Chamomile

My son has had pink eye several times and we went thru a phase with no insurance so, my friend suggested very hot Chamomile tea bags pressed to the infected eye for 2-3 minutes 4x per day. Also, just a very hot compress is effective. The key is to catch the pink eye early on and use the compresses several times. You do have to be careful not to burn you cheeks. The heat of the compresses must kill the bacteria in the eyes. Do this for 3-4 days and you should be pink eye free.

Colloidal Silver and Chamomile

Two of my children had pink-eye (conjunctivitis.) They woke up with goopy eyes. My 5 year old's eyelid was swollen and my 10 year old's eye was quite bloodshot. I treated both eyes for two days. I put colloidal silver, one drop, into each eye, morning and evening for two days. (Because it is highly contagious it is best to treat both eyes instead of just the one that looks bad.)

Because the eyes looked so irritated, I made chamomile poultices for the eyes. I took dry chamomile flowers and put some in a tiny bowl. I boiled water and covered the flowers with it, just to moisten. I took several clean small squares of cut up white t-shirt (that I keep on hand for all sorts of medical applications.) I put a little bit of the flowers into each square and folded over the edges. It was kind of like a fancy tea bag. A store bought chamomile tea bag could be used, but I didn't have any. I had both children lay down and put the cloth covered flowers over the closed eyes. (I waited until they were warm but not hot.) I set a timer for 10 minutes, during which time they kept the chamomile poultices on they closed eyes. (It was nice and quiet expect they kept asking how many more minutes! :) ) Then they tossed their "tea bags" and had a lot of relief. I did this twice a day and the silver twice a day, for two days. (I believe Dave recommends silver in the eyes no more than for two days?)

Usually I use charcoal water for pinkeye. I keep some in a dropper bottle. But I couldn't find it and decided to try this. I like to know about lots of different ways to treat the same problem. You never know what you will have available.

I would use Boric Acid for my kids when they were little and had pink eye. It was a remedy my Mother In Law told me about that she would use on her kids. It always worked. I would get it from the Pharmacist behind the counter. I don't know if you can still buy it or not.

You drop the colloidal silver right in your eye? Does it sting?

Colloidal Silver

hi, I have a 14 month old baby with pink eye, I am spraying colloidal silver on 2 cotton pads then gently wiping over each eye. Do you think this will work as putting a drop into her eye will not be easy. Also should I only use it for 2 days? Thank you.

Having 10 children, I have run into pink eye occasionally and find it annoying at best. We don't have a coloidal silver maker, so I just buy it at the health food store. I pour some in a plastic spoon and put the affected eye into the liquid to sit for a few moments. It feels soothing right away. We do this every hour or so for the first day, and three times per day after that until it is gone. We have never had to use it more than two days.

Breast Milk

My two year old daughter had goopy eyes for 3-4 days, but because there was no redness, I left it go and it went away. This is why when my son got goopy eyes, followed by redness, I thought maybe it would go away too. It did not and after three days it looked much worse and swollen. When I read this post, I just laughed, but it was an option for me as I still breastfed my son (7 months old), who had pink eye. So I thought I'd try it! I squirted some in his eye the next time he ate (right after "let down") and immediately noticed a little relief in the redness. I have done it three times a day for 2 1/2 days now and can't believe the power of the breast milk! It is obviously not painful for my son and his eye just has a tiny bit of pink left! (I did the other eye every other time to ward off infection). Thank you so much for such an easy remedy!

When my 7 month old came down with pink eye from a toy at wal mart, I was searching everywhere on how to clear it up and i found several different ways but i was looking for something that wouldn't harm a baby. Then i found the lemon juice and the tea bags so while she was sleeping i cleaned all the crust off her eyes and put the lemon juice diluted with warm water of course on her eye and then put the tea bags on her eyes and when she woke up 5 minutes later she was perfectly fine

Activated Charcoal

I have used activated charcoal for many things over the years, and although the charcoal slurry drops can sometimes work for eye infections, I have found that colloidal silver is much quicker and has worked every time for every kind of eye irritation or infection, chilld or adult. 1 or 2 drops in the eyes a few times a day.

I use breast milk for everyone in my house for eye infections and ear infections. Antibiotic drops were not clearing up eye infections because they were viral. Now, I just use an eye dropper with expressed breast milk several times a day, and the symptoms disappear!

My daughter had mucous in the eyes as an infant. Doctor prescribed drops and massage, but the problem persisted. Someone suggested breastmilk and I applied to her eyes and it cleared up never to reoccur.

My midwife recommended I try breast milk when my newborn had gloopy eyes. It worked! The problem cleared up within a couple of days and did not return.

Yes, tea bags work for pink eye and work very well on infants. My son had pink eye when he was 8 months old or less, and I put tea drops from black tea bags in his eye, and it worked the same day. I kept on it a few days after to make sure.

re: Mucous in baby's eye. Breastmilk expressed directly on the eye area immediately dissolves the mucous painlessly. Rather than using a warm wet cloth (as recommended by many) I followed an old folk remedy and it worked beautifully!

This is a well-known cure for eye infections, whether it's pink eye or the clogged tear ducts so common in infants. Breastmilk is anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. My son has pink eye--i wish i were still lactating! :)
