Hi
My son, in his fifties, is intelligent, caring, and into keeping fit, but has had mental worries for some time, and recently the problems have worsened.
A while ago he belonged to a shooting club, and lead was discovered in his body from the equipment used, and since then this has caused him to obsessionally worry about so many other issues. For instance, asbestos in walls, lead in paint, toxic coating on cooking utensils, plastics in tea bags. He also avoids touching handles on doors, rails, etc when in public places, because of being contaminated by germs.
And he does find some social situations difficult to handle, for instance being in an overcrowded restaurant and feeling trapped and the need to escape.
These fears are controlling his life. He has tried several solutions, such as talking therapy, hypnotism, counselling, supplements, prescription drugs, and none of these have been successful. I'd be interested to learn if any contributors to Earth Clinic have any solutions to these problems.
Many thanks.

He is a perfect candidate for homeopathic treatments. Get an appointment with a practitioner she or he will figure this out. Homeopathy is excellent for mental disorders. Don’t waste your time on anything else.

Sounds like your son has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. EC has an excellent section on it, I would try to natural treatment over the Rx. Remember this disorder can be caused by a traumatic event or it can just start for no reason at all. Good luck to you, mental health issues are the toughest to treat.Replied by Jack (Amsterdam) on 04/28/2025
OCD goes without saying. Yet, sudden, no history, behavioural changes always indicate medical problems, allergies, toxic conditions, nutritional imbalances, poor diets, lack of exercise, or other treatable physical conditions. As usual everyone immediately starts looking for that magic pill or a mental health therapist.
I suggest alternativementalhealh site. https://www.alternativementalhealth.com
Seeing a Homeopath is where I’d start.
