How to Treat a White Hard Cyst on Cat's Gums?

Posted By Carol (Ohio) on 10/25/2021

Princess, my 14 year old cat had a hard white cyst on the front of her gums in front of the large upper canine. The tooth was infected and the vet removed the tooth and clean her teeth. She came through it great. When she came home I noticed the cyst wasn't removed along with the infected tooth and had enlarged to quite a degree. I found Earth Clinic and started reading about cysts and the methods many had used to get rid of them, although I didn’t see any that addressed the particular cyst I had with Princess.

I began applying Turmeric and castor oil with a small amount of DMSO on the cyst hoping to reduce the size and in three days it has diminished just enough to be noticeable. I also noticed the bottom of the cyst has now developed a small red colored spot.

I’m also giving very small amounts of Turmeric to her twice a day. She only weighs 7 lbs.

I’ve been reading up on cysts that formed because of infected teeth and many articles suggested they formed because of some kind of embedded debris from the infected tooth and the best way to treat them was removal and I can see how that would be the case. I called the vet and she said they do sometimes disappear on their own but if they get worse it’s best to remove them but I’m really hoping I can come up with a solution on my own. I really can’t afford another 250 dollar vet bill.

My question is this. Should I continue to treat for infection and size with what I’m doing or could I also be treating for drainage of the cyst which the spot seems to indicate it might want to do.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
