TED'S REMEDIES

07/28/2007: Ted from Bangkok, Thailand writes: "Remedies for brain fog is a long one, but to keep it really short, alkalizing is the basic as alkalization dilates the capillaries, which includes the brain.

Certain infections, yeast, candida can initiate a brain fog too, as much as mycoplasma, mycobacterium and other microbial overload. The one interesting aspect of alkalization is these microorganism don't survive well in alkaline and high oxygen environments.

There are certain other supplements that have high anti fungals (which causes brain fogs), and heavy metal accumulation can also lead to brain fog (when you take antibiotics, heavy metal accumulates), and even in event of vaccination (mycoplasma they are living, exist causing brain fog, but also the mercury and the aluminum they added). Therefore, molybdenum and boron (from borax) have antifungal properties too. Molybdenum is a well know antioxidant, at least for me, which exists in superoxide dismutase along with copper and zinc also.

Regarding the use of boron (antifungal), I posted several information on that already. However, apple cider deserves a special mention because of the malic acid content (eating apples helps) removes aluminum build up and that can help the brain fog as well.

One particular less known remedies of brain fog is the magnesium where I read an article concerning heavy metal toxicity were reduced and hence brain fog, if the body's magnesium level is sufficient since magnesium is protective against heavy metal toxicity, so despite higher than average level of heavy metal, the effects can be minimized with magnesium supplements such as magnesium citrate.

I attached below a link to other information sources regarding the use of molybdenum. I used it myself to help with night vision problem, along with vitamin A when taking them, but I don't take them that frequently, just as needed basis. Molybdenum can also help with brain fog due to its anti candida properties."

[YEA]  08/18/2007: Anya from Phoenix, Arizona writes: "I am now a firm believer of the benefits of Apple Cider Vinegar. For the past 6 months I have been suffering from extreme fatigue, and do not know why. I've been to many doctors and not one can tell me why. I think I have it narrowed down to either chronic fatigue syndrome, valley fever or an allergy. I started taking ACV on a regular basis (3T per day) for the past 2 week. I can't even explain how much better I feel...it has given me my life back after 6 months of suffering. I still do not know what exactly is causing the fatigue, but I no longer have it! I would recommend this to everyone! I feel great, no more brain fog, fatigue, sore throat and my headaches are GONE. I finally feel normal again!"

07/20/2010: Kelley from London, Ontario/canada replies: "You probably have candida overgrowth. That's exactly what it sounds like according to your symptoms. Apple cider vinegar kills yeast overgrowth and is very effective."
12/21/2011: Patrick from Los Angeles, Ca replies: "I know it's been years since this post, but I'm in the same situation. I got sick with what I think was the flu, and not long after developed brain fog. It's been over a month and the flu has gone, but the brain fog has not subsided. Can this be from candida overgrowth, and does this have anything to do with the flu? I've just started drinking ACV with water yesterday after recommendations from a few sources on the internet, and I really hope this can finally alleviate this terrible condition, as I am a college student and I'm finding it extremely difficult to learn. Thank you."
12/21/2011: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Patrick brain fog could also be caused by Aspartame and MSG consumption. They are called "Excitotoxins" and can kill brain cells off (especially if you are magnesium deficient). If you are a student do you drink diet drinks or caffeine drinks? They are loaded with these. Google "Excitotoxins" to learn the dangers. Dr. Russell Blaylock has an excellent video on google video."

[YEA]  06/21/2007: Tina from Dumont, NJ writes: "Here is an update from when I recently wrote in about my experience of being "overly-energetic" after taking ACV. Upon further reading, I know now that ACV is a natural stimulant and the website for a popular brand of raw, organic, unrefined ACV 'with The Mother' actually recommends taking 1-2 teaspoons 3x/day, diluted with water (honey optional). OK, so now I understand why I've been bouncing off the walls the last week, feeling like I just downed coffee (very racing, manic feeling). Here's my new plan: 1 TEASPOON ACV with 7 oz. water and 1/4 tsp baking soda. I may take less or none with dinner because I'm not sleeping well. My husband is also sensitive to caffeine and he has had a similar experience to mine. I still love my ACV & what it's doing for my health - goodbye brain fog, depression, acid reflux & hopefully back pain!! Don't give up, folks, & God bless!"

[YEA]  12/09/2008: Wendy from Small Town, NC writes: "I tried ACV for UTI's with great success and have already written in about that. I am also loosing weight, and my arthritis symptoms have completely disappeared.

I also installed a reverse osmosis water filter to remove fluoride from my drinking water. I don't know if it is the ACV, or the fluoride free water that is making a difference, but I feel great. I have more energy and no more "brain fog"! My pain is gone! Maybe it is the combination, but it works!"

BRAIN BALANCING EXERCISES FOR BRAIN FOG

Ratings:

YEA

[YEA]  03/17/2008: Juli from Socorro, NM writes: "I have various minor ailments which I am working on correcting with acv and other cures, but for an immediate remedy for congestion and brain fog, first try breathing in through one nostril and out through the other, then switch and repeat until both nostrils are unclogged. If this method doesn't work, simply walk in a straight line for a few minutes, or try any other type of balancing exercises. These exercises will balance the brain hemispheres, clear up congestion and temporarily rid me of brain fog. I have never found anything to be as effective, not even acv. The downside is that it won't last forever (so take advantage and get some work done that requires a clear head).

Also, a tip about acv: if you buy the expensive mother vinegar, save a couple of tablespoons and pour it into a gallon of the cheap store brand. Soon, the cheap stuff will be growing the mother, and you will have a re-usable, active culture very much like a sponge for making bread."

BRAIN FOG DIET

[YEA]  03/19/2008: Gaye from Greenwich, CT writes: "I find that I have extreme brain fog (and brain fatigue for that matter) when I eat wheat and sugary things. I have made a great effort in the past few weeks to radically reduce my sugar intake and limit wheat consumption. I have also been eating tons and tons of cooked vegetable dishes with brown rice (Indian, Morrocan, etc. -- you can't believe how many recipes there are for vegetables!). I have also reduced my chicken and fish intake. And forget about beef after the humane society's video. NO WAY! Well, the most amazing changes I have discovered in the past week are that I have a very clear mind and sharper concentration that lasts consistently all day! My skin is also softer and my eyes are brighter.. dark circles not quite so noticeable. My husband and I just got a juicer and we have been having carrot and celery juice every few days. My current issue with juicing is that it appears to cause an acid pH quite quickly, but I might be doing the wrong concoction of ingredients. I tried cabbage and beets one day but felt nauseous for the next 12 hours!"

Replies
03/22/2008: Maureen from Etobicoke, Ontario, Canada replies: "My comment is to Gaye from Greenwich, CT. I have been juicing for more than 20 years. You need to make 7/8's of your juice as carrot juice and 1/8 greens. Or 1/8 combination of greens and beets. Beets are a powerful cleanser and you will have to lay down for half an hour after taking too much because of the cleaning effect, no matter how long you have been juicing! So be careful. Carrot Juice is the closest thing to the make-up of your blood. To give you an idea of how much beets to use we juice 4 lbs of carrots, one whole cucumber and a small beet the size of a golf ball. You can judge from that what amount you will need."

BRAIN FOG TRIGGERS

WARNING!

[WARNING!]  06/03/2009: Sangeetha from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands writes: "I found out the cause of my brain fog. No, it wasn't my hypothyroid, nor my anemia. And ACV seems to have been totally innocent. IT WAS CANOLA OIL.

I have been very sensitive to not-so-good quality of oil from my childhood. As we couldn't find the regular vegetable oil I use at the supermarket around beginning of April, I bought Canola oil. As the container was leaking, I transferred it to the vegetable oil container I had at home which was empty and forgot all about canola oil. Shortly after I had started using it, I had trouble with my memory and concentration, but I had forgotten all about my sensitivity to oils and about canola oil as it was coming out from the vegetable oil container. Just 5 days ago I remembered my sensitivity and researched about canola oil on the internet and found others who have had similar problems. It was also mentioned that it effects the central nervous system and could cause blindness in the long run. I stopped using it right away and started feeling better the next day itself.

I am glad I am sensitive to not-so-good oils as I feel the effects immediately. My family members who are not sensitive, would have seen worse effects after a few years if we continued to use it.

While I was reading about oils, I also found that the vegetable oil (the container of which has pictures of vegetables on the front) is actually a soy bean oil. I never read the ingredients as the name says vegetable oil and it has has pictures of vegetables. I found that soy bean oil is not at all good for thyroid and generally.

I have been using olive oil for normal cooking and vegetable oil for deep frying (sometimes) since. But since the vegetable oil isn't good and olive oil is not suitable for deep frying - it leaves the question...which is the best oil to use?

I would appreciate input from others as to which oil to use - which will not be hard on thyroid and which will also not cause brain fog or any other health issues.

08/15/2009: Nooree from Miami, Florida replies: "Hi Sangeetha

I have recently researched for my deep frying cooking oil and I got 5 different once. Grape seed is #1, Hazelnut is #2, Peanut oil is #3. and corn oil can be used for frying on 400 degrees. Even though canola being #5 on every article is good for most cooking and frying for most people but some people are allergic to it.I have read good and bad about canola oil and coconut oil so it is hard to believe on these articles, because people are benefiting from them. Specially the coconut oil. I fry my eggs in coconut oil if I can afford , I will fry every thing in the coconut extra virgin cold pressed oil but it is a little too expensive for me.

I think just like olive oil all vegetable oils are not good for frying they are ok for sauteing , stir fry and salads( they become rancid or toxic in high temps ) We can also use saflower and sunflower oil for cooking but not on high temps or frying. Since I read this I started using peanut oil for frying and coconut for all other cooking and medicinal use like for my hyper thyroid ( I probably am in hypo range now. Didn't take any blood test in 11 months) I feel fine so I think I do not need to. I am also taking kelp about 4 to 6 drop in water. I hope this helps."

COCONUT OIL

[YEA]  02/13/2009: Cathy from Villa Park, Illinois USA writes: "I have been using Extra Virgin Coconut Oil since April of 2008. One tablespoon per day. I have Hypothyroidism and was having a lot of problems with brain fog. I was having difficulty doing my job and sometimes would forget where I was going when driving home for a few seconds. I am a creative person but was totally unable to express my ideas in artwork or my writing. I could not organize my thoughts. I could not make decisions or remember what I was supposed to do. This on top of all the other symptoms of hypothyroidism. 2 weeks after I started taking it the brain fog totally went away. I am very dependent on the coconut oil now as I do not want to go back to not knowing what I was doing. As for my other symptoms such as totally lost my sex drive which is destroying my relationship and sleeping too much and low energy etc. it has not changed any of that. My thyroid has gotten worse and I have had to double my thyroid medication (Thyroxine). I am working with a Naturalpathic doctor which was a very wise thing to do. She told me to keep taking 1 Tbsp of coconut oil per day. I just wonder if I should take more than that since I have heard of other people have been able to go off the thyroid meds when taking 2 Tbsp per day. She is also treating me for Adrenal Fatigue and cervical dysplaisia and fibrocystic breasts. I guess I'm a mess right now and just want to be well again. I am a big fan of the coconut oil because it is the one remedy that has made the most difference for me. Also I want to add that the doc specified I should use the solid coconut oil instead of the capsules which I started out on because she said that way you can tell if it has gone rancid. But I still use the capsules for backcountry trips and road trips for convenience.

If anyone knows a way to bring back the sex drive I would be grateful."

As we add the coconut oil to our diet, our brains may find greater balance and we feel the soothing nature of the unctuos coconut oil internally as well as externally. This all happened when I recently took only 1 TBS of Coconut oil per day for 2 days and then started my cycle without the usual 4 aspirin headache...my cycle was so peaceful. I felt so quiet and easy throughout my body; there was no struggle to have my normal cycle."

Most people the fog starts to clear in about 4 hours.
It will also help your memory.

It is a cheap fix that the Dr. will not tell you about as it is not approved by the Medical Board.

Try it it works great.

If you take it everyday you will also lose weight.

If you have a question e-mail me."

BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS

[BETTER BUT WITH SIDE EFFECTS]  02/28/2009: Pam from Pittsburgh, PA writes: "I tried inhaling 3% hydrogen peroxide today for chronic brain fog and headaches. I emptied a nasal spray and poured the 3% hp that I bought at the local grocery store. I sprayed 5 sprays in the back of my throat while breating in. It burned my throat a little and the taste made me gag but I noticed a small decrease in the amount of brain fog that I am experiencing. I think I may have done too much too soon though because 2 hours later I did the same amount and again 2 more hours later. I felt very fatigued and needed to sleep. Has this happened to anyone else? Also, when you spray it to the back of your throat, do you also swallow it? I just ordered 35% HP on the internet and plan to dillute it... maybe it will taste a little better and won't hurt my stomach as much?"

[YEA]  09/15/2007: Jonna from Los Angeles writes: "Lately I have been having a hell of a time with digestive issues. Not sure what is going on -- it may be that I am eating way too much hormone injected chicken and turkey now that I moved in with my partner, who has to eat meat at least once a day or he gets sick. On the other hand, I ate a Trader Joe's garlic naan last week at home with a homemade curry and woke up to extreme abdominal pain and brain fog. Second time that happened with the naan, will have to check the ingredients next time I go. So perhaps I am allergic to wheat now. I don't know. At any rate, after a week of snail's pace recovery with Apple Cider Vinegar and Baking Soda, molasses, etc., I decided to a) eat vegetarian and b) do Bill Munro's h202 inhalation therapy. I started the peroxide therapy yesterday at about noon. By 8pm the brain fog that I have had for a week disappeared. This morning, exactly 24 hours later, my digestive tract finally feels back to normal. No more abdominal pain. I did 6 pumps of 3% h202 (drugstore brand) every 2- 3 hours. I think eating only rice and vegetables the last few days was helpful too. Yahoo!"

Replies
10/11/2007: Joyce from Joelton, Tn replies: "Hi Jonna, don't give up on the wheat yet! If you are eating bleached flour bread, try going to l00% whole wheat bread. If the problem decreases, then work on eliminating all bleached flour products, and this takes some thought because a lot of noodles, pastas, thickening in soups, dressings, sauces, saltine crackers contain bleached flour. Also, before you give up on eating chicken and turkey, read the ingredients on the package (even on the raw chicken that you have to take home and cook). If it lists chicken broth, natural flavors or natural flavoring package contains monosodiumglutamate."

MULTIPLE REMEDIES

It also improved my ability to pronunce words. I wish I had this back in the 6th grade... I would also say I am on a green diet. Lemongrass and Lemon Myrtle both contain Citral. Lemon Myrtle (90-98%) Lemongrass (65-85%). Citral also has strong antimicrobial qualities. Side effects I don't know.

When I was a little kid I had a bad twitch with my eyes, mouth and my neck and in the 60's the doc's didn't know why I did it. Growing up I always struggled with english and spelling. I now think that from a young age my body has been dealing with some type of infection and now that I'm in my forties I find myself with a much better clarity of thought."

OIL PULLING

[YEA]  01/25/2009: Burton from Portland, Oregon writes: "I read about oil pulling on this site and decided to try it, though i wasn't aware of any real health problems. I only had olive oil in the house so I went with that for 3 or 4 days and did the neti pot nasal flush afterward each time. I used a tablespoon of oil and swished for 15 minutes, rinsing afterward with 1/2 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. baking soda in warm water. Throughout the course of those four days I noticed a startling mood elevation and mental clarity that I hadn't had in a very long time. I also noticed alot of sinus drainage and my ability to smell increased. Also my eyes stopped feeling itchy or dry. I switched over to sesame oil because it was recommended, but have since switched back to olive oil and experienced the same mood elevation and mental clarity. This has made me wonder if I was suffering from low-grade depression the whole time. I feel much calmer and focussed, less confused and find alot more reasons to laugh during the day. I also have a TON more energy and work much harder. This energy caused me to have some problems sleeping for the first few days. One last thing is that my beard seems to have gotten much thicker and softer. I'm excited about such a cheap and simple remedy and would recommend it to everyone."

Many diseases can lead to brain fog. Candida, Staph, poor digestion problems. The first thing to test though, is a B-complex vitamin. Sometimes miraculous results can be produced in a day or two (if brainfog hasn't been a chronic condition).

Here is a discussion of sub-cortical dimensia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dementia

This can be caused by b-1,b-12, folic acid deficiencies. Other b-vitamin deficiencies can also lead to brain fog. As a b-vitamin is water soluble, safe, and cheap($5)... if you have brain fog, it may be worth while picking up a bottle and testing this out. It might change your life, or at least buy you some time to figure out the underlying cause."

I have struggled with chronic brain fog for 10 years and have not figured it out. I am on anti ds as I have had two major depressive episodes, but I don't believe the fog is because of the depression, I think I have developed depression because I have not been able to live my life or succeed at anything. I have had a few tests done, but am wondering exactly what test I need my doctor to help me get, or who I need to see or what I have to do to find out the source of my problem. I have no other health issues and am very healthy other than the constant, exhausting brain fog. What should I do, I cannot live like this any longer. Thank you - Jessica"

Chronic brain frogs are usually a sign of a chronic infection ( protozoal or bacterial). You have to do a stool test for ova and parasites and some tests for Lime disease and other bacterial infections."
02/06/2011: Bess from Calgary, Alberta, Canada replies: "Hi Jessica - I have heard that your brain consumes 25% of your energy so, in order to get rid of brain fog, you need to ensure you are "feeding" your brain what it needs - high-quality protein, omega-3 oils (like fish oil), proper intake of vitamins/minerals (especially a B-complex, but also Vitamin D, etc. ), exercise, limit stress (easier said than done! ), get the right amount of quality sleep, cut back on sugar, caffeine, alcohol, etc. , be social/interactive with others, challenge your brain - do puzzles, read, learn something new, stay away from TV as much as possible. Cut back on grains and white flour to see if you feel better without them. Also, there are people trained in biofeedback which is supposed to help those with brain fog (check with alternative health care providers). Check the Internet for a list of side effects from the anti-depressants you are on. My sister-in-law had constant brain fog until she found out it was from her medication. Her doctor decided to wean her from the pills and recommended several books to help her handle her depression (two which helped - although there are many, many others - are The Mindful Way Through Depression - Freeing Yourself from Chronic Unhappiness (Mark Williams) and The Depression Cure - The 6-Step Program to Beat Depression Without Drugs (Stephen Ilardi) - get them from the library to see if they help you. Last - but not least - drink plenty of quality water with a bit of sea salt in it (1/4 teaspoon sea salt in each litre of water). Good luck, Jessica - I hope you find the right combination that helps you get rid of this problem."
05/01/2011: Jordan from Kansas City, Missouri replies: "Jessica:

You may have candida. I would try eating raw garlic. Garlic has anti-microbial properties. If that either exacerbates or alleviates the symptoms, that means the garlic is working. Look into related treatments."

Slightly better since I started taking B Complex every other day, Fish Oil and supplements to help with adrenal fatigue. However, even with all this, I am suffering from MAJOR memory loss. My short term memory is none existent. This is affecting my every day life, and my job. I cannot recall things that I have done 30 minutes ago. I find myself writing everything down. This is quite scary, being that I am only 35 and always had good memory. I hope that you are able to provide some advice. Just so that you know, I am also taking ACV and BSM (for fibroids).

Many thanks in advance."

I know my own problems really exploded after I had my son. I used to joke that he took my brains out with him as he was born, but as time went on it was no laughing matter. I remember the horrifying moment when I realized I suddenly couldn't recall my own birth date! And I had always been "the sharpest tool in the shed", so to speak. It was devastating to realize my mental functioning was steadily eroding and I had no idea why. I have actually since seen posters in doctor's offices describing these things and noting that they could seem similar to degenerative brain problems like Alzheimer's but were actually thyroid problems. Also, thyroid disorders can cause skin problems like you're having.

Now I certainly don't know if this is what you have or if an epidural could indeed cause such problems for so long; it's just something you might want to look into with a simple blood test. Don't let them only go by a TSH test. Insist they test FREE T3 and FREE T4 as well, then get those lab figures and research them yourself online at thyroid forums (don't take the doctor's word for "normal").

As for the pain at the epidural spot, I could feel sensation there for YEARS after having it done (my epi guy was the pits; I also had to have the 'blood patch' injection into my spine 2 days later thanks to him, but that's a whine for another day ;)). I think that just may take a really long time to fully heal, or maybe the body makes a very strong memory of it as we are just not supposed to have our spines punctured!

Sending best wishes for your wellness. Please let us know how it turns out."

If I were you, I think I would request a copy of my hospital record of this delivery. I am wondering what they gave you in that epidural! Were you mentally aware of all going on throughout the labor & delivery or do you have blanks for part of that time? If so, was any family member with you that can tell you about any unusual occurence? The pain at site of injection can be explained by an unusual traumatic arthritis type paid but you should not be having brain fog 7 months post delivery and loss of short term memory!

My son tells me he heard on the news a few months back that Alzheimers is hitting people in their 30's. That was after I was reading in the local newspapers that it was much more prevalent and hitting at a younger age in people without any genetic predisposition. However the one they went into detail about was a female bank executive who had been on disability for 3 years at age 52 because of Alzheimers. We all need to start paying more attention to what we are putting into our bodies! Matter of fact we should have been paying it more attention 30 or 40 years ago. Was just reading about damage to our bodies from the well known sodium benzoate preservative found in most carbonated beverages and a whole lot of our foods of all kinds (processed that is)."

Still suffering from short term memory. This is making me feel really down since I have to contanstly question myself if I did something or not, I can't recall anything. I am still taking the ACV, Magnesium and fish oil. I had myself checked and have been told I don't have any thyroid issues, etc. that everything is fine. I tried to take the extra virgin coconut oil, but it makes my face breakout. Haven't had much success with the oil pulling either. Don't know what else to do. Perhaps someone there is able to help me? I feel as If I already have Alzheimer's...

Just wanted to thank T from Maryland and Joyce from Joelton for their good wishes."

06/13/2009: Sangeetha from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands replies: "Hi Mariela

Maybe you did have slight brain fog before the epidural but it was so little that you didn't notice? If there is any chance of that, check on what you eat. Had you changed some of your food items/brand a few days/weeks beofre you delivered your baby and you have continued to use it until now? There may be some food that is affecting your central nervous system which is causing brain fog. I suffered from brain fog recently and fortunately (but after spending quite a bit of my and insurance money at the doctors) realised that the cause of my problem was Canola Oil. if this is not the case, do your research on epidural. Also do some kind of yoga where you have to put your head down (like the shoulder stand or something) which will reverse the blood flow and send the blood to brain. This will require patience as it would not work overnight. I totally understand what you are going through and sympathise with you. If you somehow find a way to take VCO, that should cure your problem in 2 weeks. Wish you good luck."

I have had success taking an amino acid combination: L-Arginine/L. Ornithine. I read that they absorb the toxins and I have relief from the brain fog within 1/2 hour. I take one capsule, 1000 mg on an empty stomach. Also, I have had good results with a molybdenum 120 mcg & Glutathione 50 mg complex, sublingual tablet. However, I use the amino acid combo more often, because it is easier to find online or in my local health food store."
