Seeking Help for Cat Ear Polyp (Non-Cancerous)

Posted By Rockel (Us) on 09/21/2016

Help! My cat Freya has a (non-cancerous) polyp in her ear and it is getting bigger. I am opting out of the surgery for this because it is very expensive and it reportedly often comes back. She currently gets steroid drops in her ear. The vet recommends 3-4 drops every day once a day but we usually do it every other day as I do not like using this on her and she is fine till the third day without it. I am hoping there is a more natural remedy out there for her that could eliminate it without going in surgically. I do not want it to get worse or spread. My poor baby has the ear flop and hair coming off her ear from damaged nerves from scratching too much. She and her sister are both long haired torties (her sister a diluted tortie) with allergies that give them yeast infections in their ears. The diluted tortie has much worse allergies. I only give them grain/poultry/careegenan/ dye/colorant free food. I dont know that using vinegar would be good for her since her ear is so sensitive already. Would castor oil help? I haven`t seen any posts on ear polyps specifically. Any help is greatly appreciated!

The wonderful Theresa from Minneapolis, MN has been helping pet owners and their beloved pets around the world on Earth Clinic since 2013.

About Theresa

Theresa from Minneapolis was born and raised in the inner city, always wishing she had been raised on a farm.

Her love for creatures great and small began at an early age, starting with caterpillars - which continues to this day, along with an interest in all insects and 'creepy crawlies'.

Theresa's interest in pet health started with a bird keeping hobby at age 14, where she learned from another hobbyist that the simple addition of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) in a bird's drinking water kept fungal infections away; she was able to share this with her avian vet who in turn prescribed it to her own clients; Theresa was surprised to learn that she could teach her vet a thing or two. This important lesson - that each of us can be a teacher - was a turning point for Theresa, and  fueled  her quest for the knowledge held in lore,  and remedies passed by word of mouth. That quest for knowledge continues to this day, as new and old remedies alike are explored. She may not have experience with a particular issue, but she will research it to the best of her ability and share what she finds freely, in the hopes that you can heal or improve your pet's health.

Hello Rockel,

Please read up on ear polyps/tumors/cancer:

http://www.vcahospitals.com/main/pet-health-information/article/animal-health/ear-tumors/255

Some approaches you may consider:

  • Cancer fighters
  • Essiac Tea - brewed and dosed orally or dried powder added to food
  • Turmeric - added to food
  • Chaga mushroom - added to food
  • Mix of Turmeric and Castor oil and/or baking soda made into a paste and packed in the ear
  • Inflammation remedies
  • Yucca - mixed with food
  • Quercetin - mixed with food

There may be other good anti-cancer remedies and anti-inflammatories- read through the EC pages on cancer and tumors for humans for more ideas, and for additional remedies to boost the immune system.

Also consider alkalizing the water with baking soda or borax for fungal fighting properties.

As you have found little on Earth Clinic for your pet's particular situation, please report back on your pioneering efforts to treat your pet.

Dealing with this now. Did you end up finding a treatment or did you do surgery?

Holistic vet is trying thuja homeopathic treatment, but I don't know how fast it's supposed to work.

Was also looking into pay d'arco but wanted to find more info.
