Hi, My shih tzu is 11 yrs old and just came back from the vet after staying there for 4 days for drip. Today is his first day back home I tried feeding him so many things this morning when he doesn't want the food he normally likes. So I am trying everything from giving him banana, mango, meat with rice and KD. I just make some food using this recipe I found he doesn't like the smell but when I put it in his mouth he seem to like it. Maybe you can give it a go as well.... the most important thing is he have to eat not that healthy better than nothing in the stomach which will make it worse.
The Recipe
This recipe lasts us about 9-10 days when mixed with K/D. Amounts for the 3-week recipe are shown in parentheses:
-3 C (3 lbs. ) uncooked barley or white rice (not brown rice; higher in Phosphorous)
-3 envelopes (5 envelopes) low-sodium bouillon
-7 lbs. (12 lbs. ) ground chuck (not round or sirloin; chuck is lowest phosphorous)
-4 lbs. (7 lbs. ) frozen vegetables: peas, broccoli, string beans, carrots (but not more than 2 lbs. peas)
*Preheat oven to 325.
*Boil 7C (14 C) water. Add bouillon and barley or white rice. Simmer 35-40 minutes for barley; 20 for rice.
*Spread ground beef in cake pans. Cook in oven about 25 minutes until red disappears, stirring after 15 minutes.
*Cook vegetables (either microwave or boil).
*Grind all together in food processor.
Freeze 1/2 (five-day shelf life in refrigerator).
To serve:
1C K/D mixed with hot water and 1. 5C cooked food.
Microwave for 1 minute; mix thoroughly.
I don't think this recipe will be for long so I am looking for other recipe that will help him eat. I also put some apple cider vinegar in his drinks hopefully it will help.
I have come to a conclusion if he is going to leave me I will make sure he leave happy than not eating stuff that is good for him, he is not happy and leave. Of course I hope he will stay for a long time not suffering.

My dog, 17 yr old Corgi mix with stage 2 renal failure will only eat Royal Canine Renal LAMB wet food. He was totally turned off by K/D and refused to eat until I found this.
The other life saver is a homemade beef broth and chicken feet (gross, I know) for when he needs nutrition but can't handle eating. Feed the broth warm.
Good luck.
