Our Chihuahua has had pancreatitis for many years after having a bad attack after eating turkey skin. She had to have IV fluids and pain meds. This is what I have learned. She hated the prescription diet, so knowing she needed a low fat diet I cooked her food. I used turkey in the frozen rolls, cooked several pounds in a skillet, chopped up. When brown I rinsed the meat in a collander to get all the fat out. Then I put it back in the skillet and added a handful of plain dry oatmeal and water. Then added a handful of veggies--either green beans or green peas frozen. Cook a few minutes then dish it into freezer containers and freeze. When I would feed her I would crush a papaya tablet from the health food store with a fork and mix it in her food. I like Now brand. Feed 2 small meals per day. Small frquent meals are better. She did great on this for several years. Give no people food and no treats. You have to be very strict.

After my mother- in-law came to live with us and slipped the dog food, she kept having attacks. My son who is an MD said to add pancreatic enzymes to her food. We found these at the health food store in the digestion area. These are currently helping. Our chihuahua is 12 now but frail.

Good luck if your dog has pancreatitis--it is difficult.
