Smoker has dry mouth and bump in mouth

Posted By Michael (Oakville, Ontario Canada) on 05/03/2014

I am a smoker and I just recently noticed I have a dry mouth and that my lips are wrinkly like all dried up instead of moist I also feel a little bump inside the bottom bridge of my mouth on my right side I felt it with my tongue also my tongue seems dry at times and kinda white and pink I think, I am kinda worried that there is something wrong with me and I am afraid to worry my friends or even my Mom who just lost her last and only brother in Pennsylvania and I don't want to worry my mom and most of all I don't want to worry myself either. Please I am really hoping that it's nothing. Please any advice and help would be appreciated thanks for your time. MICHAEL.

Dear Michael,

I am sorry you are having this stress. You are a kind man to not want to worry your mother or your friends.

I wish I knew what is happening in your mouth; perhaps another person will post with some thoughts.

I know that I had a very dry mouth and my mouth would get sores easily when my thyroid was low. I used Iodoral (an iodine supplement) for it and eventually got it under control. There are some other supplements you would want to take with the iodine, if that is the problem.

Some people take L-Lysine for mouth issues. Also, some people are sensitive to the chemicals in regular toothpaste. If that is causing trouble, switching to baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) might help.

This website has a lot of information on oil pulling, which might be something to try, as it has helped many with mouth issues.

I am wondering what your age is and if you have other health problems. Would it be possible to get this looked at by a health professional? A doctor, nurse, dentist, etc?

Please let us know how you are doing! I will be praying for you.
