Will My Dog's Hematoma Heal Without Treatment?

Posted By Gumi (Santa Rosa, California ) on 09/17/2015

Hi

My wolf dog got puffy ear. I've been thinking on and off to take to the vet..

I tried Arnica oil for a week now.I don't think it works..

I watched Youtube Dr.Pawsitive? I agree with him but my dogs ear is getting bigger...

It has been a week now...He is eating fine no temperature.I know it is pain.

Is it OK to leave Hematoma alone??

Thank you!

Wondering what you wound up doing? My dog was playing with another dog 8 days ago and apparently hurt her ear. It's an aural hematoma. We ran her to the ER vet, who wanted to drain it but said it was too painful for her. We were sent home with Prednisone 10mg daily. We did it for 6 days before deciding to start tapering the steroids because of the side effects. I think the hematoma was going down but wasn't fully resolved. We are tapering at half a dose for another few days. Trying to get in with a holistic vet. I don't think she's in pain but I don't think it's comfortable, either. I have read that cold laser therapy, arnica oil, Traumeel cream and 1-4 weeks of Prednisone can all help. But steroids are tough. Leaving it alone allegedly clears it up in 10 days to 6 weeks. It's amazing how many vets want to drain or perform surgery. I wouldn't.
