When my son had a boil, what seemed to help the most was swabbing the boil with apple cider vinegar (ACV) and then applying honey. I spread a layer of the honey on a light piece of cotton wool and stuck it on to the boil. You could also use a plaster to hold the cotton in place. This treatment caused the boil to quickly come to a head and start to drain. I continued the honey after it drained and became an open wound. Using ACV at that point was painful, so discontinued it, but the honey seemed to continue to help the healing process.
I tried other things like a baking soda paste (stung and didn't help as much as ACV/honey). A little dab of silver gel also seemed to help, but it just dried up the other boils I applied it to without draining. Not sure that was a good thing.
