What Is a Safe Dosage of Iodine for an Adult?

Posted By Jac (East, U.s.) on 03/13/2011

Hello and greetings to Ted;
Can you please tell me what is a safe dosage for an adult of Lugol's with a concentration of 3600 mg/per oz? I estimate this equals 600 mg per vertical drop, and would administer one drop per gallon of H20.

Also, what percentage would you consider this?

I LOVE Earth Clinic!!! Thank you for your wonderful work!

Dr.Bernstein was just talking about safe dosages on his website in response to the japense crisis. He also talks about it in his book. His recommendation is 2 drops of lugol's and of course iodoral is the equivalent to lugol's but in pill form so I understand it... I have been taking it off and on for years and am comfortable taking 4 drops myself, but I'm pretty healthy, eat well, no crap, etc. But have been nursing and pregnant for the last 9 years so I can sure use it ;-)

I wonder too, but I live in the Pacific NW and in a small city wedged between Portland and Tualatin that you have to have a serious reason to get a city permit to cut down a tree. We have a tree ordinance that is tightly held. I live in Shadesville 360 days a year. I take Kelp (not often enough) but the Japanese eat Kelp (seaweed) and have very strong thyroids. I have heard that Hiroshima had far more survivors as a result of seaweed in their daily diet. Somehow it seems that large doses would not hurt one.

Whoa, there are different levels of concentration of iodine and potassium iodide in lugol's formulations. 2 drops of 5%/10% respectively isn't the same as 2%/4%. 5% Iodine and 10% potassium iodide solution has a 1 drop amount of 6.25 mg of the two. So 2 drops would be Brownstein's 12.5mg per day.

My question is, is it a good idea to work up to that daily amount? Is that different from eating all your iodine from seaweed/natural sourcing vs synthetic supplements? Global Healing has a nascent iodine supplement with ~2mg per 3 drops.
