Vitamin C and Iodine Protocol

Posted By Helene ( Essex, England) on 07/21/2015

Hi there,

Can anyone help me? I am interested in the cures of Iodine for hypothyroidism and am collecting my companion nutrients.

Someone posted that one of the companion nutrient should be 3,000---10,000 mg's of Vit C. In England, shops sell Vit C in up to 1,000 mg's and this is classed as high strength...???

Did I misunderstand?

Many thanks.

Dear Helene,

The usual recommended dosages for Vitamin C are a bare minimum, the amount needed to keep away scurvy. Some can tolerate many grams of Vitamin C a day with no problem and even need that much.

If you take too much Vitamin C, you will get loose stools, so you can cut back. Take a little less. If you are sick, you will likely need more Vitamin C.

So, 1,000 mg sounds like a lot, and may be called extra strength, but I can easily take 5,000 mg a day with no problems.

There are basically two forms of "recommended" amounts in the use of Nutritional Supplements --"Daily Recommended" (a minimal amount to sustain health) and "Therapeutic" (A maximum amount to treat disease).

If you are new to a certain nutrient like Vit-C, start w/ the minimum and slowly work your way up to maximum doses until you have side effects or disease regression. Like MTM suggests, everyone is different and so the dose varies.
