You may be dealing with a kidney issue. Appetite problems usually accompany kidney disease. Both of my dogs had bouts with it. It gets very tricky as dogs age. How are the teeth? Periodontal disease generally infect the kidneys as well. In fact, periodontal disease is generally the cause of many issues. The vets get scared to give older dogs anesthesia to clean teeth and then the dogs develop it unless there is advanced efforts to keep the teeth clean. Once the vets won't clean the teeth, it starts a decline in health because of the teeth. Most vets won't admit it, but that is very common. I am not trying to scare you, but I have seen this three times with my dogs.
