Modified on Nov 05, 2023 | Earth Clinic Team

You can find fungus everywhere in both indoor and outdoor environments, and half of these fungi can threaten our health. If you find yourself dealing with a fungal infection, many complementary and alternative remedies exist for fungal infection treatment. These home remedies can kill off the yeast or bacteria causing the fungal infections while reducing symptoms of the infection in the skin, lungs, sinuses, eyes, and other organs.

Exposure to fungus, mold, and other allergens can cause out of control immune system reactions in your body, the symptoms of which can include pain, headache, fevers, mucus production in the sinuses and/or lungs, and may in some cases may lead to death. More common symptoms include a fungal rash on the skin or some mild respiratory distress. More serious fungal infections include fungal pneumonia, fungal sinusitis, aspergillosis, fungal meningitis, and systemic candida albicans infections.

Natural Remedies for Fungal Infections

Coconut Oil

Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, while a more expensive oil than some, is an inexpensive medicine, in the scheme of things. The price of a large tub of coconut oil is cheaper than a small tube of an over the counter anti-fungal remedy! Coconut oil can be massaged into any area of the skin that has fungus. It is safe and pleasant. It should be used twice a day, ideally. It is a light feeling oil and won't leave you feeling greasy. It can also be used on fingernails and toenails that have fungus, thought treatment needs to be very consistent - twice a day for several months.

Colloidal Silver

If you invest in a colloidal silver generator, you will have the ability to make gallons of a wonderful medicine. In addition to its anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties, it also has anti-fungal properties. It can be sprayed on the skin, dropped in the ears, gargled, taken internally, used to irrigate the nasal passages, and used in a nebulizer to get it to the lungs.

Garlic

Garlic is a very powerful anti-fungal. It can be used liberally in the diet or can be used topically. Be careful as straight garlic can burn the skin! A garlic bath can be taken for fungus as well. Chop up all the cloves in one bulb of garlic and add that to a 30 minute bath.

Borax

Borax is a super cheap anti-fungal and easy to take. For men the dose is 1/4 teaspoon of borax in a liter of water consumed 4 days a week. For women the dose is 1/8 teaspoon of borax in a liter of water consumed 4 days a week. This treatment can take some time to show results but is effective and simple. Borax can also be used in a bath. Add 1/2 cup of borax to a tub of warm water and soak for 20 minutes several times a week.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple Cider Vinegar can be used internally or externally for fungal problems. To use it externally, mix equal parts of vinegar and water in a spray bottle and spray the affected areas twice a day. If you are dealing with sensitive skin areas, use only 2 Tablespoons of vinegar per cup of water.
Apple Cider Vinegar can also be used internally to help alkalize the body. 1 Tablespoon can be taken in a tall glass of water once or twice a day.

Dietary Changes

There are several dietary changes that are important to make if you have a serious fungal infection internally and/or externally. Because fungus feeds on sugar, it is important to avoid sugars and refined carbohydrates. Fruits, because they contain sugar, also should be limited. Adding extra virgin coconut oil to the diet is important because of its wonderful anti-fungal properties. Milk kefir is also helpful to improve the amount of good bacteria in the gut, which will help fight the fungus from the inside out. Liberal consumption of garlic is also a great idea. It will support your immune system, and the sulfur and other compounds in the garlic (including ajoene) have powerful anti-fungal properties.
