Dog Odor

My dog smells. 2 year old akita & maybe shepherd. We bathe her change, her bedding, have checked the backyard for something she is possibly rolling in, but nothing. Someone said she may have a yeast infection, or not eating quality food. Please help, she's stinking up my house.

Hi Melynda,

When I rescued one of our dogs a couple of years ago (he'd been abandoned), he too smelled terrible. Bathing him did little to help. In less than one week at our house, giving him a quality dog food (holistic, lamb and rice formula) as well as walking him 2-3 miles a day, we got rid of the smell. He did have worm issues and an ear infection we later discovered at the vet, but this didn't have much to do with his smell. I believe whoever had him before us most have fed him very bad dog food as well as mistreating him.

We have 3 female Labradors - when they are all shedding at once, or when they're wet, the doggy smell can be quite strong. Recently began giving each dog a heaping tablespoon of coconut oil daily - the dogs are virtually odorless now. Also began swabbing inside ear of the oldest dog, who has had chronic smelly ear infections for years - seems to have cleared this up as well. And their coats all look amazingly shiny!
