Need remedy for scaly irritation on cats outer ear

Posted By Heather (Asheville, Nc) on 04/24/2015

I'm looking for a remedy for a scaly skin irritation on my cat's outer ear. There is no discharge or odor, only flaky, whitish yellow scales that make her scratch her ear to the point of redness and some bloody scabs. When I had her in to the vet a year ago for treating cancer, it had just begun and the vet said it wasn't ear mites, but a more in-depth screening wasn't prioritized at the time. I've cleaned it with olive oil over the past year but it's worse, and now I'm going to try apple cider vinegar 1:1 water for now. Any thoughts or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Thank you, Heather

Hi. Did u ever find out what was wrong with your cat's ear? It sounds like the same problem my cat has and I would prefer to treat it myself if possible. Ten days ago I soaked the ear and all the nastiness wiped off pretty easily, but it's back now. He shakes his head and scratches all day. If you found help, please let me know. Thank you
