Will Kelp Help Fur Loss in My Dog?Posted By Louise (South Carolina, Usa) on 12/26/2015
I am also giving her 300 mg. of fish oil a day along with one probiotic. Her hair is coming back, and she is looking better, especially since I started giving her the fish oil, but if the kelp is beneficial I will give that to her also. I do not want to take her to the vet and they will expect me to put out a lot of money for this and that, and we don't have the money for their drugs, and probably multiple visits too. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I will wait for feedback before I start her on the kelp. Thank you!!!!

Hello Louise,
Kelp may or may not help with your dog's hair loss - it would depend on why she is loosing hair. Have you a veterinary opinion on why she is loosing her hair?
I have found kelp to be beneficial in treating for protazoa infections; other I know believe kelp to help with skin pigment issues. Kelp may have vitamins and nutrients that your dog's diet may be lacking and so very well may help if diet is deficient.
A first question is: what diet are you feeding your dog? Many super market diets or inexpensive brands are corn or grain based: grain based diets have been linked to skin issues in dogs. So a first step for you would be to read the ingredient panel on your brand of dog food and if corn or grains are in the first 5 ingredients you may find it very helpful to change to a meat based/grain free diet. Some find a switch of this nature can greatly clear up skin issues in 6 weeks or so.
