My german shepherd mix has a heart murmur

I have a 60 lb 11 1/2 year old German Sherpard mix that was just diagnosed with a heart murmur. This came as a surprise because she doesn't exhibit any syptoms other then heavy breathing with heavy activity which was normal for her since I've had her. She doesn't have any breathing problems when she is just walking around the house or sleeping. She doesn't have a cough. We haven't done the x-rays yet, but we have eliminated any external problems such as high blood pressure, heart worms and infection. She isn't on any medications except for a minor ear infection and Benadryl for allergies (which caused the ear infections).

I am hoping that I can find something that can show improvement before we go back for x-rays after the holidays. I'm also assuming that since the Vet recommended to come back after the holidays that while serious and needs treatment that it isn't life threatening at the moment. He did mention that she may have been born with it. For her breed she as never been overly active. Interactive yes and she will play with other dogs on occasions. She also likes to go outside and sniff around, but never one to run around and chase balls. She always eats and drinks well. What suppliments are recommened for treatment?
