Brought home from shelter cat with diarrhea

Posted By Oldriska (Prague, Czech Republic) on 10/05/2012

Hi there, Three days ago I brought home a tom cat from a cat shelter. He's very vital at 4 years and overall looks very healthy, however, from day one he's had diarrhea although I feed him quality canned food and dry food for sterile cats. I suspect he had already had diarrhea in the cat-shelter because his bum was not clean then when I visited the shelter a few weeks back. He's fully vaccinated and I don't expect him to have intestinal parasites because he would get tablets for that while in the shelter. Could someone please suggest how I can help my cat, should I feed him lean meat with rice or should I get some diet cat food? Many thanks, Oldriska

Hi, Oldriska! How is your cat doing now? I am not sure if you can find it over in your country, but you might want to try a Kaolin-Pectin product made just for pets. Please make sure it does NOT have bismuth or asprin products in it, as those are deadly to cats! You might try a farmers supply store if you can find one. It is also used for farm animals. Good luck to you and I hope your cat gets better! Teresa from Iowa, USA
