Hydrogen Peroxide Inhalation Method Caused Tongue to Turn Yellow

Posted By John (Raleigh, Nc) on 03/27/2012

My tongue has turned yellow from this method and its a bit disturbing. I have tried everything and it still remains. If the h2o2 is discontinued, will the tongue go back to its normal shade?

Hi John,

I used to rinse my mouth with a 3% solution of HP and my tongue went black! (black hairy tongue syndrome)

I continued to rinse with it and it went away after a few days. I believe it's something to do with killing the bacteria. Yellow tongue? Not sure about that but maybe similar.

I bought fifteen litres of 50% HP a couple of years ago (oxy bleach for laundry/food grade) and dilute same to 6% (for cleaning) and then further down to 3% for oral use incl. teeth brushing.

I used to inhale it (just less than 3%) when my chest got tight (from smoking) and it generally relieved the tightness.

I cannot remember why I stopped but I'm back into it now as I have to have surgery shortly and I believe it will help with the anesthesia as I still smoke.

If your HP burns, then dilute it further. Some recommend not to go over 1% for oral applications but I can tolerate 3% - everybody is different I guess.

I have heard it's safe to drink at 1 cap @ 3% (10mm?) per one litre of water in a bottle (Ted from Thailand) although I've never done it myself.

Good luck and good health.
