Iodine Dosage for a Dog?

How much iodine would you use in a dogs water bowl? We carry iodine when we travel and put it in our drinking water at restaurants. I also make wipes of hydrogen peroxide to wipe silverware and glasses in restaurants along with our hands after using public restrooms.

Lugol's Iodine for Dogs:: We tried one drop of Lugol's in our 11 year dog's water bowl a few days ago... It appeared to severely agitate him -- he asked to go out every 3 hours (even though he didn't need to go to the bathroom) and stayed up all night, pacing. He also got a bumpy rash on his head. This continued for about 24 hours. He wasn't feeling well a few days before we tried the Lugol's, so these symptoms may not have had anything to do with the iodine. We suggest you be very careful when giving this to a dog! Please let us know if you've had better results.

There was just a big explosion at a power plant within 100 miles of my home. I took some Lugols but wonder about my dog? Also, what about Potassium Iodide for my dog? Thanks.

Szuki: After a brief personal investigation, I believe that the plant suffered a natural gas explosion. I'm not sure if this was part of a nuclear plant or not. At this point I do not think so. Also, the winds have been blowing towards the southeast all day in CT, so Saugerties wouldn't be in the path of any toxic cloud (NOT that I think there is one).

I'm closer to the plant than you, and I'm not worrying, but don't take my word for this. I always encourage research and investigation.

Dear Szuki:

So good to see you care enough about your dog to go to this extent. I take Lugols Solution at 10 drops per day. to prevent breast cancer and pain in breast.

since I had it in the house I decided to give it to my little minature pinchers.

My naturopath recently returned from an immunology conference where he learned that we are all very deficient in this amazing nutrient. Since our soil is depleted our food is.The dosage he learned is one drop every three days for a newborn.

My dogs are 10 pounds so that would be safe for them.

I just put the drop directly on their raw meat. They do not even notice it. An excellent resource which wil make you feel safer giving your dog lugols solution is the Encyclopedia of Natural Pet Care by CJ Poutin. Although it does not mention iodine in the form of Lugols it does mention it.
