For the bigger ants I could put out borax and sugar water bait trays which were effective at getting rid of them. These newer and smaller ants seem oblivious to borax and sugar water. So instead of that, I decided to lightly spray these tiny ants with just borax water and let them take it home. If you spray them too much at one time they may die and not be able to take it home. So lightly spraying them seemed useful. The 3 ounce spray bottle seems to make a finer spray which makes it easier to spray them lightly compared to larger spray bottles.
This seems to have worked well over a period of about a week. I would just spray the ants that I could see each day for a week. At first there were a lot of ants in the first three days, but I noticed that each day there would be less ants than the previous day and by the end of one week, the ants appear to be gone.
When I would spray them lightly, they would either slow way down or stop and then after a few minutes they would start moving slowly again. Each day there would be less ants and the ones that did show up, seemed even smaller.
So I just used a 3 ounce spray bottle from Walmart, add a rounded 1/8th teaspoon of borax and 3 ounces of hot tap water to the bottle and shake until fully dissolved. Anytime I saw the ants I would spray them with the borax water and they slowly disappeared. It may have worked faster had I used a 1/4 teaspoon of Borax, but I didn't want to risk the borax crystalizing and permanently clog the sprayer.
In total I used less than two bottles of this spray or less than 6 ounces to get rid of these tiny ants and it is less toxic than pesticide sprays and safer to use around the kitchen too.
