Diet Restrictions for Cystic Fibrosis

The book The pH Miracle states the following foods are the worst offenders for creating mucus: dairy products, animal protein, white flour, processed foods, chocolate, coffee and alcoholic beverages. It also states vegetables do not cause the formation of sticky mucus.

I have noticed if I have dairy like milk or cheese pizza at night my nasal passages close up and mucus builds up in my lungs about 5 hours later. I then need to take CVS saline nasal spray and drink salt water (1/4 tsp table salt in 4 oz hot water) to be able to breathe normally.

Note: The RDA for sodium for an average adult is 1,300 mg with a tolerable upper limit (UL) intake per day of 2,300 mg. Sodium chloride (table salt) is approximately 40% sodium. One teaspoon of table salt = 2,300 mg sodium. Do not exceed one teaspoon of table salt over the course of a day.
