What Else Can I Try for My C-Difficile?

Posted By Pam (Chesterfield, Mo.) on 06/21/2015

I have had C-diff for over two months now, caused by a hospital-prescribed antibiotic. I have taken Vancomycin for two weeks, off one week, and am now pulse-dosing the Vanco for one week on, one week off, etc. I am also taking S.Boulardi and a very good probiotic by metagenics.

I have read recommendations on this site for barley water, and I tried it, but it doesn't seem to be helping. I have also tried slippery elm with no luck.

I still have the diarrhea and the unusual neon yellow color in my stools. I am having cramping and pain in my abdomen on and off. I am getting desperate to be rid of this. I have lost 10 lbs. in one month and am down to 107 lbs. I am desparate for help. I have to wait six weeks to see another GI specialist who is an expert in fecal transplants.

Does anyone have another recommendations which actually worked for them. I have heard that bentonite clay or activated charcoal, but those always make my gut hurt. I am grateful for any ideas.

Thanks.

Hi Pam, if you can not take the charcoal, I have read that in developing countries Zinc has often been the answer for life threatening diarrhea, perhaps it would prove useful for c. diff.

Plenty of Kefir and probiotics. My (95yrs) grandma developed c-diff after a strong course of antibiotics. After 2nd recurrence we gave her probiotics three times a day, two hours after antibiotics. Diet is very important, Check out diet for cdiff and consult a nutritionist. She is doing remarkable well and the doctors can't believe her quick recovery. It is important to restore good bacteria in your gut and check out how to repair it with slippery elm and l-gutamine. Cut out process food and drink barley water or make barley soup and reduce your sugar intake. Take D3 drops - it's an important vitamin for c-diff treatment. All the best.
