Coconut Oil

[YEA] 12/17/2007: Brynne from Irving, Texas: "I listened to a nutritionist last night who reminded me that the brain is mostly fat, and when we aren't sleeping well, feel irritable, can't concentrate, or even have headaches, our brains may be crying out for fat! As we add the coconut oil to our diet, our brains may find greater balance and we feel the soothing nature of the unctuos coconut oil internally as well as externally. This all happened when I recently took only 1 TBS of Coconut oil per day for 2 days and then started my cycle without the usual 4 aspirin headache...my cycle was so peaceful. I felt so quiet and easy throughout my body; there was no struggle to have my normal cycle."

[YEA] 04/08/2008: Nate from Los Angeles, CA: "Cold showers for brain fog are great for waking up in the morning and actually lifting one's mood. Takes a bit to get used to (heavy breath intakes and shivering) but after you step out you feel alive and then, as you warm up ... awesome! I have been doing them for 4 days now - do it slightly "cool", to get used to it, then cool it down even more. I make it about a 3-4 minute affair. Seems to have cured morning "head fog". If you're new to it - get ready for a rush."
Colloidal Silver
01/07/2009: Jon from Atlanta, Ga: "I have heard that colloidal silver helps with brain fog, but I have heard that heavy metals can attribute to brain fog. So does colloidal silver make brain fog worse in the long run? Please help."

[YEA] 02/19/2009: Roger from New Smyrna Beach, Fla USA: "Hershey's Special Dark Mildly sweet chocolate.
----------------------------------------------
This will clear BRAIN FOG.
It is high in antioxdants to help the brain make faster elect connection. The chocolate and sugar speeds up the blood flow to the brain.
You should take one section three times a day.
Most people the fog starts to clear in about 4 hours.
It will also help your memory.
It is a cheap fix that the Dr. will not tell you about as it is not approved by the Medical Board.
Try it it works great for brain fog.
If you take it everyday you will also lose weight.
If you have a question e-mail me."
RepliesEC: Actually, 100% dark chocolate (no sugar) is best if you can find it. A friend of ours, an osteopathic doctor, recently turned us on to the 100%. We buy it here: http://www.chocosphere.com Click on the Pralus image (http://www.chocosphere.com/Html/Products/pralus.html), then scroll down towards bottom of page to find 100%. Be forewarned, it is BITTER!!!
04/28/2010: Rose from Los Angeles , Ca replies: "I quickly got used to the bitterness and now find the taste very enjoyable."
[YEA] 03/04/2008: Roger from New Smyrna Beach, Fla: "re: Fibromyalgia Brain Fog. I had this after a heart problem. A friend said have you tried Dark Chocolate Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate. I said no what does it do for you? Clears the Brain Fog.
I got one bar at the Drug store. The next day half of the bar was gone and so was the Fog. It did not come back. I still keep three large Bars in the ref. I tell everyone about this stuff."
Detox
08/17/2012: Reader Of EC from Los Angeles: "1st, try to reduce grains from your diet. 2nd go 2 days without eating meat and when you resume, try to eat smaller amounts. Eat mostly fresh uncooked veggies for week. 3rd, do a parasite cleanse recommended by Dr Hulda Clark. Fresh ground cloves, Black walnut tincture and Wormwood herb. Those three can be purchased at your local heath food store. Its very hard to find Blackwanut tincture or freeze dried caps that are still green. They are most effective against brain fog when green.
Buy omega fish oil with combined 3, 6 and 9 capsules. You will see a big difference with omega's. I'm currently experiencing brain fog and that helps. I also will need to sleep in for 2 days in a row as for some reason, that helps heal the fog faster with the other mentioned treatments, even when I have had enough sleep.
Olive leaf extract will act as a natural anti biotic and help your body fight any accumulations of bacteria or viruses in the body. It was once recamended that I try probiotics however with me it did not help at all. I think my body saw this as an intrusion and I felt a little more tired than usual after taking them.
Coffee enema. It sounds gross but it's very effective at evacuating toxins from your liver. Be sure the coffee is organic as coffee beans are one of the most heavily pesticide sprayed crops.
The water must be distilled and NOT tap! That's VERY important. The coffee should be normal strength and not made too strong. Its actually recommended that the coffee be simmered/boiled for 10 minutes. When cooled, the coffee should be held in for 15 min while laying on your right side. I recommend doing more research on coffee enemas and personal testimonials.
You may want to investigate your environment for potential common contaminates such as mold or fungus spores from damp areas around the home that may cause brain fog. You may also want to investigate any recent dental work with amalgam fillings. If you have had any recent vaccinations you may want to do some research some effective supplements to help the body remove the toxic preservatives.
I think with me, I notice it's my intestines/colon or liver than can cause the brain fog. When it's the liver, the coffee enema works. When the intestines, the parasite cleans and eating mostly raw veggies, juicing apples and carrots."

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS] 02/28/2009: Pam from Pittsburgh, PA: "I tried inhaling 3% hydrogen peroxide today for chronic brain fog and headaches. I emptied a nasal spray and poured the 3% hp that I bought at the local grocery store. I sprayed 5 sprays in the back of my throat while breating in. It burned my throat a little and the taste made me gag but I noticed a small decrease in the amount of brain fog that I am experiencing. I think I may have done too much too soon though because 2 hours later I did the same amount and again 2 more hours later. I felt very fatigued and needed to sleep. Has this happened to anyone else? Also, when you spray it to the back of your throat, do you also swallow it? I just ordered 35% HP on the internet and plan to dillute it... maybe it will taste a little better and won't hurt my stomach as much?"
Replies02/12/2011: Tim from Spartanburg, Sc replies: "To Pam from Pittsburgh, You used peroxide from the store? That is poison! When you read about 3% peroxide, that means food grade 35% diluted to 3%. The 3% solution sold in stores contains many ingredients you do NOT want to ingest. Hence the skull and crossbones on the label. I know you posted this quite a while ago, I hope you are ok and did not harm yourself."
[YEA] 09/15/2007: Jonna from Los Angeles: "Lately I have been having a hell of a time with digestive issues. Not sure what is going on -- it may be that I am eating way too much hormone injected chicken and turkey now that I moved in with my partner, who has to eat meat at least once a day or he gets sick. On the other hand, I ate a Trader Joe's garlic naan last week at home with a homemade curry and woke up to extreme abdominal pain and brain fog. Second time that happened with the naan, will have to check the ingredients next time I go. So perhaps I am allergic to wheat now. I don't know. At any rate, after a week of snail's pace recovery with Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda, molasses, etc., I decided to a) eat vegetarian and b) do Bill Munro's h202 inhalation therapy. I started the peroxide therapy yesterday at about noon. By 8pm the brain fog that I have had for a week disappeared. This morning, exactly 24 hours later, my digestive tract finally feels back to normal. No more abdominal pain. I did 6 pumps of 3% h202 (drugstore brand) every 2- 3 hours. I think eating only rice and vegetables the last few days was helpful too. Yahoo!"
Replies10/11/2007: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi Jonna, don't give up on the wheat yet! If you are eating bleached flour bread, try going to l00% whole wheat bread. If the problem decreases, then work on eliminating all bleached flour products, and this takes some thought because a lot of noodles, pastas, thickening in soups, dressings, sauces, saltine crackers contain bleached flour. Also, before you give up on eating chicken and turkey, read the ingredients on the package (even on the raw chicken that you have to take home and cook). If it lists chicken broth, natural flavors or natural flavoring package contains monosodiumglutamate."
Lemon Balm
05/09/2011: Earthshine from Hillsboro, Oregon, Unitedstates: "Lately I've been noticing that I do not have that sharp of a memory well pretty much I have a horrible memory and I am only 21. I haven't done to much research on things that are good for memory but the other day I was told that Lemon Balm is good for your memory. So I randomly bought some at whole food yesterday and was just woundering if anyone else has tried this for brain fog and maybe knows a good dosage to take. The bottle says 30 drops equals one ml. So if you have any information that would be great. I feel like having a bad memory has stopped me from pursuing alot in my life and I think it is a big part of my nervousness and social anxiety."
Multiple Remedies
05/26/2012: Patty from Ontario, Canada: "Brain fog can also result from an unbalanced 'gut', hypothyroidism and allergies to certain foods like wheat and gluten. I have been suffering from very bad headaches and brain fog for close to a year now and suspect the long time use of allergic foods and an unbalanced gut. 7 days ago I started taking Probiotics, eliminated wheat/Gluten, added Aloe Vera juice 3x a day as a tonic and am blending lots of greens (spinach, kale, chard, cilantro, cucumber, green appleas and pear) into a smoothie 3 times a day to alkalize my body. Too early to tell yet, but noticed more energy, major improvement of my nails.
I will now add AVC daily. Appreciate everyone's input."
12/04/2011: Cc from Slc, Utah: "For brain fog: 1tsp Lemongrass (loose leaf) 1tsp Lemon Myrtle (loose leaf) 1 White TEA, tea bag. Take 2 cups of hot water brew for 5 to 7 minutes. Drink 4oz to 12oz a day for a period of time. You could add a Rose Hip tea bag to this mix. This cleared my head and it also made it where I can spell and retain words better. It also improved my ability to pronunce words. I wish I had this back in the 6th grade... I would also say I am on a green diet. Lemongrass and Lemon Myrtle both contain Citral. Lemon Myrtle (90-98%) Lemongrass (65-85%). Citral also has strong antimicrobial qualities. Side effects I don't know.
When I was a little kid I had a bad twitch with my eyes, mouth and my neck and in the 60's the doc's didn't know why I did it. Growing up I always struggled with english and spelling. I now think that from a young age my body has been dealing with some type of infection that caused brain fog and now that I'm in my forties I find myself with a much better clarity of thought."
Oil Pulling

[YEA] 01/25/2009: Burton from Portland, Oregon: "I read about oil pulling on this site and decided to try it, though i wasn't aware of any real health problems. I only had olive oil in the house so I went with that for 3 or 4 days and did the neti pot nasal flush afterward each time. I used a tablespoon of oil and swished for 15 minutes, rinsing afterward with 1/2 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. baking soda in warm water. Throughout the course of those four days I noticed a startling mood elevation and mental clarity that I hadn't had in a very long time. I also noticed alot of sinus drainage and my ability to smell increased. Also my eyes stopped feeling itchy or dry. I switched over to sesame oil because it was recommended, but have since switched back to olive oil and experienced the same mood elevation and mental clarity. This has made me wonder if I was suffering from low-grade depression the whole time. I feel much calmer and focussed, less confused and find alot more reasons to laugh during the day. I also have a TON more energy and work much harder. This energy caused me to have some problems sleeping for the first few days. One last thing is that my beard seems to have gotten much thicker and softer. I'm excited about such a cheap and simple remedy and would recommend it to everyone."
Replies02/15/2009: Rich from Boca Raton, Fl replies: "Many Americans have b-vitamin deficiencies, particularly Thiamin or B-1.
Many diseases can lead to brain fog. Candida, Staph, poor digestion problems. The first thing to test though, is a B-complex vitamin. Sometimes miraculous results can be produced in a day or two (if brainfog hasn't been a chronic condition).
Here is a discussion of sub-cortical dimensia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dementia
This can be caused by b-1,b-12, folic acid deficiencies. Other b-vitamin deficiencies can also lead to brain fog. As a b-vitamin is water soluble, safe, and cheap($5)... if you have brain fog, it may be worth while picking up a bottle and testing this out. It might change your life, or at least buy you some time to figure out the underlying cause."

02/05/2011: Jessica G from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada: "Hello, I have struggled with chronic brain fog for 10 years and have not figured it out. I am on anti ds as I have had two major depressive episodes, but I don't believe the fog is because of the depression, I think I have developed depression because I have not been able to live my life or succeed at anything. I have had a few tests done, but am wondering exactly what test I need my doctor to help me get, or who I need to see or what I have to do to find out the source of my problem. I have no other health issues and am very healthy other than the constant, exhausting brain fog. What should I do, I cannot live like this any longer. Thank you - Jessica"
Replies02/05/2011: Tommy from North York, On, Canada replies: "Hi, Chronic brain frogs are usually a sign of a chronic infection ( protozoal or bacterial). You have to do a stool test for ova and parasites and some tests for Lime disease and other bacterial infections."
02/06/2011: Bess from Calgary, Alberta, Canada replies: "Hi Jessica - I have heard that your brain consumes 25% of your energy so, in order to get rid of brain fog, you need to ensure you are "feeding" your brain what it needs - high-quality protein, omega-3 oils (like fish oil), proper intake of vitamins/minerals (especially a B-complex, but also Vitamin D, etc. ), exercise, limit stress (easier said than done! ), get the right amount of quality sleep, cut back on sugar, caffeine, alcohol, etc. , be social/interactive with others, challenge your brain - do puzzles, read, learn something new, stay away from TV as much as possible. Cut back on grains and white flour to see if you feel better without them. Also, there are people trained in biofeedback which is supposed to help those with brain fog (check with alternative health care providers). Check the Internet for a list of side effects from the anti-depressants you are on. My sister-in-law had constant brain fog until she found out it was from her medication. Her doctor decided to wean her from the pills and recommended several books to help her handle her depression (two which helped - although there are many, many others - are The Mindful Way Through Depression - Freeing Yourself from Chronic Unhappiness (Mark Williams) and The Depression Cure - The 6-Step Program to Beat Depression Without Drugs (Stephen Ilardi) - get them from the library to see if they help you. Last - but not least - drink plenty of quality water with a bit of sea salt in it (1/4 teaspoon sea salt in each litre of water). Good luck, Jessica - I hope you find the right combination that helps you get rid of this problem."
05/01/2011: Jordan from Kansas City, Missouri replies: "Jessica: You may have candida. I would try eating raw garlic. Garlic has anti-microbial properties. If that either exacerbates or alleviates the symptoms, that means the garlic is working. Look into related treatments."
04/05/2009: Mariela from Kew Gardens, New York: "Epidural side effects
Dear Ted,
I hope that you are able to help me. I gave birth seven months ago with the help of the epidural. However, as soon as I received the shot, I started itching and noticed brain fog. To this day, when it rains, it hurts at the site where I received the shot. Also, I still feel itchy and have developed a rash that comes and goes. The brain fog is still there. Slightly better since I started taking B Complex every other day, Fish Oil and supplements to help with adrenal fatigue. However, even with all this, I am suffering from MAJOR memory loss. My short term memory is none existent. This is affecting my every day life, and my job. I cannot recall things that I have done 30 minutes ago. I find myself writing everything down. This is quite scary, being that I am only 35 and always had good memory. I hope that you are able to provide some advice. Just so that you know, I am also taking ACV and BSM (for fibroids).
Many thanks in advance."
04/05/2009: T from Maryland, USA replies: "I'm not Ted and I hope you don't mind me putting my 2 cents in here...and at the risk of making yet another thyroid post ;) Pregnancy is actually a common trigger for thyroid problems, and although most pregnancy-induced thyroid problems apparently resolve on their own, some do not. I know my own problems really exploded after I had my son. I used to joke that he took my brains out with him as he was born, but as time went on it was no laughing matter. I remember the horrifying moment when I realized I suddenly couldn't recall my own birth date! And I had always been "the sharpest tool in the shed", so to speak. It was devastating to realize my mental functioning was steadily eroding and I had no idea why. I have actually since seen posters in doctor's offices describing these things and noting that they could seem similar to degenerative brain problems like Alzheimer's but were actually thyroid problems. Also, thyroid disorders can cause skin problems like you're having.
Now I certainly don't know if this is what you have or if an epidural could indeed cause such problems for so long; it's just something you might want to look into with a simple blood test. Don't let them only go by a TSH test. Insist they test FREE T3 and FREE T4 as well, then get those lab figures and research them yourself online at thyroid forums (don't take the doctor's word for "normal").
As for the pain at the epidural spot, I could feel sensation there for YEARS after having it done (my epi guy was the pits; I also had to have the 'blood patch' injection into my spine 2 days later thanks to him, but that's a whine for another day ;)). I think that just may take a really long time to fully heal, or maybe the body makes a very strong memory of it as we are just not supposed to have our spines punctured!
Sending best wishes for your wellness. Please let us know how it turns out."
[YEA] 04/15/2009: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "To Mariela: If I were you, I think I would request a copy of my hospital record of this delivery. I am wondering what they gave you in that epidural! Were you mentally aware of all going on throughout the labor & delivery or do you have blanks for part of that time? If so, was any family member with you that can tell you about any unusual occurence? The pain at site of injection can be explained by an unusual traumatic arthritis type paid but you should not be having brain fog 7 months post delivery and loss of short term memory!
My son tells me he heard on the news a few months back that Alzheimers is hitting people in their 30's. That was after I was reading in the local newspapers that it was much more prevalent and hitting at a younger age in people without any genetic predisposition. However the one they went into detail about was a female bank executive who had been on disability for 3 years at age 52 because of Alzheimers. We all need to start paying more attention to what we are putting into our bodies! Matter of fact we should have been paying it more attention 30 or 40 years ago. Was just reading about damage to our bodies from the well known sodium benzoate preservative found in most carbonated beverages and a whole lot of our foods of all kinds (processed that is)."
06/13/2009: Mariela from Kew Gardens, New York replies: "This is an update. It's now been 9 months since I gave birth. Still feel pain when it rains at the vaccination site. Still suffering from short term memory [brain fog]. This is making me feel really down since I have to contanstly question myself if I did something or not, I can't recall anything. I am still taking the ACV, Magnesium and fish oil. I had myself checked and have been told I don't have any thyroid issues, etc. that everything is fine. I tried to take the extra virgin coconut oil, but it makes my face breakout. Haven't had much success with the oil pulling either. Don't know what else to do. Perhaps someone there is able to help me? I feel as If I already have Alzheimer's...Just wanted to thank T from Maryland and Joyce from Joelton for their good wishes."
06/13/2009: Sangeetha from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands replies: "Hi Mariela, Maybe you did have slight brain fog before the epidural but it was so little that you didn't notice? If there is any chance of that, check on what you eat. Had you changed some of your food items/brand a few days/weeks beofre you delivered your baby and you have continued to use it until now? There may be some food that is affecting your central nervous system which is causing brain fog. I suffered from brain fog recently and fortunately (but after spending quite a bit of my and insurance money at the doctors) realised that the cause of my problem was Canola Oil. if this is not the case, do your research on epidural. Also do some kind of yoga where you have to put your head down (like the shoulder stand or something) which will reverse the blood flow and send the blood to brain. This will require patience as it would not work overnight. I totally understand what you are going through and sympathise with you. If you somehow find a way to take VCO, that should cure your problem in 2 weeks. Wish you good luck."

[YEA] 03/24/2009: Katie from Edina, MN: "I have had brain fog /die off (also known as Heximer's reaction) when I have cleansed and toxins are released. I have had success taking an amino acid combination: L-Arginine/L. Ornithine. I read that they absorb the toxins and I have relief from the brain fog within 1/2 hour. I take one capsule, 1000 mg on an empty stomach. Also, I have had good results with a molybdenum 120 mcg & Glutathione 50 mg complex, sublingual tablet. However, I use the amino acid combo more often, because it is easier to find online or in my local health food store."
Replies07/26/2012: Jas from New Delhi, India replies: "Hi Guys, I have gone through most of the feedbacks that you shared and seems some of you might can help me. I am not sure If I am suffering from Brain Fog or not but symtops are quite same. It started almost 45 days back when I suddenly had a severe fatigue attack. Dont know the reason, may be due to a bit stress or heat. After that I felt quite low for at least 3-4 days. After recovering I started going back to my work, suddenly in afternoon I have this brain foggy feeling. Unclear mind, Stiffness, missing major feelings and slight on creativity side and throughout its continous..... In short feeling some cloudiness in brain. But I am able to do rest of my works fine, talk fine, walk fine, work fine, but this wierd feeling of brain fog is killing me.I consulted specialized neurologist, he said its a tension type headache and advised antidepressant clonozepam so as it can relax muscles. Also he said may be its some chemical imbalance due to defficiency in serotonin, but no firm tests are their to prove it. I took medicine for 3 weeks, but it hardly helped, instead when I left, I faced severe headache for 2 days. Right now, I am not taking any medication and foggy feeling is still constant, even I believe its not a stress headache as I do not have any stress other than to get rid of this thing. All my reports, MRI, EEG, Blood tests are normal. Only I am left with thyroid and Vitamin deficiency tests.
Please advise if ACV will be usefull in my case. In addition I am trying to but breathing exercizes in routine, but not much benifit yet. Dont know what to do next."
07/26/2012: Lisa from Thousand Oaks, Ca, Usa replies: "Hi Jas, I would venture to say, by what you are describing, that you are suffering from a severe case of candida. Candida can manifest in many ways and it is the root cause of many illnesses of which doctors don't really address or give credibility to what candida is capable of doing to the body. Many people have systemic candida and one of the big tell tale signs is severe brain fog. Medications exacerbate the problem. There is so much information on Earth Clinic regarding this subject especially from Bill of San Fernando, Luzon, Philippines. It would be redundant for me to go back over it since he has covered this extensively and combated it in himself. I have not had it, only helped others to overcome this, eventually quite debilitating issue. Not long ago, he even addressed what I just said in my first paragraph. Anyway, check out his information here. Another leading authority regarding candida is Donna Gates and you can find her by googling Body Ecology in which her site has lots of info as well. Diet is the first place to start and detoxing.
Wishing you the best, Lisa"
