Raelene, Bless you. Some of us get a big dose of anger free with our change of life. One of the under appreciated keys to avoiding it is making sure you are only eating food that agrees with you and that you "eliminate" daily. When I was going through menopause, I was fortunate enough to be able to afford a visit to a practitioner of functional medicine. He gave me some rather expensive tests and put me on a daily regimen of 3 types of botanic hormone replacement drops. The drops ran around $80 a month 6 years ago and I was able to stop them after a year. If you call to inquire about pricing and can afford this, by all means, do it! HOWEVER, the doctor also had me stop eating sugar, soy, gluten, and cow dairy that very day. I also had to all but give up my occasional glass of red wine, along with chocolate, and coffee. He recommended I take magnesium but instead, I took epsom salt soaking baths every few days. The effect was immediate, and I found that if I slipped up on the dietary part, the hormones seemed to prevent the rest. I realized that I had always been a little bit affected by those foods. The reason I am telling you this is that I have often wondered if I could have made it through with just the dietary changes. This is a wonderful place to come for help, and I am sure you will get good suggestions for natural hormones here, but cleaning up my diet gave me health and energy that, with God's help, will carry me through the rest of my life and I wish the same for you.

Dear Raelene,

In addition to all of Iowama's great information, I would like to add the following ideas.

  • Motherwort is a great herb to use in menopause. It really helps that feeling that "everything is setting you off." It also helps a lot with hot flashes and racing heart. You can get a tincture and take a dropperful in some water a couple of times a day, and even again during the day if you are feeling edgy.
  • Do make sure you are getting excellent nutrition.
  • Magnesium (as Iowama mentions) is also helpful to relax the body.
  • Vitamin C is helpful for your adrenal system, which may be overtaxed.

Let us know how it goes for you.

Hi Raelene,

800 IU of Vitamin E, and a prayer did the job for me.
