Natural Remedies to Help Severe Withdrawal from Celexa?

Posted By Debbie Webbie (Grand Rapids, Michigan) on 12/18/2015

Hi everyone,

I was on Celexa for a long time and weaned off it too fast three months ago.

I had constant anxiety attacks, migraines, nausea and insomnia for two months. The migraines are gone and the anxiety is a lot better. I get about four hours of sleep at night.

I have been taking L-Tryptophan, St Johns Wort, DGL, GABA, Liquid vit B, and EPA 1000 Omega 3.

My gut is so sensitive I can't take vit.C or pro-biotics..if I do there is swelling, pain and a bad back ache from them.

Any advice or encouragement would be so appreciated..I am at my wit's end my doc wants to put me on Prozac to get me past this, but I do not want to be on anymore of these types of drugs.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hello Debbie Webbie,

You mention your gut is so sensitive you can't even take probiotics. But you mention six or seven things that apparently are ok...like DGL, which would have been one of my recommendations. Consider this, although it might seem counter intuitive; A half glass of water with five DROPS of apple cider vinegar. Just sip and judge the response.

If you don't react badly, an hour later up the drops to seven or eight...continue at eight to ten drops every two hours and judge how you are impacted after ten treatments.

What I'm trying to do is get some ACV in you slowly because you might respond well to that as so many folks do who write on Earth Clinic. But in your case I'd recommend a slow test amount and even when you've worked your way up a bit to still take it slowly.

Perhaps colostrum would help heal your gut.

Debbie, I have found that magnesium chloride helps tremendously for anxiety and sleep issues, but it also boosts the immune system and many of us are very deplete in it. Other magnesium can help, but it is mag chloride that I found to work the best. I also have had serious gut issues and had to begin to use magnesium chloride in Mag Oil form. Search for Mag Oil here on EC. You can purchase Mag Oil from various health food shops, but it is easy to make it yourself. I get magnesium chloride flakes from tropical fish dealers as they are very careful with their expensive fish so it is very pure and less expensive. The formula for Mag Oil is to 1 to 1. I.e. 1/2 c. water to 1/2 c. mag chloride flakes. Put it in a small spray bottle (I use the personal size bottles found in the personal care aisles of the grocery store or pharmacy.Spray the Mag Oil on your skin. While your body is learning to absorb it it may start itching in 15-20 min. so shower it off then. As your body begins to use it properly this will diminish, or I have found it so. As my gut has begun to heal I am now able to take a pinch (1/4 t.) in water or juice at least once a day. I began taking it internally about 6 months after beginning to use the Mag Oil Spray. I still use the Mag Oil spray on my joints and over my kidneys where it really needs to be absorbed according to my natural health care provider. Over joints it is good for dissolving calcium. As I had bunion issues since I was a young child, and this has helped tremendously. I also increase the amount I take internally and externally when life's stresses increase and up it to 2-3 times a day, and make sure to take it at night about 15 minutes before going to bed as it will relax you.

Use it for now externally and you should see improvement. Improvement may happen quickly or it may take a few weeks as everyone is different and it takes time for the body to adjust to absorbing it. Another way to help absorb it is to soak your feet in a basin of hot water with an 1/8 c. of magnesium chloride in it. Feet are good receptors for absorption, but again after about 15-20 min you may have to rinse off. A friends daughter sprays it on her abdomen as she finds that is the best way for her to absorb it.

Don't forget to search here on EC for Magnesium Oil.
