What is Diabetes?
Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic and life-long disease marked by high levels of sugar in the blood. Also called adult-onset diabetes, Type II diabetes is the most common form of this increasingly common health ailment, representing 90-95 percent of the better than 350 million worldwide cases of diabetes. The condition is characterized by high blood sugar levels (hyperglycemia) as a result of the body's resistance to insulin or inability of the pancreas to create that sugar metabolizing enzyme.
Symptoms of diabetes include persistent thirst, frequent urination, excessive hunger, sudden weight loss, fatigue, issues with vision, sores that heal slowly, and irritability. In the long term, the presence of excess glucose in the blood can create additional diabetes symptoms due to cumulative damage to your health including eye damage, kidney disorders, nerve damage including neuropathy, circulatory issues, gangrene, and heart disease.
The causes of diabetes are not perfectly clear, but certain risk factors can substantially increase your risk of developing pre-diabetes and eventually a diabetic condition. Obesity and carbohydrate-heavy diets are the clearest triggers for diabetes. Conversely, regular exercise can improve the body's sensitivity to insulin and lower your risk for diabetes. The condition does have a genetic link, is increasingly likely with age, and strikes races other than Asians and whites at greater rates.
Natural Treatment of Diabetes Type II
A proper diabetic diet and health supplements that help insulin do its work can reduce your risk for diabetes or reduce diabetic symptoms. For instance, apple cider vinegar slows the rate of absorption of glucose from your meals, moderating blood sugar levels (peanuts evidently have a similar effect).1 Supplemental magnesium, chromium, and alpha lipoic acid (ALA) have also been found to help regulate blood sugar levels. Additionally, some diabetics have found benefit in prickly pear cactus, cinnamon, and Asian bitter melon as companion foods that make up part of a low-glycemic diet or other diabetic diet to reduce diabetes symptoms.

[YEA] 08/08/2011: Cocoandrico from Kingston, Ny, Usa: "A number of promising studies have suggested that Aloe Vera gel may be useful in managing diabetes naturally. As a dietary supplement compounds in Aloe are thought to stimulate the production of insulin and enable the body to more process glucose more efficiently. One to three teaspoons of fresh Aloe gel may be taken daily to help regulate blood sugar levels. For more info check out: http://www.aloeplant.info/diabetes-and-aloe/"
Apple Cider Vinegar Therapy for Diabetes
Home Remedy Ingredients
- Apple Cider Vinegar - 1 Teaspoon
- Filtered Water - 8 to 10 Ounces
Take the ACV tonic three times a day with meals—one teaspoon of ACV in a large glass of water. Increase the amount of ACV to 1-2 tablespoons per glass as your body tolerates it. The mix of nutrients and digestive aids in unpasteurized apple cider vinegar (ACV) can slow down the digestive process (especially the metabolism of sugars) and improve total sugar metabolism.

I went to see my Dr. about the gallstones and he said that he wanted my blood tested for Diabetes and my thyroid. (I have had type 2 diabetes for some time), I went to the earth clinic.com on the computer and they suggested that I take 1/4 of a cup of apple cider vinegar (which equals to about 8 apple cider vinegar tablets) and 1 cup of apple juice a day. Well, time passed and I didn't hear about my test, so I called, they said that every thing was OK, I told them that I had diabetes, she said well you don't have it now, this was about two months ago. Yesterday, I went to my eye Dr. He said that I didn't have diabetes in my eyes anymore. I was taking the vinegar and coconut oil for one gallstones and it healed me for diabetes. So praise the Lord."Replies

I'm not one to take medication for anything but, they said I need to lower my sugar(A1C) level while also losing 20-25 lbs in 3 months. I just wonder if anyone knows of any Apple Cider Vinegar concoction for diabetic control of lowering sugar?? Please help!!
thank you, jennifer"Replies
10/21/2011: Maria from Gippsland, Australia replies: "Hi Jennifer, Along with ACV also check out these two herbs Gymnema Sylvester and Bitter Melon plus the spice Ceylon Cinnamon. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitter_melonhttp://www.diabeteslibrary.org/View.aspx?url=GymnemaIodine is also worth looking into, Jorge D. Flechas, M.D. found that iodine is helpful in diabetes. http://www.optimox.com/pics/Iodine/IOD-10/IOD_10.htm
Check out ECs diabetes page as there is good info there including Ted's recomendations. Personally I think starting off with low doses of iodine (1 drop) and ACV (1 teaspoon) is best and build up. This way you can avoid any sudden elimination reactions. All the best."
10/21/2011: Rob from Manhattan, Ny replies: "this would correspond to a recent Harvard study that red meat dramatically increases the risk of type 2 diabetes..
This conficts with the health promotions of the paleo or atkins diet which is high in meat, low carb consumption...
I prefer to cross reference the best of all these diets and not hold onto any one in absolute... So heading towards a paleo diet of fresh raw ingredients, though with little red meat, preferring high omega fish such as wild salmon or sardines... Still nothing wrong with the occasional potato (baked) or a bowl of brown rice or steel cut oatmeal. Moderation with enjoyment is key and naturally finding those foods that agree with us individually.."
10/08/2011: Kimmi (moonlight58) from Park City-wichita, Ks: "HI, all, I'm back again with yet another (!! ) ailment.. I was diagnosed yesterday by my doctor with Type 2 Diabetes and high blood pressure. My Dr. put me on Metformin, 500 mg, 2 x a day... Can I still take the ACV in water while I'm on this medicine?
I'm not sure what my A1C test result was, but when they first tested my blood sugar it was over 600. Forty five minutes later, they restuck me and it had dropped to 411. (Still hella high! ) This morning, I tested my BS (before breakfast) and it was down to 310. Anyway, would love to know if I can take the ACV in water while I'm on the Metformin... Thanks in advance for any answers! :)"
01/08/2012: Koi from Sofia, Bg replies: "Hi Kimmi, if you follow this raw juice formula that Ti from Houston gave above, you will feel a total change in short time. Just avoid all kind of oils, exept the coconut oil. Reishi mushroom on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and last in the evening can be also very helpful. Hope this can help."
08/22/2011: Kathy from Stone Ridge, Ny: "ACV for diabetes
I am borderline diabetic A1C 6.0 - fasting glucose daily test 90-112. I would like to know if it is necessary to take potassium if I start using your recommended daily dose of ACV (2 tsp in 16oz of water sipped throughout the day). I dread the thought of adding another supplement to my daily regiment, but I definitely want to try the ACV. I have recently started drinking a cup of fenugreek tea in the morning and adding 1/2 tsp of cinnamon to my oat bran in the morning."Replies
08/22/2011: Ti from Houston, Usa replies: "Kathy, Please do green juice each morning and notice how your fasting blood sugar shifts in 2-3 weeks. My doctors were very impressed. I went from 120 to 79 in less than a month.
- Juice (and drink withOUT pulp)
- 1 full celery
- 1 cucumber (with peel)
- small piece of ginger
- 1/2 lemon juice
Drink on an empty stomach first thing in the morning and notice your life change for the absolute best! Good luck."
08/22/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "The latest on type 2. Diabetes, is that if the calorific intake is dropped to 500 calories a day for 8 weeks. The fat that surrounds the Pancreas disolves and the insulin producing cells wake up ant start producing insulin. Even that is dietry.. The advisory stated that it should be done under medical supervision. But this is only for type 2.. Type one is hereditary. It also advised plenty of green leafy vegies like brocoli and chard.... which smacks of the Paleo diet where 4 kilos of vegies must be consumed everday."
08/23/2011: Francisca from Michelbach-le-bas, Alsace, France replies: "4 kilos of vegetables a day, Gavin? Are you sure??? I don't think that anyone can eat that much..... Just imagine 4 kg of tomatos.... If it is beetroots for example it is easier because they are heavier but who on earth is going to be able to eat 4 kg a day? We eat vegetables every day but I think that maybe we buy 4kg a week for the two of us.
By the way, yesterday we were having a chat with a guy who has a marvellous vegetable patch (we live in the countryside). We often stop there and talk to him. He was carrying a big bucket of string beans and all of a sudden decided to give the whole thing to us. Heavy to carry home..... We will try to eat as much as we can and my husband is going to take a big bag to the office. This evening we will go for our walk again and will leave the bucket there with a bottle of wine inside. We will also take a bag to pick apples and whatever fruit we find in the fields as they let everything rot on the ground, tons of untreated fruit......"
08/23/2011: Gavin from Manganui, Northland, New Zealand replies: "Yes 4 kilos a day.. It was a very interesting documentary. About six people were all picked for high blood pressure high sugar, high cholesterol etc. They were all very close to serious problems. All returned normal readings in ten days. It was called the Monkey diet in the documentary.. Flatulence was reported on the diet.
As a by line.. I just read WD40.. The lubricant has nothing harmefull in it.. It has been reported by the Chaplain of a Texas corectional intstitution, that the inmates spray it on aching body parts and the pain goes within minutes. Who would have guessed. It was the 40th formula for a water displacement spray for missile parts hence WD40.. Who would have guessed. I'd better shut up I'm posting to much lol."
01/13/2012: Serafin from Covina, Ca.usa replies: "WD40 is not harmful because it's main ingredient is fish oil."
[YEA] 07/23/2011: Donnajz from Arnold, California, Usa: "I found your website in June, 2011. For nine years I have had type 2 diabetes. On July 18, 2002 I went into a diabetic coma and my BS was 1171. By the grace and mercy of God and the Doctors I survived. I have been on insulin for nine years. On June 19, 2011 I started drinking 2 glasses of water, 12 oz each with one tablespoon of acv, I sip it with a straw during the day. As the days went by I started feeling better and within weeks I noticed I had to use less insulin. Now, instead of taking 3 to 4 units of humilin I only need one with my breakfast of egg and toast. In the last few days, this being July 23, I realize I need less of my night time insulin--lantus.
My BS dropped to 54 last night and I had to drink a regular soda pop to bring up my BS. This morning my BS was 129. On July 29th I have a Doctor's appointment to get my A1C test. I will write back and let you know the results. My last A1C was 7.1. I am feeling like my old self and have more energy and a better attitude. I will be 67 years old in Sept.
God Bless Earth Clinic for this site and all of you who have contributed your thoughts, ideas, questions and replies. One more thing, I have been oil pulling since March 11, 2011 after my daughter told me she was doing it. I use organic coconut oil. I have not missed one morning of oil pullling. Again, thank you all, especially Earth Clinic. I appreciate you so much."
06/12/2011: Lisa Van'twout from Los Angeles, Ca: "I noticed ACV doesn't work for everyone. Something to consider. Are any of you taking statin drugs for high cholesterol or glucosamine/chondroitin for arthritis? Both of these are known to raise blood sugar and for some even cholesterol. That is another subject but thought I would mention it. I just went off statins 3 weeks ago and already my arthritis is 75% better. Waiting to get my 1AC results back on the sugar."
02/11/2011: Bill from Olive Branch, Ms.: "I was diagnosed as a diabetic almost two years ago. I have that under control. My blood pressure is like 150/80 and take medication for that but has not lower too much. I have started drinking Apple Cider Vinegar. How long after drinking the vinegar before I see it working."Replies
04/24/2011: James from Atlanta, Georgia, Usa replies: "I would not reccommend the use of apple cider vinegar in the lowering of your blood pressure there are several natural treatments that you can do.
1. Go to bed before 9:30pm.
2. Walk one hour per day 7 days per week.
3. Only drink water stop all other liquids especially coffee, green tea, black tea, chai tea, lipton ice tea, red tea, white tea, mate`, energy drinks, all soda's, no flesh at all consider becoming a vegan veggitarian because there is a chemical in all flesh items that causes high blood pressure the name of the chemical is "hypoxanthine" it acts like caffeine and thus increases the blood pressure.
4. No spices or condiments also here is the list ( all hot sauces and peppers including cayenne, no ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon, cloves, black or white peppers, no ketchup, no mustard, no mayo, no items that contains vinegar(especially all of your commercial dressings), as well as no fermented items, no alcohol, no smoking, no tobacco chewing and like items). Herbal items that can be used take 2 garlinase garlic tablets 3 times daily with meals.
Finally, it take about 3 weeks to see the first drop in your blood pressure then in about 7-9 weeks later the other drop however dont worry follow the outline it works like a charm."
12/27/2010: Anna from Trenton, Mo.: "I've been diabetic for 27 yrs, and have developed gastroparysis, been insulin dependent since age eleven. Will Apple Cider Vinegar help me since I've always been on insulin? I've only read about type the 2 diabetes& acv. Please help! My A1C goes between 11. & 13. I've always been a BRITTLE diabetic no matter what I do or try!!!"
11/26/2009: Duskyred from Miami, Fl: "ACV and diabetes
I stumbled upon your site because a friend of mine told me about taking ACV for his diabetes and I wanted to research the effects before I tried it. I too have diabetes and my A1C has gone from 7.5 to 9.1 in just two and a half years. I don't know why and my doctors don't either. I'm technically a 2 but the only thing that works for me is insulin (my pancreas is nearly shot). I'm so excited after reading the testimonials on this site until I am going to try it immediately. I will definitely let you know how it's working over the next two weeks. My average daily bs is about 220 right now. Thanks for the opportunity..."Replies
10/05/2010: Mary from Utica, New York replies: "I have a question.. ACV does it help with type 1 diabetes... Has anyone found something to help children w/type 1?"
10/06/2010: Me from SA replies: "Hi Mary, I urge you to watch a movie called "Simply Raw: reversing diabetes in 30 days". You can find it by googling or at Amazon."
06/30/2011: Tony from Virginia Beach, Va replies: "ACV test great with salad and olive oil. I eat much more than 2 TBS daily (in salad) and I love it."
