Severe Depression After Trying to Quit Smoking

Posted By Katelyn (Pike County, Kentucky) on 05/14/2008

Hello everyone. I am a country girl who lives on biscuits and gravy, beans and potatoes,LOL.I smoke about half a pack a day and drink way to much cola!!! I am only 38 yrs old but am feeling 60. NO WONDER-with my diet and lifestyle. My question is this-I want to quit smoking, but get very depressed every time I try-I mean severly-to the point I just want to DIE. I have been reading all these wonderful remedies on acv-cayenne-evco,etc. I know I neesd to change my lifestyle if I am ever going to feel any better, I just don't know where to start. Can anyone give me any suggestions? I don't want to bombard my system too much too soon so please send any feedback. Thanks so much for your time.

Hi there Severely Depressed, That half pack of cigarettes per day is probably doing you less damage than your "way too many colas" are. Any colas at all are not good for your kidneys, and if they are diet drinks that makes it even worse, as aspartame is also known for causing depression. Start eating to give your body what it needs to function and your depression will probably clear up. The beans, potatoes, biscuit & gravy doesn't sound too bad, if they are cooked from scratch. You might also throw in a magnesium supplement since most of us are deficient in this mineral and it is an important one. Until you are feeling much better, I also suggest a good multivitamin mineral supplement once a day, and a good Stress Tab (B complex with Vitamins C & E) at meal time and bedtime. You can slow down to less per day after you have found your way out of depression. Also if you happen to be on an antidepressant drug, it is likely to be full of fluoride which is not good news.

Hi, may be you need vitamin b3 niacin or nicotinamide... Too strong links between niacin and tryptophan and serotonin, look at wiki.

Hi, Apparently smokers have more b3 than everyone else due to the nicotine so you are correct in advising taking b3.
