Sudden onset of knee and lower leg pain

I have DDD and have it mostly controlled now with boswellia and stopain roll on. But recently I started having extreme knee pain that radiates down my lower legs and feet. Its getting so bad that I can hardly walk or sleep! I have increased my vitamin C to 7 grams, take melatonin, acv, B complex, magnesium glycinate, zinc, black strap molasses, CS, NAC. I'm 68 years old. I've researched on here what to do, but can't find anything different than what I am already doing. I've tried daily vibration therapy for about a year. I have red light therapy that I'm using (but it's not helping). I need relief without turning to prednisone. Any ideas?

Hollyhock,

These are others you might consider :

https://www.earthclinic.com/remedies/borax.html

And Berberine as discussed in the following :

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6414164/

Here is a relevant study quote :

' The results showed that BBR attenuated the upregulation of ECM-catabolic factors [matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-3, MMP-13, a disintegrin and metalloproteinase with thrombospondin motif (ADAMTS)-4 and ADAMTS-5], and the downregulation of ECM-anabolic factors (type II collagen and aggrecan) following stimulation of the human NP cells with IL-1β. Treatment with BBR also protected human NP cells from IL-1β-induced apoptosis, as determined by western blotting and flow cytometry. Mechanistically, the IL-1β-stimulated degradation of IκBα, and the phosphorylation and translocation of nuclear factor (NF)-κB p65 were found to be attenuated by BBR, indicating that NF-κB pathway activation was suppressed by BBR in the IL-1β-treated human NP cells. The results of the experiments revealed a therapeutic potential of BBR for the prevention or treatment of IDD. '

Hi Art,

I forgot to mention I take borax daily for the past 3 years. I put 1/8 teaspoon in my bottle of water and sip throughout the day. So are you saying berberine will help this leg pain?

Hollyhock,

That leaves at least the hyaluronic acid (HA) and berberine. I have had good response to the HA and Stopain as I described in the first link in my previous reply. You said you were using the Stopain, but didn't mention the HA. For my friends who have used the combination for DDD, usually within a month or so they are able to discontinue the Stopain.

Hollyhock,

Another consideration is that you are experiencing sciatica in addition to the DDD because sciatica can produce these symptoms. Icing the sciatica nerve area three times per day for three days can help determine that possibility. If that offers some relief after 3 days, then you will know what is what.

Art, I used double strength hyaluronic acid for 4 months, it worked great for the first 3 months, but for some reason it stopped helping. That's when I switched to boswellia double strength and my back is much improved. The knee pain came out of nowhere (both knees! ), I can't come up with any reason. I guess I will keep doing what I am doing, and hope for improvement. I get much worse after sitting, and getting out of bed, so relaxing is bad for me.

Both of those actions are known to irritate the sciatic nerve as discussed here :
