Help Needed for Persistent Burning Scalp with Hair Loss

Posted By Donette (Los Angeles, Ca) on 05/06/2017

Hi I've just signed up here. I'm hoping to get solutions for my burning very sensitive scalp. I also have hair loss. My Derm says the hair loss is due to skin lupus that was recently diagnosed, but the burning scalp remains.

In mid November of 2016, I applied some store bought aloe Vera gel to my hair. I put it on at night and sleep with it under a plastic cap. The next day at 4pm, my scalp starting burning very bad. It was increasing by the minute. I'd never felt anything like that before and I had to rush home and wash it out. I was going to an event for my son.

After I washed my hair I felt some relief, but it was still burning a little. The burning never went away so I went to my allergist. She prescribed Triamcinolone topical steroid, but the symptoms persisted. Then Flucinodide topical steroid, but that stung my scalp.

Then she referred me to a Dermatologist and they prescribed Betametasone topical steroid, but that stings as well.

I got so frustrated that I just use 800mg of Ibruprophen three times a day and that stops the burning. If I take the pill too late I feel the burning and that's how I know the problem hasn't gone away.

I wash my hair with Free and clear shampoo and conditioner without any burning, but when I use any of my previous hair products my hair burns very badly.

I don't put any kind of hair products in my hair, so it's extremely dry and brittle, plus I'm African American and my hair is more dry anyway. I even tried to put Vaseline in my hair and my scalp burned.

Prior to the Aloe Vera incident, I had been trying a lot of natural products and I believe I could have had a reaction build up from all those products. My dermatologist told me to check products in the fold of my arm before I try a product. I checked some of my old products to see what would happen. I was surprised that I had a reaction to almost all of them.

I just don't know what to do and I don't think my dermatologist does either. I do have patch testing for allergies next week. The Derm says he thinks I'm just allergic to so many things and my scalp is reacting. I just don't know if there are going to be any products that I can use. I do know I'm allergic ragweed, pollen, grass, and trees. Therefore I can't do home remedies with chamomile, enchinaea.

Plus I'm loosing hair. I wonder if I can do something internal. The problem is my scalp is so inflammed that's its reacting to everything ie. Vaseline. Derm says he never met anyone allergic to Vaseline, it's just the inflammation.

Sometimes the medical doctors cures don't work. I remember going back and forth. Back and forth to the doctor trying to heal a bee sting. They had me on topical steroids and prednisone and nothing helped. I put toothpaste on it and it healed in two days. The Floride did it. That's why I believe their is a natural cure for my scalp, I just need help figuring it out. I would really appreciate your help. I've never been through any thing like this. I can't even sleep on my head at night due to the pain and throbbing. I sleep on a book with a folded towel over it, so my head hangs over it.

Thanks,

Donette

Hi Donette,

My hair and scalp has put me through the mill these last few years, but not burning. So I have no suggestion for that.

In order to get any positive response from my hair I have to lay low on the sweet eats. When I keep my ph balanced my scalp feels calm. You can do that by drinking Teds ph remedies.

This past year I have only washed my hair with borax or baking soda water or, I would put a little powered MSM in my conditioner and wash my hair with that. No soap, no shampoo.

This year I have tried some different supplements and something is helping me. Whereas before my hair would only get length on the sides, it has now began to grow on the top of my head in the slow and bald areas. I don't know for sure what is helping, but these are taken by mouth: Essiac Tea, fresh Aloe Vera drink, K2 Vitamin, and NAC supplement.

Never give up, always pray.

Once again greetings Donette,

I took a run through Earth Clinic's "Recent Post" and was led to Earth Clinic's section on Scalp infections. Midway down On page 2 there are quite a few suggestions for curing burning scalp. Here is the bar. https://www.earthclinic.com/cures/scalp_infections2.html#bshl_121543
