Remedies for 6 Year Old Daughter With Scalp Infection?

Posted By Ltowne (Massachusetts) on 06/17/2015

I know nothing about this condition but my 6 year old daughter seems to be struggling with it, I don't know how to make sure I'm not hurting her. I don't want to use chemical treatments which I have tried and seem to work but only for a day or two. Lately I have been using the baking soda mix with water and then olive oil to soften it (combing gently to remove any thick scabs), and then using tea tree shampoo to wash everything out about an hour later.

It looks so sore :( . Even though I'm gentle she has spots that bleed, I almost would rather leave it alone, anyone with advice on how to help her is appreciated.

It used to be a single spot since she was a baby but lately its spreading. The doctor did not seem concerned and had no recommendations.

EC: Dear Ltowne,

We're not sure what condition you are referring to and have thus put your post on the Scalp Infection page. Please let us know if you are referring to a different condition.

Hello Ltowne,

Re your 6 year old's scalp condition

Your description would suggest that it is acting like an infection. If mine, I'd give her a topical soaking of colloidal silver...just allowing the liquid to dry in the scalp and hair. I'd try a few times and if it seemed to help would continue repeating.

You didn't mention if there were indications that the infection, if that's what it is, is effecting her elsewhere. If so I'd give the CS orally allowing for weight. A grown adult might take two tablespoons three times daily. So obviously a lot less for a child.

I use lots of stuff for infection. One of my favs is Echinacea. But that might be too strong for a child's scalp.
