Should I Use Turmeric for Internal Tumors and Cough in Older Dog?

Posted By Janet (Las Vegas, Nevada ) on 10/10/2016

Took my dog to the vet Saturday and got xrayed. Has about 5 internal tumors and vet thinks we should put him to sleep but he doesn't act like he's in any kind of pain, still eats well and acts like usual self but does also have a bad dry cough that has been going on for months. He's about 15 yrs old. Was wondering if the turmeric would be okay to use on internal tumors and what could help his cough. I'm really desperate, any help would be really appreciated.

The wonderful Theresa from Minneapolis, MN has been helping pet owners and their beloved pets around the world on Earth Clinic since 2013.

About Theresa

Theresa from Minneapolis was born and raised in the inner city, always wishing she had been raised on a farm.

Her love for creatures great and small began at an early age, starting with caterpillars - which continues to this day, along with an interest in all insects and 'creepy crawlies'.

Theresa's interest in pet health started with a bird keeping hobby at age 14, where she learned from another hobbyist that the simple addition of Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) in a bird's drinking water kept fungal infections away; she was able to share this with her avian vet who in turn prescribed it to her own clients; Theresa was surprised to learn that she could teach her vet a thing or two. This important lesson - that each of us can be a teacher - was a turning point for Theresa, and  fueled  her quest for the knowledge held in lore,  and remedies passed by word of mouth. That quest for knowledge continues to this day, as new and old remedies alike are explored. She may not have experience with a particular issue, but she will research it to the best of her ability and share what she finds freely, in the hopes that you can heal or improve your pet's health.

Hey Janet,

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by trying the turmeric so why not give it a go? And what did your vet say about the cough that has been going on for months now? Coughs can be associated with heart worm infection and also congestive heart failure. You might want to have the cough checked out a bit more thoroughly to find out the nature of the cough, and what you can do on your end to better support your boy.

Yes, start mixing 1 teaspoon of organic turmeric into your dog's food each time you feed him. You can get it in bulk at Whole Foods, or an Indian Grocers (Indian - from India) which would be cheaper. Note that it'll take some time before you notice any differences, plus you'd probably want to get another xray in a month or so to confirm.
