My husband used to take Pepto often. It does cause the stool to become black. It can also cause the tongue to become black. It is a short term side effect. Hope that will reassure you!

Hi Priscilla...I think you took too much Pepto-Bismol, which is well know for turning stools black because of the action of the bismuth in this drug. The black stools should go away in a few days.
