Pork Fat

[YEA]  06/10/2007: Nadia B from Toronto, Ontario Canada: "Whenever I've gotten a burn or a bruise, I've used raw pork fat (salo) applied directly to the wound and change the fat as needed. (After 8-12 hours or overnight) It never fails! The key is to apply it immediatly. I go to my local butcher and ask for pork salo. I cut the fat up into thin pieces (0.5 inch thick) of various sizes and then store them in the freezer in case of emergency. That way I always have some on hand. (Pork salo is very cheap, and in some cases the butcher will give it to you for free). DO NOT try this remedy using bacon etc (the salt will irritate the wound)."

[YEA]  11/24/2007: Sandy from In the sticks, Nevada: "Turmeric helped shrink a terrible bone bruise on my shin. I started taking turmeric to help my joints -- I'm not sure it is helping with that yet -- but it has helped shrink and reduce the swelling of the worst bruise. On the day before Father's day this year, my horse slipped in a creek, landed on my leg and then stood up on my leg! Ouch! Nothing was broken and after a few weeks most of the black and blue color disappeared from my foot and leg. All around my lower shin bone there was tenderness and a hard swelling (about 3 inches in diameter all around the damaged area) and this has persisted until the last few weeks when I upped my turmeric intake. The hard swelling has almost disappeared and the tenderness has decreased also. I have been taking three 500mg capsules twice a day for about two weeks now."

[YEA]  05/27/2009: Danielle from Grand Rapids, Michigan: "For bruising, if you put a little oil on the bumped spot before the bruise appears it will not show up. At most it will only be a little red. My son is quite hard on himself and I have done this so many times for him. I don't know if it takes the pain away as well or not but every time he gets hurt he asks for oil on it now. It can really be any kind of oil, usually around the house I have vegetable oil or olive oil."

[YEA]  06/22/2008: Lori from Moxee, Wa: "I have found that using vicks or menthol rub will quicken the healing process of a bruise. The campor in the products speeds the healing. It really has many healing properties. Cheap and usually in my medicine cabinet. Just a dab will do, about 3 times a day. Don't use it around the eyes."

[YEA]  09/10/2007: Lorrie from Nixa, Missouri: "When my grandmother was very young she got a stone bruise on the bottom of her foot. Evidently she carried on quite a bit over the terrible pain she was in. Great-grandmother had an idea. She told her to sit still for her, that she was going to tie a bullfrog to her foot.."belly against the bruise" She said this would cure the bruising right away. Well just the threat of having some bullfrog's belly tied to the bottom of her foot worked like a charm.. grandma's foot felt wonderful quite suddenly!"

Witch Hazel

[YEA]  08/07/2008: Betty from Laverne, Oklahoma: "Witch Hazel is an awesome remedy I learned from my Grandmother and I am sure she learned it from her mother (b. 1861). The trick is to bathe the bruise as quickly after injury as possible. Then repeat for several times. But even if you can't immediately treat the bruise, witch hazel will take some of the soarness & discoloring away even the next day. Awesome stuff! Of course, witch hazel has an alcohol base so do not ingest it or get it in your eyes (common sense)."

[YEA]  Govinda from Calabasas: "I use a cotton ball dunked in witch hazel for bruising. I do this 3x a day and within 2 days, my bruise has all but faded."
