Nose Breathing

[YEA] 09/29/2007: Victoria Shepard from Santa Barbara, CA: "Nose breathing reduced my asthma-like symptoms considerably. About 8 years ago I was diagnosed with allergy related asthma. I ignored the symptoms for about 6 years as they were mild. They worsened, and I had to use an inhaler every day to control the coughing. This year, I noticed that when I laughed, sang, yelled or became stressed, talked too much (I am a teacher), I would cough. I knew my doctor would just give me more asthma drugs, so I began to research alternative treatments on the internet. I came up with the Buyteko program which requires an hour a day of breathing exercises and changing to nose breathing from mouth breathing. As I do not have an hour a day to practice specialized breathing exercises, I utilized what I could: In June of this year (2007), I became a nose breather. It was tricky at first. I had to learn to shorten my sentences and inhale only through my nose. I naturally exhale through my mouth slowly as I speak. This is okay. No deep breathes in or out through the mouth. No deep breathes in through the nose either. To prevent mouth breathing at night, in accordance with the Buyteko program, I tape my mouth with cheap masking tape. It took 3 months, but I have no asthma-like symptoms. I can laugh, shout, get excited or stresed and sing.
It has been over a months since I have used an inhaler. "
Oil Pulling

05/13/2012: Curiousman from Valpo, In, Usa: "Hi I have been using Seaseme oil for the past 2 days as follows: When I wake up, before lunch, and before dinner. I take a tablespoon full and swish for 20mins. Along with that I take 2 tablespoons of ACV as a shot before breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
So far I haven't seen much change, but it's only been 2 days. I do them both 3x a day to speed process! I want to experience the detox of throwing up mucus, coughing it up, etc. so then I know it's working.
Anyone have positive feedback on these products for borderline asthma? Or which oils are better to use with more dramatic results? Because I read of people getting immediate results from both these products... What am I doing wrong?"
[YEA] 11/25/2010: Marc from Cranston, Ri: "Oil Pulling is helping to cure my asthma. Previous to OP I was unable to run without tight congestion in my chest. The OP in my opinion is curing my asthma and I am now able to run without or very little asthma symptoms. I also noticed healthier gums, and whiter teeth! Thank You!"
[NAY] 05/18/2008: Robert B from Manhattan, New York: "Oil Pulling for Asthma.. I have been oil pulling on & off for the past year. I haven't noticed any change in my asthma but have noticed whiter teeth. Has anyone any more info on this Dr. Karach? Does he exist? & why hasn't he responded to this site? Many repeat this one source of text as absolute truth. Not to discredit many of the anecdotal claims here, though I believe some skepticism is actually healthy. One can fill a stadium with nonsense...& vast numbers of people repeating the same untruth won't change it to true."
[YEA] 03/18/2007: Dan from Sacramento, CA: "About two weeks ago I was taking my inhaler about twice a day (two puffs total since I don't like using the inhaler in the first place). Then I started Oil-Pulling. You can draw your own conclusions. But all I can say is that the very next day I stopped having to use my inhaler. I didn't experience an immediate throwing-up of mucus. But what I did experience is a gradual coughing-up of mucus all throughout the day. Another thing that I've experienced at least twice is what happens if my chest becomes tight. Usually when my chest tightens it'll stay that way and gradually get worse until I take my inhaler.
What I'm seeing is that when my chest tightens , I'll go through maybe a three hour period where I'll slowly begin to cough-up mucus until my chest is clear again. I have NEVER experienced my chest clearing-up all by itself after it has tightened. I've ALWAYS had to take medicine in order to get relief. During that time, my nose was stuffed a lot of the time. Since I've been OP-ing, it hasn't been. I can only conclude that it must due to the Oil-Pulling."
[YEA] 02/06/2007: Mary from Nevada City, CA: "This winter my asthma came back - but not quite as badly as last year. I came back to your site and found oil pulling. What an amazing thig! I was waking up each night needing to cough - but the oil pulling allowed me to cough up mucus in a gentle way - I have been doing the oil for 3-4 weeks and the progress has been steady. Interestingly, I felt the oil pulling clear my sinuses fist - and I didn't think I really had a problem with that. The lungs have been more gradual - but there is definite progress and I don't need the inhaler unless I exercise too hard. The oil pulling was creating such a cleanse in me that in the first week i was feeling very tired and out of sorts. The I decided to do ACV -that was like a miracle - I was no longer tired. My feeling is that the oil pulling pulls toxins out from deeply stored areas of the body - but once the toxins are circulating - the ACV helps to flush them out. The same thing thing happened for my daughter... A side benefit of the ACV is that my blood pressure went down more than 20 points. I do think the ACV is also helpful for the asthma - I also find it very hlpful to take 1 teaspoon of turmeric in a bit of hot water or coffee each morning - with milk and honey to taste - this also helps the asthma very much - and I hope it will help create a longer ter cure."
[YEA] 11/06/2006: Shakti from Chicago, IL: "Please post this where asthma sufferers can view it, this is important because I had a hard time finding a cure for asthma on your site but thank God I did. I began a regimen of oil pulling shortly after a lingering cold went to my lungs, I just couldn't get rid of the mucus. I prayed for relief. It got even worse after a chemical pesticide was sprayed in my home for pest control. The next day after the extermination I had the worst attack of my life, I couldn't stand it anymore, so after 10 years of not having to put any poison into my lungs I had to once again use an inhaler to control the attacks. After the second night of waking up feeling side effects of nervousness anxiety and panic I decided enough was enough. I went to the computer in the middle of the night and began hours of research to find a natural cure. That's how I found this miracle of a web site. The next day I went out a purchased some sesame oil and took one table spoon 3x a day at the onset of my asthma attack and Immediately after the very first dose the mucus expelled out of my longs, and within 10 minutes what had plagued me for over 10 years was no more. Since then If I have any tightening in my chest or shortness of breath I IMMEDIATELY do the oil pulling and the problem subsides in 10 minutes or less. ~~~Oh I'd be remiss if I did not mention the side effect, I took oil pulling for Bronchial Asthma but as a result I got a dazzling white smile, sinus relief, not to mention it remarkably helped to subside my symptoms PMS all unexpected but welcomed side effects. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! P.S. thanks my husband thanks you too, lol."
Replies01/02/2013: Anonymouscat from La, Ca replies: "I'm been doing oil pulling ( oil and 3 drop Thyme oil mixed in) for few days, my breathing is better. Now I'm thinking that since all root canals leak infection supposedly. Perhaps the shortness of breath is due to this issue. I'm seeing a holistic dentist next week to discuss having them removed and redone the correct way."
Old Timers' Remedy

[YEA] 11/11/2007: Joyce from Joelton, Tn: "I'll share a little funny about my home remedy collecting. Talking with my uncle one day, when in my teens, and he told me that one of my great aunts used to dry "dog balls" and chew them to relieve her asthma. I was aghast and said: "Uncle Byn", surely you don't mean she killed a poor little dog just to get his testicles for her asthma!" He then tried to delicately explain to me that she followed the dog around on frosty mornings and picked up his "droppings" to dehydrate until she needed them to chew for her asthma. I was still aghast, but relieved that she wasn't killing the poor dogs. This is one remedy I am not likely to try, nor recommend to anyone else. However in reading the history of medicine, I read that they first found the miracle antibiotic (well it was at that time) aureomycin, in the white part of chicken of chicken manure underneath the chicken roost. I then thought of the old folks remedy of standing the child in front of the henhouse door and lettiing the hens fly over their heads for the chickenpox. I seriously doubt that it had any effect other than placebo though."

[YEA] 03/05/2013: Lou from Tyler, Tx: "Has anyone tried pycnogenol for asthma? Look up the health benefits. I believe it works well. Tried it for a while. I am going back on it soon."
Replies03/06/2013: Rob from Manhattan, Ny replies: "Pycnogenol is one of my favorite supplements.. Unfortunately it is a little pricey. Quercetin

[YEA] 01/19/2006: Paul from Morrisville, PA: "I have used a quercetin with bromelain supplement to eliminate my daily use of inhalers and singulair in order to breathe. One needs to take very high doses of quercetin when initially weaning themself off the medications (it's almost impossible to take too much quercetin - it's extremely non-toxic and safe). After a few weeks, a lower - and much more affordable - maintenance dose can be taken each day with no side effects or worries. This is not a true cure, but it is one natural way to manage asthma. A good holistic doc may help with finding a cure depending on the particular cause for each individual - whether it be a yeast problem, allergies, adrenal problem, Wilson's syndrome, etc"
EC: Quercetin belongs to a class of water-soluble plant pigments called flavonoids. Quercetin acts as an antihistamine and has anti-inflammatory properties. Quercetin can be found in onions, apples, green tea, and black tea. Smaller amounts are found in leafy green vegetables and beans.

[YEA] 12/07/2007: T.S.Rajah from Wimbledon, UK: "For relief from Asthma, put the radish, honey and lemon juice and the blender. Mix for 20 minutes and then put in the pan in the stove low heat and take one teaspoon in the morning everyday."
Replies[YEA] 02/02/2009: Mary from Valdosta, Ga replies: "I have been using radish and lemon. I just cut up 4 red ball looking radish and peel one lemon and put them into a blender for a while, at least 6 minutes making sure it is smooth. I then cook it on the low setting. It is wonderful. I still have to take it 3 times a day or so. No coughing, no wheezing, etc. I will try adding honey to it. I keep the mixture in a tupperware container in the refrigerator. I feel good and I am back to drinking good 'ole Southern Sweet tea."

05/17/2012: Curiousman from Valpo, In, Usa: "I need a very effective remedy for this I am in desperate need. I've been oil pulling and taking 1tablespoon ACV before every meal. The heartburn is less, but I still have a little shortness of breath."
01/09/2012: Sweetberry from New York: "Hi to all I am first time user was diagnosed for chronic asthma as teenager. Now after 30 years of meds not helping, I found this site. I need guidance. I bought today 3 percent hp and put in nebulizer but did not help- it made me shortness of breath. I now take maxair 3x day and now I need it more every 2-3 hours. Should I continue the hp? Oh I need help- what am I doing wrong? or should I just continue.
I am healthy but need to get over this so called fake asthma which the drug is keeping me. None of my 9 children have asthma nor my dad or mom or sisters or brothers how can I best get rid of this? I eat garlic on and off don't consume oil, take vitamin d, lemon will bring up stuff and will need neb xopnex which will help for 4 hours and after a week will get fever and must quit. The sleep is the main problem when I lay if I sleep on couch three days, asthma is very, very moderate.
Oh please someone help- the dr says I have 2 points asthma on scale of 1-10 but the drugs kill me it, robs my deep concentration and after the dose is over the mucus is trying to choke me and I must be choked hours till I take the next dose till it doesn't work more. It's fake- the med makes you have to be addicted to it help, help!!!!! Thanks
P.S. Can it be the short breath is from my lot of pressure that I have and not from asthma. If I go to dr he will give me drugs for heart or stress- why not please help"
Replies01/09/2012: Debbie from Melbourne, Australia replies: "Sweetberry I did read somewhere that asthma is caused by a magnesium deficiency and that the inhalers you take for it depletes the body of magnesium... Maybe start some research on that. The best/quickest way to get magnesium into you is transdermally (via skin). Magnesiumforlife. com is a good place for you to start reading."
01/12/2012: Maria from Gippsland, Australia replies: "Hi Sweetberry, In addition to the Mg that Debbie suggested have a look at Vit A plus the herbs Japanese Menthol and Tulsi. I used to be on very high doses of asthma meds, 3 different ones. One was so high the prescribing Dr had to first get permission from a Government department! About halfway down the page is what I did and posted on http://www.earthclinic.com/CURES/asthma5.htmlPlus have a read of other folk success stories. When you find what works for you please post your results. All the best."
03/27/2012: Oregon from Bend, Or replies: "Sweetberry: I have tried many different methods to help my asthma with not much success. But I started taking a statin (generic) about 1 month ago. I read about how they are helping copd/asthma patients. I know they have side effects. But in my case I was willing to try it anyway. I now take one 10mg of a generic leukotriene antagonists AND "1" 40mg of a generic statin in the evening with food. My asthma is almost completely resolved! Make sure you read about the side effects. Do a search for "generics" for statins and leukotriene angtagonist. I am sorry that my only solution is more drugs. But this combo has done it for me."
