Natural Remedies Needed for Shoulder Bursitis During Pregnancy

Posted By Dale (East Coast, Australia) on 04/07/2018

I've suffered from shoulder bursitis for over 2 years. In that time I've had 1 baby and another is now on the way so I can't take anti inflammatory meds or have cortisone.
I'm trying an Apple cider vinegar compress this morning and am hoping for some relief because I can barely dress, lift the kettle etc.
Can I have acupuncture during pregnancy? I'm 7 weeks along and also breast feeding my 18 month old.
Any other suggestion to help relive or cure this bursitis?
Thank you

Dear Dale,

Turmeric is considered safe in pregnancy and is a great natural anti-inflammatory. 1/2 to 1 teaspoon (or 2-4 capsules) 2-3 times a day with plenty of water to avoid constipation.

It is often taken in milk (dairy or almond.) If you try that with blackstrap molasses, the molasses may help also and it absolutely wonderful for pregnancy!

  • 6 ounces milk
  • 1/2- 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 2-3 teaspoons blackstrap molasses

Consumed warm or cold.

A tiny pinch of black pepper in it is said to make the turmeric more potent.

Magnesium oil on the shoulder may help with pain and extra magnesium is often needed in pregnancy.

While castor oil is not supposed to be taken internally or on the abdomen during pregnancy, I myself would use it on an area like a shoulder for pain relief during pregnancy.

Alternating warm and cool applications to the shoulder (not hot and cold) can be surprisingly soothing and healing.

I hope you are able to find something that brings pain relief!

Hi Dale. Please try Dmso on that. Put about 4 drops into the palm of your hand as well as a carrier oil like Jojoba, Almond or Castor. Then rub it onto your sore shoulder and the relief should be almost immediate. Do this 2-3x/day and keep going as long as you need. Please ensure your hands are clean as anything on them will enter your system too. Dmso is a solvent and enters your system so quickly that results are similar to an injection. It is one of the most healing substances on earth. Best of health to You!

Thank you for your advice. I'll be trying all those this week.

I've been wearing a sling which improves some pain but now it's stopped improving and specialist appointment is 2 weeks away.
