Day 5 of using ACV, yogurt and Acidophilus. My skin is looking so much better that I cancelled my appointment with the dermatologist for today. Can anyone recommend a moisturizer to use though? The skin under my nose is very dry and peeling, but looks so much better underneath. Such a relief, I can't even tell you.

You should take a fresh aloya vera leaf and rub your face with it's juice. Twice a day.

Jill, you could try marigold cream. I find that it works quite well on chapped skin for example. Or else just try any kind of oil for a while and see what works best. I can think of Castor Oil, Avocado Oil, Jojoba, Rose, Almond, etc. I am sure something will work for you!

I have had PD for 6 going on 7 months now. I was on the ZNP Bar and Topicort for 3 and a half month. I stopped doing anything then my face got worse. Then I went back to the derm and he gave me Desonide 0.05% I used it for 2 or 3 weeks (can't remember) then I did research and realized how horrible steroids were for my face. I went off everything completely. I started using Virgin Coconut Oil for 2 weeks which made my face look better but I need something more radical.

I began taking ACV 3x a day in 8oz of water, 2 capsules of probotic (acidiphilous), 1 EFA (essential fatty acids-omega 3s, 6s, & 9s), and applying ACV topically twice a day. I started the ACV diluted then a week ago I began undiluting it. It has now been 4 weeks my face looks much better, but it still is really noticeable. A week ago I started using raw honey and it has greatly reduced the redness, but the papsules on my chin are still there and you can still see the PD. It is really bad near my nose, it is a crusty redness. It does look better, but it seems everyone gets relief within 2 weeks. I'm scared it is not working or I am doing too many things. I think I will stop taking the EFA's. I bought Biotin and will start taking it. I also bought some manuka honey. I am going to stop putting ACV on my face when I start using using the honey. I intend to keep it on all day long as well as through the night. I will continue taking the ACV 3x a day. I also bought SLS free toothpast and will see if that will help. Can any advice me. Should I stay with the manuka honey and ACV, but dilute it again? I am worried that doing all this is hurting me not helping.

The PD is under my eyes, above my eyelids, on my forehead, on my nose the sides, all around my mouth, and of course on chin I have papsules everywhere. I look like a clown. It looks better, but still it doesn't look as it is close to going away. It just seems extremely stubborn and I don't know if I should give it more time or what. I go back to school in 2 weeks and I am losing hope. I really don't want to go back with my clown face.

to Shahin25: I've been suffering from POD for about 5 months now and I also have to get back to college in a couple weeks so I definitely know how you feel.

I haven't tried honey so I don't know how to use it/if it's good to use it but the best advice I can give is to keep using the ACV. If you have sensitive skin like me, use 5 parts water, 1 part ACV and use it as a toner 2x a day. Drinking it with a lot of water also is a good idea. Go back to your derm and ask him for a better topical (I'm using metronidazole for redness and am taking minocycline orally 2x a day for the next 6 weeks. ) I think this and the ACV may help you.

The oral will knock out the bumps on your face, it did for me in about a week and a half. Use the ACV for redness as it seems to be helping you. I think you should do a combination of medicine and ACV to really help before school starts.

I hope things work out for you.

Hi I was so excited after reading all the yeas for acv, but unfortunetly it didnt work for me. I tried it for 2 day topically 2x-3x daily, and 2tlbs 1x a day with orange juice. The end of the 2nd day my pd was bright pink, and not diminishing. For the first day I was applying it neat, the second day I wet the cotton first- but its just making it worse. I filled my perscription of minocycline, and elidel. I've cut sugar, fruits, grains, starches, and yeasts from my diet, and hopefully when my pd calms down I will be able to continue with natural remedies. Thank you for this website- it helps so much to know that Im not alone in this.

Hi, I`ve been reading all these posts for a month now to try to find an answer to get rid of my POD. I`ve tried quite a number of things, but for now the ACV seems to work when I get the bumps, but my problem is that I cannot seem to get rid of the POD for good. I`ll go a couple of days with it cleared up and then out of no where the bumps return. I`m wondering if anyone can help me figure out what is causing the bumps to return. It`s been quite a roller coaster, thinking it`s going away only to have it return. I only have a couple of small spots on the line from the corner of my mouth to my nose, so I realize I`m very lucky not to have it worse and feel terrible for those with it really bad. I have tried to eliminate SLS from my shampoo and switched to nonfloride toothpaste. I have been using the ACV and applying presribed metrogel after it dries, twice per day. Also, I am heading to Florida in a couple of weeks on holiday and am stressing about the sun and my POD...any suggestions there would be great too!!

Applying AVC on the face, that will burn and irritate, and if you have itch the irritation would be more and cause so much redness, you should really dilute it. AVC great for the scalp, but for face..so so..

I also have been suffering off and on from Perioral dermatitis. I was using a steroid cream I had prescribed for something else. Big Mistake. I had to go through the 2 weeks of awful withdrawals, but luckily I had been warned how bad it would be from this site and similar ones. Definitely DELUTE the ACV and make sure you get the ORGANIC as well.

I mostly used this topically, as I find the 2 tbls really hard to drink, even with juice, BUT when I do it really helps out heart burn for like a week at a time just from one dose!:) I use ACV every other day at least. It will burn like heck at first, esp. on delicate skin-my was very bumpy, peely, and pink from withdrawal reaction.

What ever you do...quit your steroids. I was also on Flonase for my mild allergies; I thought back to when I first was prescribed that and it correlates to the first signs of my PD!

Best of luck- It has been about 5 weeks since I quit the cream and started using ACV and I have hardly any red left and only 1 or 2 tiny remnants of a bump. :)

2 more tips:
Crush up an aspirin and mix it into plain organic yogurt-on those bad days- make a soothing mask and relieves the swelling of the bumps a little.

And also rest your face in your clean hands with cold water in the sink. This seems to help a little as well.

WORKED TEMPORARILY

I found this forum and decided to try the ACV. At first my POD got red and irritated and then it seemed to be clearing up, at least looking better. I used the ACV twice a day for about a week. It started looking worse again, so i finally went to see the Dr. He prescribed me topical Metronidazole Gel. I have been using it for 6 days now and i'm not seeing any sign of it clearing up. It's very aggravating and dry. I put a call into the Dr. to try and get tetracycline. I'm glad the ACV worked for some and wish it had worked for me. Good luck to everyone dealing with POD.

I guess i have had this mouth rash problem for quite some time now but never admitted to having a problem. I blamed it on allergies. Now that i think about all the mornings i would make Green Tea and press the warm tea bag on my face. This helped temporarily, really just stopped the irritating feeling, never took away the discoloration. It has been 48 hours since i first used the ACV applied by a cotton ball (2 morning applications, 2 night applications) My face has not looked so good in years. I am 25 and have had this for about 8 years now. Wow am i happy i learned this trick from you guys. I will be starting my probiotic supplements when they get delivered and will be sure to try out the yogurt too. Thank you so much. If i could see you guys i would hug you :)

WORKED TEMPORARILY

I have been using the ACV for 3 weeks now and everything was fine until a few days ago my chin started getting irritated again. It is now bad like it used to be. Could i be immune to the ACV? It was working so wonderfully, i was so excited and now i am back to square one. Anyone have any suggestions?

Hello to Jenna from Philadelphia,

You say your rash has been around for 8 years now and you are a 25YO! My first question is do you use makeup, because most girls like to start using makeup around the age of l6 -l7. If so, it could still be an allergy or a reaction to makeup.

I suggest you leave off all makeup and all soap for several days to give your skin a chance to heal itself, if this is the case. Washing the face with a wash cloth soaked in vinegar to get all residue of soap & makeup off for the first day or two & see what happens. If you still have the rash, remember the dermatologist's rule of thumb:a (If it's wet dry it, if it's dry, wet it) and proceed accordingly. One of the most drying agents is good old magnesium sulfate (epsom salts) and I have had very good results with a saturated solution of apple cider vinegar and epsom salts. You make a saturated solution by dissolving the solid in the liquid until no more will dissolve. If the rash is wet or purulent, just knock the tops off and swab it out with the saturated solution of vinegar/epsom salts 3 or 4 times per day and they will soon dry up, if they're wet. If they're dry just use a good A&D vitamin ointment or moisturizing lotion on it.

Hi my name is Elijah and I have a question. I have dermatitis in my left hand for eleven years now. I have the apple cider vinegar for a different problem I am having with my appearance. My question is how do I apply it to my hand for best result, and being that I have had this disease this long can I expect to see results.

You can use glycerin which is cheap at the drug store. Mix with water 50% each. Apply thinly to face/neck as too much will make it feel sticky. Also I tried using Tom's of Maine Mint toothpaste, no fluoride. Cinnamon may cause flare ups or moisturizers for dry skin can actually make it worse. My 'expensive' department store moisturizer I just bought caused my last flare up. I am going back to the cheap stuff.

Hi, I think most people do experience dryness from apple cider vinegar and I use coconut oil for that. Also there are some good homeopathic creams- I also use a borage cream that helps to renew the skin cells instead of just covering up the dryness. Hope this helps!

I am just so delighted and amazed and I hope to have continued improvement. When I was sixteen I had PD and was put on prednisone and given the allergy tests. For months I had this embarrassing rash around my nose and mouth. At 43 I again started to get this rash that has not gone away despite all the normal medical recomendations. My life is very stressful and skin inflammation is one of the results of that. Praise God, because after putting the organic apple cider vinegar on my rash, it is starting to dissapear after 7 hours. I have spent so much money and time trying to get rid of this as it is such an awful rash. At first, it got itchy and red, but it is starting to feel better and I did not expect that the first day. Mine was an oozing, spreading rash that was starting to travel to my chin. I did the steroid route last time I had this, yes it helped short term, but perhaps that is why it came back 20 years later.

Thank you so much for helping me, all you friends you have suffered from PD. I will keep you informed about how this continues. Blessings, Chris

If you are reading this post - I'll save you some work. The cream she is talking about has 10% sulfur 1X + aloe. I'm not sure what the 1X means. But I'm assuming a sulfur may be very useful for our rashes!

Product she's talking about is still available, but it is extremely expensive and is full of crap ingredients I wouldn't put on my body

Hello Friends! I have used your site many times to look up remedies for common ailments, thank you for being here! Over the past 6 months, a rash has come and gone. It started after a nasty sinus infection and was limited to the areas just under my nostrils. I figured it was due to the sinus infection, but once the infection went away, the rash was still there. Then it added a few little spots at the end of my eyebrows. Slowly, it began to spread the the entire area around my nose and mouth, but not ever touching the lips. It would come and go and each time I would use a prescription steroid cream and it would seem to help a bit, but the rash keeps coming back more fierce than the last breakout. Finally, when this last flareup was so bad that I couldn't go out in public, I came here and read about ACV, have been using it topically and ingesting it, and it's working already. I have confidence that it will clear up in no time. This past weekend, my composite PH level was a shocking 6.0! My diet is 80-90% organic and I thought I was very healthy, I was surprised that I'm acidic. So HERE'S MY QUESTIONS: Is this perioral dermatitis? (I was basing the determination strictly on photos and descriptions I've found on the internet.) Is it related to my PH level? Is it possible it's the mites you write about? Will the ACV be enough? Should I add the Borax solution as well? Thanks again for being here, I refer to your website for every little thing that ails us! Keep up the great work!

Here is my 2 cents. I have had an ongoing rash on my cheeks on both sides of my nose for about a year off and on. I considered spices and alcohol as culprits but even stopping both completely did not solve the problem. I read about ACV here and had nothing to lose. 3 days of topical use and my face cleared right up. That was over a month ago. (I have added spice and alcohol back with no problems) And in case you are wondering about the drinking.. it is only maybe a bottle of vino per week. Also the ACV was not the mother" but regular store bought stuff that did leave a nice burn upon application. ONE MORE USE: 2 weeks ago bringing in wood for the fire. Something on the wood left an immediate skin rash on the left inner arm where I was carrying the wood. Red, bumps, itch..... ouch! I mixed up white vinegar with baking soda and applied and the itch left, the swelling went down and the rash was gone in 2 day.. 3 days later it reappeared and I reapplied just white vinegar and it is gone. Not sure what was on the wood.
