There are five different types of psoriasis, plaque psoriasis being the most common. In plague psoriasis, skin will build up in silvery-white patches called plaques.
This will commonly occur on the knees and elbows, but can appear anywhere including the genitals. They can be limited to minor patches or exhibit massive body coverage. Build-up can also occur at the joints, causing inflammation; this is known as psoriatic arthritis. Psoriasis frequently affects fingernails and toenails, known as psoriatic nail dystrophy. As this disease is highly visible and unsightly, psoriasis can cause depression and reduce self-esteem.
