Crohn's Disease Remedies

What Is Crohn's Disease?

Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease that can affect any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract (from mouth to anus), though typically affecting the end of the small intestine to the beginning of the colon, causing inflammation and irritation where it is found. The inflammation occurs deep within the lining of the organ, and though symptoms of crohn's disease can vary depending on where it erupts in the GI tract, it often results in abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, and weight loss as well as discomfort outside the GI tract with further general health symptoms such as arthritis, fatigue, and rashes.

The swelling is caused by the body's own immune system attacking the GI tract; and while the exact cause of Crohn's disease is unknown, some factors include genetics and smoking. While once considered an autoimmune disease, a more recent idea suggests immunodeficiency as the cause.1
