Rescue Cat with Continued Breathing Problems

Hello, We rescued our cat named Simon in January and when we received him he had a respiratory cold of some sort. We think he is 2.5 years old. The rescue organization gave us Clavamox for him to take and he did fairly well. We asked for more from them when he wasn't getting better and they said he'd already been on some. I wanted to give him healing time then. He was still wheezing and scratching a lot. I then found a liquid from a vet online for respiratory and started giving him some of that as well as some pro biotics and saw improvement. To be sure, we took him to a vet and they did an exam and said only problem is his ears. Turns out there was a ton of earwax and/or dirt buildup in his ear probably causing the infection. We did some ear washes and it seemed to get puffy. I then saw on here to try ACV so we gave him some doses once each day most days this week. We did one amount into his ear. He has been better, but still wheezing sometimes and stinky breath. Makes me think there might still be some infection going on. Can you please recommend a better course of action for health?? Sincerely grateful.
