What could be causing phlegm condition

Posted By Adamblue (Philadelphia, Pa, Usa) on 01/10/2011

Hi, so my situation is different than what I've read on here thus far. My ENT claims I do have acid reflux, but with zero heartburn, zero coughing, and no results from Prilosec and Zantac, I'm beginning to thing that the phlegm in the back of my throat, at all times, is something other than acid reflux. I could be wrong though, and I was wondering if anyone else experienced this situation? The phlegm is a constant nuisance - I have to clear my throat all the time, and it makes it very difficult for me to speak strongly at times. My voice becomes squeaky and cracks quite often. Does anyone have any advice for me? Any tip would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Adamblue, I used to have this all the time and took over the counter nasal sprays to relieve it. Now I eat as little dairy as possible, especially cheese and it lessons. Some people say it is caused by wheat and dairy. Hard to give up both but it is possible. Cheers Lily.

To Rai, from Dallas, Tx. , and Lily from BrisbaneQueensland, Aus. regarding phelgm.

About two months ago I had a problem of phelgm in the back of my throat, I felt the need to cough all the time to get it up. This lasted for over a month and a half, I had a bottle of the herb nettle ( capsules) in my cabinet and decided to try it. I took 3 the first day and two the second. I was really surprised by the morning of the next day the problem was gone.

This is just a post to Lily from Brisbane Queensland Australia and others from that area that is flooding, I pray that you and your family and friends are all safe and sound. May God bless you all and give you the strength to get through this awful disaster. Gods love to all.

Thank you Shiloh for you kind thoughts, everybody here in Brisbane and Queensland in general are keeping their spirits up and getting on with the job of cleaning up the sludge and debris that the flood has left behind. A lot of people unaffected by flood water still have lost their electricity for safety reasons so you can imagine the state of the food in the fridge. Supplies are coming in regulary and on behalf of all I would like to thank everybody who has given their support. Lots of love Lily.

Sure sounds like allergies to me. Maybe something you are eating, probably gluten or dairy, but it could be something else. An elimination diet would be a good, but miserable way to figure it out!! My daughter had a lot of phelgm until she gave up gluten. Don't rule out airborne allergies, though, I know that they can cause post nasal drip. Some people are allergic to mold in the winter that can cause a host of symptoms. It's kind of hard to treat until you find the source of the problem. Good luck to you.
