Need Urgent Help for Cat With Advanced Lymphoma

Posted By Anna (London, Uk) on 12/23/2015

Hi, Can anyone help?

My 11-14 yr old female cat has been diagnosed with lymphoma (I don't know which kind) after a liver biopsy confirmed it on 11 Dec. It all started first week of Oct when she stopped eating and it was thought to be a bad tooth but a blood test taken just before her tooth extraction surgery under GA came up with extremely elevated liver enzymes of 547. Further blood tests revealed a wbc of 40,000 and presence of abnormal lymphoblast cells. An ultrasound scan revealed fluid build up around a kidney and spleen. All of this was a strong indication of lymphoma. Chemo was ruled out due to her weak condition so she was put on Prednisolone from 23rd Oct. Her liver was getting large and swollen around this time and she became jaundiced. Her weight dropped to 3.8kg from 4.3kg.

I started her on a lot of supplements and herbs including turmeric, fish and krill oil, dandelion root extract, IP-6 & Inositol enzyme support capsules, milk thistle, colloidol silver, vitamin c with a small amount of honey, cottage cheese & flaxseed oil (Budwig protocol) in an attempt to deliver oxygen to her blood, CBD/THC oil and also Essiac tea started from 20th Dec.

So far, I am not seeing any improvement in her condition after 2 months. In fact, she is deteriorating day by day. She has had virtually no appetite since the first week of October and apart from the odd days where she has perked up a little and eaten a bit of her own accord, I have had to syringe feed her 3-4 times a day with help of my mum. Each time she goes for a check up with the vet, her liver feels more and more swollen and she keeps on losing more and more weight despite being syringe fed a decent amount of food a day.

Can anyone here please advice me what I'm doing wrong or point me in a better direction?

A vet visit yesterday revealed that she has gotten much weaker and quieter, she has lost much of the use of her legs, she pees outside of the litter box now and her weight has dropped from 3.8kg on 8 Dec to 3.62kg now. She lies with her head down most of the day.

Why has nothing worked? Has anyone else experienced this situation? I am giving her 1.5ml of Essiac tea twice a day.

Thanks in advance for advice, Anna

Dear Anna,

I hope this helps. I had a cat who stopped eating and drinking. And took him to the vet but his condition didn't improve. This is when I searched the net and dicovered earthclinic.com I found out that propolis is very beneficial to maintain a good immune system. I have used one drop in half a glass of warm water for my cat and seen improvement in his health.

I also syringe feed him at least 10 times a day. You can start by giving your cat 6ml of home prepared baby food or meat juice. This will definitely bring back her appetite. You can also put a little bit of Mentholatum (the one from Scotland) on her throat to alleviate any inflammation.

I really hope your cat gets better. Don't lose hope and be patient. My cat had started to eat and drink after one month. Take care and Merry Christmas.
