Male 1 pound puppy suffering with mange

We have a male 1lb chihuahua puppy. We bought him when he was 8 weeks old and he seemed fine then, but, when he turned 4 months old he started to loose his hair on his head and spots on his back. We took him to the vet who first diagnosed him incorrectly and it cost us over 200.00. Then we went back two weeks later and the vet diagnosed him with Demodectic Mange or red mange.

The vet started him on Ivomec but the first dose caused our puppy to have convulsions. So we stopped immediately. The vet was not impressed and after another 100.00 he put him on intercepter. I was concerned since my 3 year old male chi who weights 4lbs uses this once per month for heart worm prevenative and we were instructed to give the 1lb puppy 1/2 tablet everday for 2 months. I was very scared to do this so we went to the internet for other treatments. The puppy now is bald all over and looks cute but awful. I have to say we do have him on an antibiotic for the infection no more smells. It helps but does not kill the mites. He is still playful and eats and drinks well. I just want to know is this peroxide/borax solution safe to put on a 1lb puppy with no hair? He has no open wounds. We put veg oil after his baths everynight (his bath contains tree oil, and neem oil it is an all natural shampoo) which helps with him with the dryness on his skin. I have noticed new hair growth but also red spots returning. We love him so much and dont' want to lose him. Please help.

I have been using Ted's mange treatments along with oral Ivemec. I seem to have a very tough case with my German Sheppard female but things are getting better. She had many bald spots from scratching or just hot spots some may have even been bacterial & yeast infections. Just last week I put straight DMSO liquid on one gray/scaly on her back elbow/knee area that had no hair for months. In two days I could see the hair growing back, now a week later I can hardly see the bald spots. I have put it on several spots now, back of her ears and others around her hind legs. You need to do test area and use distilled water to dilute the DMSO (my bottle says its 90%). I have had no burning or major reaction where I have tested it on me first. Warning, when I decided to treat all her spots and used a lot on several spots on her body she stank really bad for 1-2 days. Garlic smell comes from chemical reaction. But the hair grows back so fast. I am will continue to use this a couple times a week with the on going red mange/mite problem.
