate a ham and turkey sandwich. About an hour later i started to get really sick. I had not had any type of food sickness before so I wasn't exactly sure what was going on with me. I developed a bad fever and was getty dizzy, not to mention the stomach cramps. I do not like throwing up so I tried to hold it off for as long as I could. It was coming whethere I liked it or not. I felt o.k. after the first throw up but still felt very weak and still had a fever. I went online to see about remedies for food sickness. This site was the first one to come up. I took 1 big gulp from ACV along with some orange juice( not sure if orange juice is the best to use). I still felt some of the pains from the illness, but i did not throw up one more time. I woke up this morning a totally different person. The stomach is a bit sore from the cramping but nothing i can complain about. The fever is gone also. Thanks to all the people who posted about their experiences, it helped out immensely."

[YEA]  08/11/2009: Kavi from El Dorado, Tunapuna, Trinidad writes: "Another confirmation of ACV for food poisoning. My mother rapidly started to come down with what seemed like food poisoning after eating some spoiled curry chicken. Since EarthClinic has been a reliable source of home cures, I checked it at once and then promptly gave her 2 tbsp. of ACV in a cup of store-bought juice. I also added the juice from half of a lime, since this helped me with stomach upset in the past. Within a few minutes of drinking it, she had stopped moaning in pain, and within 15 mins. was noticeably better. Now, half an hour later and she is practically back to normal.

I have had food poisoning a few times myself and know that it is terrible and often lasts for several gruelling hours. I am quite happy to spare my mom that experience.
Thank you EarthClinic and all the posters here!"

07/05/2009: Katherine from Seattle, WA writes: "Last night I started showing the signs of food poisoning (mild)- about 6 hours after eating I got cramps and nausea. I've had this happen before and it usually means I'm in for a long night of sitting in the bathroom where I can't quite throw up, even though I want to. Miserable.
I've come to this site before and found the apple cider vinegar cure for my sinus allergies (it works!), so I was happy to read that it can also help food poisoning. I drank 1 tbsp. ACV with a little bit of fruit punch (basic kind from Whole Foods). Then I just got in bed and waited it out. In about 5-10 I was feeling much better. Wow! I love it when something natural really does the trick. I also drank water before going to bed, to keep hydrated. Thanks everyone for the tip!"

[YEA]  06/12/2009: Sarah from Surfside Beach, SC writes: "Food Poisioning: I had gone out to eat with friends of mine for breakfast and I had crisy bacon, along with grits eggs and toast. I thought the bacon kinda had a little different taste, but just presumed it being a different brand. Came home and about three hours later, stomach was cramping, felt nauseaus and felt as thought I was going to get sick.

Checked the net and came to this site. Had a half gallon of ACV for the purpose of cooking. Took the 2 Tablespoons in 1/4 cup water and within 30 minutes, felt fine. Jumped on it fast.

Thank you, as I am forever getting food poisoning on seafood at the beach. Now I will know what to do rather than be sick all night. Usually it is always seafood.

Have been telling everyone I come in contact with at the beach, as this is a good place to get it with seafood."

[YEA]  04/29/2009: Drew from Gold Coast, Queensland Australia writes: "My friend called to say her sister was vomiting and may have food poisoning, she also said that ACV was a way to help fix it but it was late and the pharmacy was closed and she had no money, she was at the hospital, waiting to be seen by a doctor and I was dubious about ACV but I found your site and thought it must work so I raced down to the hospital and took her some ACV and she felt better within minutes of drinking 2 table spoons ACV diluted with cold water, it is best to get it into your stomach as fast as you can to prevent the bacteria from multiplying, that's what the acetic acid does. the bacterium produce poison that your body detects and forces out of your body by causing vomiting. thanks for confirming the value of traditional home remedies. I theorized that the acid was stopping bacteria from breeding which would help get rid of the bugs, I found a study that confirms that acetic acid retards the growth of some strains of bacteria but not all, here's the link:

I had just finished a dinner out of shrimp and mango curry, a dish I had eaten plenty of times in the past. fifteen minutes after finishing my meal. I had severe GI upset and I had intense abdominal pain. I had contacted my husband and instructed him to research food poisoning cures and ACV because I remember hearing about it. Sure enough, there was a lot of information claiming that ACV can cure food poisoning. Desperate, I had nothing to loose, I went down the street to a local health food store and took two tablespoons right there in the store within 10 minutes I started feeling better, I could breathe and the cramps had stopped. I can say that the ACV indeed stopped the attack."

Believe it or not that calmed my stomach down and took away my pain. So for those who can't drink the stuff just use it externally. It really works. Good luck."

[YEA]  09/08/2008: Rich R. from Pearl City, Hawaii writes: "last night around midnight, a few hours after dinner (we had shrimp, spicey ahi tuna wraps, ahi poke and seared ahi poke (the seared was leftovers from Friday) i woke up to severe cramps. what followed was a very long night of cramps and going to the toilet. i knew enough that everytime i went, to follow up with some water to keep hydrated. however it was still a very long night. then about 7 in the morning, it got worse, now i was sitting on the toilet and needing a place to throw up, well i leaned to the tub..wasn't a pretty picture.

anyway, i had to go to work, is the nature of my job unfortunatley. so i get there, still misrable. i then think, maybe i can find a cure. so then i found this site. i took the first dose about an hour ago. the frequency of the cramps died down, but i was still getting them. i also have went to the bathroom once since taking it. however i am feeling better, just very tired.

next time i will have this on hand as i think that if taken right away, you get better results.

aloha and mahalo for your posts!"

09/12/2008: Rich from Pearl City, Hawaii replies: "UPDATE: it is now Friday around noon and i am all better. the ACV didn't totaly get rid of the food poisoning, so it is not a "miricle cure". what it did do was make it bearable. it reduced the cramps in frequency, duration and intensity. The cramps lasted so many days, up till yesterday even (got sick 1:00am monday morning, still had cramps thursday morning) but each time they would get bad again, i just would take another shot of ACV. before i took it, i couldn't sleep. but then, take a shot and crapms would be reduced enough to sleep for awile. I strongly belive it helped ALOT and if i had taken when i first got the symptoms, it might have been a "miricle" cure.

mahalo again to everyione that posted."

[YEA]  06/12/2008: Frank from San Francisco, CA writes: "I got really bad food poisoning on a Friday evening, didn't sleep much that night with stomach cramps and felt bloated and as if I have a huge rock on my stomach. I could only sit or barely stand a couple hours after I ate the bad food. The pain and discomfort, which I won't go into details, lasted for about three days. I was exhausted and had little energy to get around. Just before I was about to call my Doctor to get antibiotics, I went online to read about food poisoning, came across this site remedies, read them, and decided to give ACV a try. I had nothing to lose and it is a very inexpensive trial. I took two gulps of the ACV. I know most of the testimonies suggest one tablespoon full, but I figure I was in a lot of pain, so went for it. The first gulp was like taking a shot of tequila; it burned some but it also felt good at the same time. Then waited a few seconds and took the second gulp; that one went smooth. I did feel the effect of the acid working its way into my stomach and intestines. I then had a different sensation in addition to my pain. Ten minutes later, I drank some water since I took more than recommended dose, and went about my routine. I can't figure out the exact time it took to stop all my pain, but I think it may have been about ten minutes or so total. The pain was gone. My intestines were a bit sore since I have been in pain for about three days. Next morning I woke up feeling well. I took two tablespoons full just to be sure I have killed the bacteria. I now feel very alert, with energy, so excited I discovered this website. I have been sharing my experience with everyone I know and care about. One more note, since ACV did the trick, I wonder what else I could use it for, so I decided to use it as a mouthwash after I brushed my teeth. It left my teeth and gums cleaned.

Thank you to whomever came up with this remedy. I am back to normal again."

[WARNING!]  06/12/2008: Jay from Altoona, Fla replies: "I would NOT use ACV as a mouth wash --it is an acid. I tried it in a waterpik and my gums started bleeding profusely. My dentist told me to stop as the avc would eat away the enamal rather quickly. Been there done that not a good idea."
07/02/2009: Mort from Dallas, TX replies: "If you've done much reading on the Net, you'll see where one's response to a question has, in reality, absolutely nothing to do with the question at hand. Most likely, due to the person not really reading the question, or if they did read the question, they did not fully understand the question. Such is this guys warning about Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) - Jay from Florida.

First, one should realize that vinegar is a mild acetic acid, about 5% concentration. That's why it tastes the way it does. Second, brushing your teeth daily with acetic acid is in no way analogous to taking a 1 or 2 gulps of ACV once in a "Blue Moon." Come on folks READ!! I "think" I had food poisoning, only symptons were the cramps and diarrhea. I took a spoonful, what the heck, most cole slaws are made with it, and those bbq sauces everyone loves sooo much, a dominant ingredient is, you guessed it, vinegar of one kind or another, so "no prob-lem-o." The only logical concern I have, after seeing the link to the article, and scanning it briefly, is if the ACV kills the "bad bacteria" from the food posioning, does it also kill the "good bacteria" in our gut. I do hope most of you realize that our bods consist of lots of good bacteria. Why do you think "yogurt came along, then "Activia," you got it - replenish the good bacteria in your bod!! Feeling a bit better in 10 minutes.

Now, did I really have food posioning? At "fried" KFC last night, with some sides, and today for lunch, some leftovers, which were kept in the refrigerator. I don't have a gallbladder, so was that the problem. Also this morn I was on the roof cleaning out gutters in 100+ heat in July in Dallas, TX. Did the sun do something too me? Or was it a combo of everthing....not a medical type, just a Ph.D. type.

Anyway, the point of this comment was unless you brush your teeth every day with acetic acid, I wouldn't worry about gulping down a spoonfull here and there. Jay is correct, acid is acid, 100% or 50% or 5%. It will eat away at "stuff" Being 2009, I'm sure all you folks have heard of acid rain, a weak sulfuric and nitric acids forms with water and sulfur and nitrogen which has increased in the atmosphere due to industralization. Those elements and water combine to form the acid rain - yep, that's why some of the older statues and buildings are dissolving, along with some vegetation!!"
[WARNING!]  02/25/2011: Bragging About Braggs from New York, Ny replies: "Uh... Anyone who takes ACV straight is asking for trouble. Always dilute in warm or lukewarm water. ALWAYS!"

The moment I had 1 cup of apple juice and 2 TBL spoons of ACV, i felt INSTANT relief. I was definitely not expecting it. My bf had food poisoning or some kind of stomach bug over the past day and I was scared I might get it too. [YEA]  05/13/2008: Jasmine from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada replies: "Food Poisoning: My wife Melissa had a severe case of food poisoning today and ACV fixed everything! When she woke up this morning she was feeling very queasy and had diarrhea right before she started throwing up. We had to be out the door early this morning - I was taking her to an office meeting while I went to the mall. She was so sick she couldn't even smoke a cigarette (she's a pack a day smoker), and she didn't want a coffee... or even water for that matter... We have about a 30 minute drive to her work and she never lets me drive but she was so sick she pulled over and threw up then told me to drive. In the hour and a half she was at work she threw up 4 more times. We headed home and we had to pull over twice because she couldn't even make the last few blocks to the house. We tried gravol earlier but she threw it up. I bought some chewable gravol (upon the advice of the pharmacist because she couldn't keep water down) and then she threw that up too. I put her to bed and went to the store for ACV after reading these reviews. I came home and she was throwing up and heaving again! About 30 seconds after she finished throwing up I made her take the ACV and the nausea INSTANTLY subsided. She then slept for 2 hours and when she got up to have a soak in the bath she said "I can't believe it! I don't know what's in that stuff but I feel 100% better!!!" (still a little sore, of course, from the retching). We'll keep ACV in the house from now on for emergencies like this and I think this will be our new sworn remedy for food poisoning!!"

The only time it's dangerous to stop vomiting is in cases where it's caused by alcohol or a chemical poisoning. However, with food poisoning due to a bacteria or virus, the infection has already been established and the immune system will just have to fight it off. Throwing up doesn't get rid of it, it's just a symptom due to irritation in the stomach. I hope your daughter is doing better!"

[YEA]  12/21/2007: Ana from Gainesville, FL writes: "About four months ago, my boyfriend and I used ACV to fight against a bug that had been going around. We had been looking at ACV as a possible addition to our diet because of all its reported benefits, so we had a bottle in the cabinet already and thought we might as well give it a try. My boyfriend got a sore throat first, so we both decided to' use ACV (diluted in hot water) to gargle and drinking a little bit (pure) for about three days straight. All of our friends went through weeks of a painful sore throat, coughing, and feeling terrible...but thanks to ACV, my boyfriend and I barely even felt sick for a day, and I have not had a cold since.

Also, one night I came home and I had a familiar feeling of feverishness, nauseousness and intestinal discomfort. I had felt the same way twice before when I had gotten the stomach flu, and I knew what was coming. I was shivering and miserable, but I felt like there was nothing that I could do to help myself and that I would just have to go through the hours and hours of sleeplessness, vomiting and exhaustion. My boyfriend went online and searched for a home cure for the stomach flu. ACV came up on Earthclinic, and I was willing to try it again because of how well it worked on my sore throat. I took two tablespoons directly. It wasn't hard at all, and I actually like the taste. Afterwards I experienced approximately 20 minutes of (very very mild) heartburn. About 10 minutes later, I started feeling better, and about 30-45 minutes later, I felt entirely fine. A little bit of the nauseousness returned the next night, but two more table spoons of ACV fixed that. A couple weeks later (I have bad luck) I got food poisoning from some korean food. Two tablespoons of ACV cured that too.

I'm convinced that ACV can cure a lot of things and really improve your health. I would drink it three times a day if I wasn't afraid of possible degenerative effects it might have on my teeth enamel."

On top of that, I'd let it sit out and all the chemicals had settled to the bottom. So I felt really weak the next day and had diarrhea and nausea the next day. I was completely miserable. Later that night, I felt like throwing up but couldn't. Finally I looked online for remedies and found this site. Luckily, we had apple cider vinegar and I'd taken it before for a bad cold and sore throat. I took it and immediately threw up. This may sound bad but I felt halfway back to normal and the nausea was gone. I took some more since I'd just thrown it up just five minutes ago. A tablespoon of ACV in a tall glass of water has helped us many times and usually very quickly. We try to take it the minute we get that feeling of sickness. Just sip it and take it easy until you start to feel better. I have had it work almost immediately -- sometimes it takes up to an hour. I wish I had known about ACV years ago, as I am prone to food poisoning."
