Does Apple Cider Vinegar Contain Mold?

Posted By Anna (Boston, Ma) on 08/20/2010

Ted, my question is about ACV and whether or not it contains mold, gets moldy etc. I buy the smaller bottles of ACV so I can consume it quicker. Has anything been posted on this before? Thanks, Anna

Hi Anna from Boston, I initially took the ACV and baking soda for quite awhile without any problems, and in fact it was really helping to improve my health. Then (after a year or two?) I started having bad reactions to it. I stopped using it for that reason, and sadly my health suffered for it. A couple of years later I read that the ACV can get moldy and I think that's what the problem was for me. I'd been drinking some (from a large gallon container that I'd had for a while) that I think had become moldy. Happily, I re-started using the ACV and soda recently from a brand new bottle--no problems and health is getting better again :) Unfortunate that I had to go without it though for all that time because I didn't realize it needed to be refrigerated (especially if you're using from a large gallon bottle). Just glad I'm back on it now.

So what I'm doing now that I didn't do before. Refrigerate the apple cider vinegar after opening. Also didn't realize it needs to be shaken. So I always shake it up before using it. Hope this helps.
